Yet another extremely fun video to film! :) Loving hearing everyoneâs favourite basslines in the comments too!
my favorite bassline is Disco Inferno - The Trammps
Itâs been great seeing you on the channel, your playing is awesome and you have a great sense of humour as well
You're a hell of a bass player and a great presence on the channel. You're killing it in Sounds Like. My favourite riffy bassline is "Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?" but I love anything funky and poppped/slapped.
Thank you both so much! :) Great bassline as well
The bassline and sound of the bass in Peter Gabriels Don't give up is one of my all time favorites.
Cici and Dave are the most wonderful addition to this channel!
I learned to play Maiden songs with three fingers in the 80's and was flabbergasted to find out that Harris only used two a few years ago. I got a lot of credit in high school for being able to play Maiden with my fingers, though.
I love these two! Such brilliant, friendly people and so great together on camera! Thanks for the great content, Anderton's.
Really natural chemistry between Lee and CiCi.
CiCi is fast becoming my favourite Andertons presenter. Sheâs always so happy to be doing it. Plus she can sure play!!
Wow, thank you so much Steve! You made my day :)
nobody never mentions dancing in the moonlight by Thin Lizzy when they're talking about great bass lines which is a shame, but ienjoyed the pure geek out that went on in the video, so much enthusiasm
n/
Personally when i think of Thin Lizzy bass lines me and my mom's favorite is Waiting for an Alibi which i love for the use of a flanger pedal (or maybe it was phaser)
@@KeeperOfPoops great choice! holy war off thunder and lightening too!
That was utterly brilliant! Two bass players just talking not about gear but cool riffs and techniques! That's what I like to see! Thanks for that, made my day.
So good to see Lee on the channel, he's such an awesome dude. He helped me out when I bought my Gretsch in the store a few years ago, and then again when I bought my bass. A true gent, and a super-friendly guy.
John Paul Jones was my first reason to want to play bass. I never could play like him. "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" was something I only ever could dream of playing.
The intro to Bombtrack and Longview which was the first time I came across chords on bass.
Lee does such a great job interacting with Cici and making her feel comfortable your the man Lee!!! Iâd love to see more of you two on here!!
Lee and Cici are the reasons why I started watching "All about the bass" again!
The dynamic and chemestry between these two bass players is one of my new favorite things out there right now. Thank you so much and BASS ON !!!
They are such different bassists which is why this is a doozie of a video. Hearing two top-notch musicians who are coming from different directions talking and playing though what interests them and inspired them is compelling viewing. Have a well-earned click!
Really dig their chemistry
I love the bass start to Radar Love which sets the track up. Every time in see Cici she reminds me of the late Burke Shellley from Budgie. (who has sadly passed away). Both with the hair, all black clothing and being tiny. They were the first big band I saw live which must have 1973 and we heard the track "Breadfan" which set the venue "on fire!"
What I like about the gallop chorus in Run to the Hills is the legato-ish, soaring vocals over the top. Really makes you feel as if you're flying along with a horse underneath you.
This is like a podcast but they make me feel like Iâm in the room I want to pick up my bass and jam with them đ€Ł cheers to both of them for making people want to play đ
Disneyland is no longer The Happiest Place on Earth. That title now belongs to Andertons Music UK.
I have followed this channel since fairly early days of Chappers & The Captain. Loved their chemistry and their videos. I'm not going to lie to you: I went through separation anxiety when new reviewers started appearing instead of Rob Chapman. But later reviewers Rabea, Nathan, Bass Lee, Danish Pete, and now Cici have turned out to be great. Such nice, fun, and extremely talented musicians are such a pleasure to listen to and learn from. It's fun popping into that faraway funhouse Andertons and hanging out for a while.
Keep 'em coming, Andertons.

Bass part that made me want to play bass, easy!
The pre Motorhead Lemme, on Orgone Accumulator from Hawkwinds 1973 Space Ritual.
I was 16 when I first heard it & it just blew my mind. That's what I wanted to play!
Still one of my favourite tracks 49yrs later & it still sends a shiver down my back.
Lord of light ? Or pretty much all of Space Ritual tbh..Lemmy displaying unique talent, before he started Motorhead & lost it..
Seven by Seven for me, from the same album.
@@MegaHairybum Another one of my favourites too.
@@MegaHairybum Seven by Seven is another stand - out ...
Good call...!
My favorite bass man Lee, CiCi is coming up to speed quickly. Your vids are upbeat and inspiering..
