Ben Wallace (18pts/22rebs/10offrebs) vs. Lakers (Game 5, 2004 Finals)

  • Ben Wallace gives the Pistons an unexpected extra edge against the Lakers by being a factor on offense. Not to mention that somebody who crashes the glass like a madman and grabs 10 offensive rebounds is offense in itself as well. June 15, 2004.

    Ben Wallace is the center that every nba team wants and needs. This dude was unbelievable. Just standing 6'9, his super vertical leap, with speed and yes even agility better than most centers if not and with his lockdown defense in the paint against anyone is just mind blowing. Yes he had bad jumpers but with his speed and leaping ability he can make shots whether it's off the board, dunking over somebody, put back, offensive rebound and even sometimes post games. He could blow by all most all centers and don't make me say his defensive attributes. I'm sure it's all 99. He even could make quick passes because of his quickness and great understanding of the game both on defensive and offensive as well. Amazing. I doubt we will ever see someone like him again.

      @@jbsix Draymond is an elite hustle player and defender no doubt but Big Ben was way better. Dude averaged almost 4 blocks, 2 steals and 14 rebounds a game at 6'7. The one thing Ben had by looking at this video is his athleticism. Even Draymond said Ben was his idol and you can see why. Their intensity is similar.

    The true is that Shaq was muscled as he wasn't on his entire career on this series (or at least since the early 90's) by Big Ben. Check how Ben blocks Shaq for the rebound at 2:24 Wallace won this one for Detroit, by outrebounding Shaq and shutting down the paint for Kobe (who shot 38% for the series btw).
    Wallace was one off the greatest physical guys to ever play in the Nba. His combination off hustle, strenght, vertical and speed at this point was unbeliavable. And the fact he was the only guy that Artest wanted no bussiness with tells you how imposing he was for his opponents (no one really wanted to piss this beast at the time).

    Exception athlete. One of the most athletic players in NBA history. Quickness, strength, intelligence, hustle, are all attributes he had at top notch levels. Ben was a very intelligent player on both offense and defense, picking his spots and moves perfectly. Though he didn't hold the ball skills of many elite players, he made up for it with his basketball IQ and his dominant athletic ability. HOF bound, absolutely.

    • @29sentz
      @29sentz Před 5 lety +3

      Yeah but Billups did so many little things that you just could not believe. Billups would take bumps from his opponents just to create space during drives, take bumps from opponents to create contact and draw a foul during shots and often making those shots too for an and 1 (Hamilton was good at this too), and hit so many big shots for the team plus was incredible from the line. Billups would also make his defenders look inadequate to the task of playing in the NBA (he did it to Kobe in the finals) because Billups was so schooled in the fundamentals of basketball because of his commitment and respect for game and how it should be played, which is why Billups got it and did deserve it. He was an ambassador for correct way to play basketball and thrived under Larry Brown. Billups is one of the most underrated players ever, it had to go to Billups.
