      Agreed, they've been the only hero factory sets I've sought out as an adult. I had a few as a kid and I really liked them back then too.

      I prefer Invasion From Below, but tbh my favorite movies are Pacific Rim, PR Uprising, Godzilla, and Shin Godzilla. My favorite setting is Warhammer 40K, which has multiple factions who’s whole thing is either BIG MONSTER or BIG MECH.

    I feel like Splitface deserved a place too. His character and unique design are what set him apart from the other sets for me

  • @Kalhiki

    Reapa would definitely be a pick for me. He was like, the perfect small set. Just a cool design, unique build, and all at a lower "impulse buy" price. Even better that he was paired with Evo, who was equally cool with that big cannon arm and also at the lower price point. A great good vs evil combo!

    I recently pieced together all of my old breakout sets that I could, bought replacement parts, and then bought pre-owned sets of all I didn't have.
    I loved breakout as a kid, so now that I'm an adult I've completed my collection and can take pride in my favorite Lego lineup ever.
    Hero Factory Breakout was simply peak.

    Black Phantom is most likely absolute pinnacle of HF villain building only rivaled by perhaps Witch Doctor.
    His drone, his sword mace, his absolute massive size and color scheme... Perfect

    Toxic Reapa, Evo, Bulk, Rocka (or Furno, one of those two) and Core Hunter, that'd be my list, it's actually a pretty hard list to pick from, Breakout was Peak
    (Also we all knew Core Hunter was gonna be number 1, he's a channel favourite)

    Ah yes, breakout. My best year after wild planet. I remember being a little upset after accidentally getting second thornax for Christmas, but now I'm kinda thankful! I can appreciate the "teal" ccbs parts and black armor that comes on him is really useful!
    In honorable mentions I would also add Furno. Man's got everything: funny theme (fire hero going underwater) great design with the water turbines, red recolored hero blaster and the tubes!

  • @leximatic
    @leximatic Před 4 měsíci +1

    I'd totally agree with Core Hunter. My favorite together with Black Phantom. It's a bit strange in HF, that in many cases the villains made the better sets.

    • @tl4real310
      @tl4real310 Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, villians in HF are nearly always way more extraordinary (like freaking shark, giant fly, etc.) , but in "breakout" heros are super cool, even tough they have almost similar shapes and sizes most of them cool anyway with thier minimalistic designs (like breez, rocka, bulk, furno, stormer xl, surge)

    My number one is definitely Black Phantom, I really wanted it when I was a kid, I had only seen it once in store and I didn’t buy it. Then I never saw it until I grew up and bought it from the internet. I really like the menacing look of him.

    Honestly this list is perfect for me accept I think instead of surge it should’ve been furno because he was also given such a beautiful armor placement. I get it tho cuz ur biased for the mask. It is a cool set.

    I'd say that Bulk is also worthy of a top 5. He has a badass Rocket Launcher on his shoulder! Plus the colors, The silver and orange, perfection. Plus he is In the same "line"? Combo? Yeah, I'd say combo. So he is In the same combo with the core hunter, that should give him some style points as well

    Great video! I personally am bias to breakout Nex, as he's my favorite character, as well as maybe bulk for the parts. However, i totally think i wouldve added Breez to the list with her excellent use of system parts to spice up the build, as well as the red version of the laiser shield. Otherwise, id probably have the same list, lol

    surprised breakout furno didn't appear, or bulk for that matter. I believe those are both very peak redesigns of the characters. really breakout was the best of the best for hero factory, almost like a refined version of 1.0 mixed with some 2.0, and really doesn't get much better then breakout!