Thank you so much! :)
I really love this format! Cici and Lee are the such a great fit for it. It is so inspiring to watch you talk what excites you and how you tick; I absolutely love the bass and even bought one although I never got around to learning it properly due to an accoustic bass not being that useful as a standalone instrument. đ I play the guitar reasonably well, but when listening to music quite often the bass lines are getting me much more ecstatic than the guitar riffs... Keep those videos coming...
At first I thought Rabea had finally let his hair down, and started taking the diet WAY too far!
When i think of my favorite bass riffs i would go for
Thin Lizzy - Waiting For an Alibi (as played by Phil Lynott)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - The Adventures of Raindance Maggie (as played by Flea)
Iron Maiden - Wrathchild (as played by Steve Harris)
Rage Against The Machine - Calm Like a Bomb (as played by Tim Commerford)
The Cure - Just Like Heaven (as played by Simon Gallup)
Props for including Thin Lizzy and The Cure, great songs
Great choices William! RHCP is one of my favorite bands, one thing I really like about them is each member is equally talented and awesome. I don't think there are too many bands like that
Favourite bass line, Down In The Sewer by the Stranglers and many others by the pioneering legend Jean Jacques Burnel. Tramp, No More Heroes, etc. etc.
Good call. Not only great lines but that awesome tone that jumps out of the cab and hits you in the nuts!
Love how absolutely stoked Lee is on everything CiCi plays, and what a beast of a player she is!!
Why canÂŽt I thumbs up twice? One of my favourite bass line is John Paul Jones`s "what is and what should never be". Cheers from Finland! edit: oh and then Lee plays it, great!
For the past 10 years I've been the guitarist in a few bands. Me and my guitarist decided to form a new band with me on bass. And these vids along with the new sounds like have made me really love the bass!!
Some of my fav bass riffs:
Green Day - Longview
Dinosaur Jr. - In a Jar
Unwound - December
Producto - Buildings
Minutemen - Vietnam
Karate - Bass Sounds
Fugazi - Sweet and Low
And basically all of the bass interludes in NOFX's, The Decline. I can't play them, but they're awesome.
Hell yeah, I wasn't expecting any nods to Fat Mike! Yeah, the decline is fantastic, so many great riffs and bass lines. My choice for favorite bass line was the one from "Born Frustrated" by Rancid... to be fair though, its SO hard to choose a favorite when there are so many great ones lol
Always glad to see Dino love
This format is great. I don't have too many people in my life that I can just geek out about music and instruments and pedals. So it's fun to hear the banter.
Such an authentic and natural duo! For me it feels like watching good old friends jamming together and learning from each other. Really inspires me to keep on practicing my bass playing! :)
Edit: My favorite riff to play so far is Black Night from Deep Purple. So groovy!
Nice selection of riffs. Great to hear a Norman Watt-Roy CLASSIC in there. That was a (peasant) surprise. Lucky enough to have seen him play in the past. Loved the vid. Don't know how i missed it before. Thanks for yet more interesting and entertaining content. As for favourite basslines, sooo many I could mention. ON the more obscure side, I have to big up the famous so-called Glorious Ohm Riff courtesy of Gong's Mike Howlett, although I suspect Steve Hillage may have come up with it as a guitar riff. In similar vein would be Ayurvedic by Ozric Tentacles. On the Hillage side of things, the bassline to his track Unidentified Flying Being from the Nick Mason-produced album Green, is a funky space wonder. If no-one has mentioned Tony Levin then I would have to include his bassline for Peter Gabriel's Don't Give Up, and of course Sledgehammer which was done on his signature Musicman I believe. Sorry for the novel. Loves me a great bassline. Thanks again for the vid :-)
I can't play bass, but it is my favourite instrument to hear in a band. Cici and Lee compliment each other well (wonky backs and asthma aside), although I was half expecting Cici to give us her thunderous Hysteria bass riff. She has played it in other videos, it makes me very happy đ
It is another one of my favourites haha!! :)
What an awesome video, super playing, excitement in the craft and great stories.
These two are fantastic together. I just bought a bass and will be starting to learn, and I love this enthusiasm!
Brilliant stuff. Youâre still knocking my socks off. Thank you
Carina's bass sounds so beautifully!!!
