The grandson of famed South African president Nelson Mandela has criticised the UK Labour Party's shadow secretary David Lammy for stating that his grandfather would not have supported the ongoing pro-Palestine college campus protests.
Lammy, who made an appearance in Washington DC on Wednesday, shared his disagreement with the Gaza solidarity demonstrations during his speech at the Hudson Centre among US Republicans.
The Labour politician stated that Mandela would have advocated for peaceful protesting instead of "violence and rioting".
During the 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's presidential inauguration, his grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, emphatically disavowed Lammy's remarks about his grandfather.
"Contrary to what David Lammy, the Labour MP in the UK, would like us to believe, [Nelson Mandela] acknowledged the heroes in the Civil Rights Movement in the USA and campuses all over the world who regularly protested for our freedom," Zwelivelile Mandela said in a lengthy post on Instagram.

The opinion of the Israeli government is not set in stone. If enough pressure was applied, to the point that it hurts Israel more than a Palestinian state would, then the situation could change. Possible pressure includes sanctions, limiting travel, freezing funds in international banks, withdrawal of protection etc. The problem right now is that Western nations expect Israel to magically change their minds while still funneling arms, funding and diplomatic/political aid to them in a never-ending stream. A goal without strategy is, as you say, impossible. A two-state solution is not.

It’s alarming that Lammy talks as if people will forget Labour’s motivation to alter their blindly supportive policy backing Netanyahu was only changed to thwart the SNP motion that could have cracked the Labour Party. We need an enema in Westminster to get rid of these Politicians with no firm values in an effort to avoid being held to account. Leaders lead by holding principles, not following election polls. Warrants sought, whilst both main Parties did nothing but cheerlead this catastrophe.

If Labour changed their mind and started to apply actual pressure on Israel, together with every other country's/party's leader in the West who have been passive and/or complicit, then that would be a good thing. Don't forget, but welcome the change. A free and equal Palestine is the goal after all.

Tory government "don't recognise Palestine as a state" meaning that Israel is an occupying force and thereby Palestinians have a right to resist. Does this minister understand that his reason for not believing the ICC has jurisdiction actually means that he's condemning Israel as illegal occupiers.
Words have meaning and he has no idea what he's just said. If he'd simply said the ICC should be allowed to make an independent assessment and ruling he wouldn't have condemned anyone.

So the UK can support the ICC for Putin, claiming the work is important. The UK does accept Palestine as a state but many countries in the world does (sounds like the UK making the rules again.. I.e. Rwanda is a safe place because we say it is).
UK doesn't want Israel to be shown to be committing crimes against evidence so, we simply say we don't recognise Palestine and Israeli actions are OK.
Does the UK support the warrants for Hamas people, if so then they should also support other warrants.
No wonder people are turning away from politics, noone can give decent answers, and when it's clear they say "I don't recognise that" or the premise of the question!