    2012 was a bit of a lighter year for me in LEGO Star Wars despite getting 12 of the sets released that year, but it's because there were a series of rehashes (don't need X-wings or TIE Fighters if you already got one), stuff I didn't care about (I'm sure the Old Republic is really compelling, but I'm not a gamer, so I never delved into that side of Star Wars), or they were just too expensive and not high on the list of must haves at the time (I'll probably never get the Malevolence or Pre Vizsla in that Mandalorian Guantlet, but I think the newer one is better anyway). In fact, even of the sets I did get, I'd say that they're still not the best LEGO produced, but I do technically have enough to make a Top 5 and I'll be cheating a bit with it anyway if I were just to pick my actual Top 5 sets of the year. With all of that out of the way, let's get to it!
    *5. 9491 Geonosian Cannon*
    To be perfectly honest, it's just a minifigure pack to me. Because I got 7869 Battle for Geonosis, which came with Clone Wars Luminara Unduli, I had to get the set that included her Padawan, Barriss Offee, and then you also get Phase I Commander Gree! The Geonosians take more after their Clone Wars designs so they look a little wierd to me, I'm so used to the ones from 4478 Geonosian Fighter, and speaking of which, this is just a bigger version of that cannon from that set. It's not bad, but there's just nothing all that exciting about it past the minifigures.
    *4. 9494 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor*
    As someone that had Anakin's Yellow Eta-2 from 7256, Obi-Wan's Red Eta-2 from 7283, and Obi-Wan's Blue Eta-2 from 7661, finally getting Anakin's Green Eta-2 was just a must. While I'm not too crazy about its shift in design for continuity among my Eta-2's, it did set the standard for future Eta-2 releases, and it's still not a bad set. And just like how 7661 came with the booster ring to accompany Obi-Wan's Blue Eta-2 on his mission to Utapau, Anakin's Green Eta-2 comes with Mustafar accoutrements as that's where he goes with it. You're able to pretty much reenact the last 20 minutes of Revenge of the Sith with this set from wiping out the Separatist leaders in hiding, to dealing in absolutes, and sharing your point of views on the Jedi. Pair it with 7257 Ultimate Lightsaber Duel, swapping a couple of things out from the original set, and adding a platfrom for the Eta-2 as well as an intimedating explosion of Lava with parts from the Pick-a-Brick wall, and you can have a nice little setup.
    *3. 7526 Palpatine's Arrest*
    While I hesitate that it's a better scene than the set that's depicted earlier in the list, it's treason then... This set was originally pitched for a fan vote in 2007 for what would later be made as a Toy 'R' Us Exclusive in 2009. It was up against the Slave I on a Cloud City Platform, which would technically be made in 2018 for 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City, and the winner of that contest, 7754 Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser. But luckily, LEGO still decided to go through with Palpatine's Arrest and let it cook a bit longer because this set would likely not nearly be as polished as it is if it were released in 2009. Some may think that it's really only worth it for the minifigs, and they're nothing to scoff at, but I think that it's also just a big deal we finally got the Chancellor's Office. So much happens in it in the Prequels and Clone Wars, usually just a lot of Palpatine manipulating Anakin, but we haven't even gotten anything from the Jedi Temple and we only recently got the Massassi Temple from A New Hope in 2023. Locations are not common in Star Wars, and this one is so well done for both political scenes as well as action beats for the pivotal moments of Revenge of the Sith that take place there. It's also semi modular because the door the Jedi walk through and the speeder platform can be moved to 5 different locations to better accommodate your space or for play. It's just a good set even if it's not the most audacious in features with just a couple okay lever type functions to launch a lightsaber or figure, and break out the large window. The basics are there, but it's more what it means to have this set be made than necessarily how many endless possibilities there are for play. It's also a pretty big deal to have all the key characters included in this set because it could have easily just been Palpatine, Mace Windu, and Anakin for how quickly Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto get taken out in the movie.
    (Continued in the Reply)