Some of my favorite bass lines come from Matt Freeman (Rancid). They're very aggressive, but catchy. The bass line from "Born Frustrated" (and many other Rancid songs) is awesome :)
Love the John Paul Jones mention! First two songs I'd learned from start to finish on bass were "Good Times Bad Times" and "Black Dog". I'm a bit of a Geezer Butler nut as well, with the bassline for 'The Wizard' being my absolute favourite of his. Love the energy between Cici and Lee, makes my Saturday mornings (given I'm in New Zealand) just that little bit more enjoyable.
This girl is pure gold. She will be a star soon.
Iâm really enjoying this series of videos. Iâm not a bassist myself, just a guitarist who likes the bass and makes some noises with one from time to time. When I say guitarist I donât mean any old guitarist, Iâm a bleeding awful guitarist. Seriously, itâs all about the music and appreciation of it. Brilliant videos, thank you.
also, Cold Desert by Kings of Leon was the riff that made me buy a bass and start learning.
Amazing session by Cici and Lee ;D love cheers
Great vid actually made me go and try some new stuff ! After 45+ years playing bass and still gigging thatâs rare!
Your right about a bad back too
Great bass lines give Nice n Sleazy by The Stranglers
What a great youtube, not trying to sell me anything and good to hear the musicians that do try and sell me stuff as I can hear alot of how they sound , hope this comment is not coming over negative just really enjoyed it and I'm a 6 stringer
Really enjoyed this vid! Inspiring....
Ciciâs energy is so contagious âźïž
Iâm so happy to hear that! :)
Also a Worcestershirshire Bassist, hi Cici! I do have Asthma, Back pain and my parents wished I played guitar đ
I love "One of these days" the old Pink Floyd song. On really high volume and headphones. Gotta say these bass episodes is really inspiring to me. I was a really shitty bass player more than 25 years ago, but now I feel the need to buy a new bass guitarr :)
Y'all are so fun and enjoyable to watch. You make a great team! I like all those riffs too. One of my favorite oldies bass lines is Domino.
what a great video. Two people just talking music and their favorite players
My favorite bass line is the intro to My City Was Gone by The Pretenders. It's an excellent almost trot pace of a walking song melody.
Iâm loving this more and more !
We want more! Lots of more!
I'm a guitarist now, but I cut my teeth on bass. I'll never forget learning the entirety of Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden. Not sure I could do it now, but it was great fun.
The bass line to where's your head say by Basement Jaxx was always fun, too
You two together are just lovely. I'm not even really a bass player, just watching because of you guys haha.
Great vid, thanks guys - your genuine enthusiasm really shines throughđđ€
I really love the bass line in Drapery Falls by Opeth. Martin Mendez is a master.
A few more lines that really grab me:
Blues Brothers - She Caught the Katy
Marcus Miller - Power
David Bowie - I Would Be Your Slave
Very interesting and fun, please keep doing more like this!
Favourite bassline atm goes to 'Hey Bulldog' by The Beatles. Love it!
Great video btw! đ
Killer Joe with Ray Brown's walking bass line. It just felt good.
I'm gonna be honest. I found the Andertons channel to be a little bit boring lately. Cici and Dave bring a much needed swing of fresh air to Andertons ...just my opinion.
Same!
Your right, this brings something fresh and very engaging.
Agreed. And As much as people like to hate on Rob Chapman, his videos back in 2015 and 2016 and earlier with Lee were hilarious. It felt like you were just hanging out with friends. Now the channel feels much more like a sales tool, and Iâm not blaming Andertons for that. Theyâre a business and i understand, but it was way more fun before.
nothing wrong with that... personally I've been loving the Lee/Pete vids
Excellent video! I don't even play bass and I love watching these two. As far as other favourite bass lines (beyond what you mentioned), Geddy Lee tops my list.
I started Bass aged 15 Iâm left handed but my mum couldnât afford a left handed bass, they were quite a lot dearer then (70s)đso I said Iâd learn right handed which hampered me quite a lot đbut soon felt natural,Iâve always been into Rock/Metal,but I have some guilty pleasures and Duran Duran are some of my favourite bass lines,my backs pretty screwed up toođ
The reverse 3-finger pattern has how I've always instinctively done it. Nice to hear that confirmed/reinforced by someone else!
Lee & Cici are sooooo great together! Would make an awesome duo, new genre bass band?
As a six string player, this had me picking up my bass and reminding myself what a cool instrument it is!
10,000 days was my first tool album I bought also!!!!!! Such great art work in that album!! I have a ton that I learned but the first one that comes to mind was âsoul to squeezeâ RHCP!! Also â Yesâ â yours is no disgraceâ !! And â yesâ â heart of the sunriseâ and a lot of Iron Maiden
Oh and for me, the bass solo from My Generation by The Who blew my mind
Just a few of my fav bass riffs...Around the World-RHCP, Roundabout-YES, Rearranged-Limp Bizkit (say what you will, it's an awesome riff), and Sabbotage-Beastie Boys
Fun to watch. I play bass mostly and there just aren't a lot of bass jam sessions going on.
One of my absolute favorite bass riffs is Lounge Act(Kris Novocelic, Nirvana)
I really enjoy this combination of presenters!
Favourite bass riff - it has to be NIB. Ozzy, Tony, Bill and Geezer should be made National Treasures - 'nuff said. :)
can't lie, I didn't know who their bassist was, but he is certainly great... Bill Ward and Tony Iommi have been two of my favorite musicians for a long time, and of course Ozzy is awesome too lol
Lounge Act, Hysteria, Lovesong by The Cure, Sir Duke, all for different reasons, but quite foundational
Lee is so kind and enthusiastic. Is it just me or does anyone else think that the intro has a bit of a tubular bells vibe...
Really enjoyed this video. When I heard Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick,my mind automatically went to N.I.B.
Cici is so chill and it's funny how well she pairs with the 2 most hyper guys on the channel
I don't play bass but that was awesome. Cool riffs and cool seeing them played. Cici is a beast.
Thank you so much!! :)
Lee and Cici wants to make one buy a Bass, along with all the great pedals!đ
Good job. I wish my early piano teachers had the same view as you two re counting. I think it was one of the things that stopped me playing when I was about 12. Iâve become a convert to the metronome for practice, and can now count. But once Iâve got the technique or song under my fingers I still donât count.
Great job, you two!!!
You guys are so much fun. That said, you need a "yeah" counter! :)
I used to keep a magazine cut-out of Norman Watt Roy on my kitchen wall for inspiration.
Some bass player Norman..
Cici is an incredible player and has such infectious good energy. Looks like her and Dave are becoming main stays here⊠I hope
thatâs the case because I canât think of any more deserving people.
Wow thank you so much Jordan, it really means the world to hear that :)
Hysteria is definitely my favorite bass riff ever, but Rapperâs Delight isnât far behind. Royal Blood also kind of blew my mind with what a bass sound could be.
This was great!
Good craic. Enjoyed that
Loving the addition of CICi, but also missing Nathan⊠did he leave? On a break? Did valve buy andertons and decide there can be no more than 2 bassists?
A thought I have is since they tend to get people in for a couple of days and do all the filming it could just be he was on holiday that week.
I read that Level 42 have a couple of festivals and an Autumn tour coming up.
Level 42 are doing the festival season, Nathan has also been playing for the Blockheads. Level 42 are touring a few dates in Nov then Nathan is out touring with Frost*
@@alisonphillips3280 I wish Frost* would come to the states! I love that band sooo much.
@@alisonphillips3280 thanks ! I was curious about Nathan also đ
Awesomeâess intro đ€đŒđđ€đŒ
Your a sweetheart Cici, Lee is OK has well, brilliant bass playing, I love it.
Hey! Super cool vid! Nice to see those Two super talented bass player talking about riffs! Does anyone know what's the model of sire Lee is actually playing? I can't find this model with this particular fretboard :/
Seeing Lee struggle with the 3 fingers starting with the ring made me feel really good about my playing because that came really easy to me....however, he's better than me at literally every other facet of the bass.
Ever hear of Andy Fraser; bassist from the band Free?
I love the bass riff after run to the hills guitar solo
My interest in Tool was from a concert. One of my friends wanted me to check out Tool. I jumped in head first lol
A nice genre spread for my fave bass players :
Jean Jacques Burnel
Steve Harris
Rob Trujillo
Mark King ( and not just his slap! )
I really got started with dave Matthews band- ants marching, and rage against the machine - bomb track. Very different songs but just made me want to play bass. Looking back I was way off with my attempts at playing them, but that's the danger of youth in the early Internet era.
One day I will get a bass rig, as a guitar nut for 40 years its now getting to that time where I really should have a bass and an acoustic as well.
It wont make me play better but I know it will be fun.
Well these two seem to like what they do :) đđ
Great stuff both! Although you've made me realise that I've being playing schism wrong for a very long time... Oh Well. (and yes - have played lots of prog etc and one particular tune that our band played in 13 I could only eventually play once I'd internalised it and felt it - counting has never really worked for me)