      *2. 9488 Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack*
      Honestly, this could be Number 1, it's a great set, but I want to let the Top Spot be a surprise. Firstly before we get to minifigures since that's what Battle Packs are all about, this is one of the rarer Battle Packs that at least attempts to replicate something we've seen in Clone Wars. The Heavy Cannon is a pivotal element in the Clone Wars movie, and while it's a bit chibi-fied at least it's not another awful made up speeder or walker, it's something that exists in Star Wars! Okay, now for minifigs. Commando Droids were introduced in just the fifth episode of the series and they are one of the most formidable forces the Clones have to go up against through the series, so it's great to get a couple of them here. The ARF Trooper included is also from the fantastic Season 3 premiere episode ARC Troopers, and it's a shame that we never got to see any of the other designs from the series showcased, but I digress, to get a unique design that was different from the Lightning Squadron ARF Helmet was neat. But the biggest and baddest deal of all is the included ARC Trooper, who is Hammer from the same Season 3 premiere episodes of Clone Cadets and ARC Troopers. This was a really hopeful time for Star Wars fans because if we could have gotten the rest of Rancor Battallion or even just Fives and Echo from the Citadel Arc of Season 3 in sets, it would have been the best thing. ARC Troopers were more or less introduced in the 2D Clone Wars Microseries, they were just Phase I guys that had some neat red and blue striping, and then when the 3D Clone Wars series decided it was time to include them, we got this rad prototype Phase I.5 armor, and if LEGO had just decided to redesign the Phase II design to look a bit more like the Arc Trooper's helmet, 10 years of complaints would have never happened. The helmet would have been a bit larger to fit the minifigure aesthetic, no unsightly chins popping out, holes for accessories, we ended up in the wrong timeline. But speaking of accessories, oh man, cloth for the kama and pauldrons, what an improvement for mobility! And a new color other than black or gray for the helmet attachments! A Dark Red visor on Phase I Fox and on Captain Vaughn instead of the orange looks fantastic, and you have this set to thank for it. Without this set, you likely wouldn't have the Orange for Cody, or the Blue for the 501st either. This was also the first year that the blaster pistol was added to the lineup, and it's great to have 3 different size guns. The only downside is that the attachement packs were changed and now we no longer get DC-17's but depending on what sets you got that included them, you're good to go, plus they're cheap off Bricklink if you need more.
      Alright, the time has come...
      *1. The Planet Sets!*
      Yeah that's right, I'm cheating, and I'm putting all six of the planet sets released this year as the Number 1 spot. This was such a great line of collectibles. They were like the mini sets of 2003-04 and a handful of polybags released over the years, included a cool minifig to accompany the build, and it all came packed inside the planet the figure and build represented, and all for just $10 a pop! Phase 1 comprised of 9674 Naboo Starfighter & Naboo, 9675 Sebulba's Podracer & Tatooine, and 9676 TIE Interceptor & Death Star, and by far, the most popular of the whole line of Planet Sets is without a doubt the Death Star. It's two textured halves can be more versatile in MOCs than printed hemispheres, however I think that both Naboo and Tatooine have their charms, and certainly the more colorful builds, even if Death Star gave us out first TIE Interceptor in 6 years. Phase 2 comprised of 9677 X-wing Starfighter & Yavin 4, 9678: Twin-Pod Cloud Car & Bespin, and 9679: AT-ST & Endor, and while I'm sad to see the Prequels not represented here, Yavin 4 and Bespin are the second most versatile of the whole lineup because of their marbled plastics and less specific geographic features and clouds. While Yavin 4 is a jungle moon and Bespin a gas giant, because they've been made by marbling Dark Tan with Dark Green or Tan respectively, they've been used many times as domed rooftops and hot air balloons in MOCs, they're wonderful pieces to put your NPU skills to the test and then showoff. I myself have used Bespin as the top bun part of a burger shaped restaurant, and I've used both Yavin 4 and the Death Star to make a 50s Era style Atomic Bomb. Of the first 6 sets, my particular favorite is Bespine because the orange parts for the Cloud Speeder are quite nice, I bought a second copy, and then there's also the main man, Lobot. He is one of the best looking minifigures with his cybernetic implant being recreated beautifully compared to his appearance before in 7119 Twin-Pod Cloud Car, and they were able to duplicate the printing again for 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City, so it kills me they didn't bother to do that same thing for Echo in 75314 Bad Batch Attack Shuttle, but oh well. It's a shame that the hemispheres designed for these sets were never used in any other context. I bet they would have been perfect for an Octuptarra Droid or a UCS Character Model of a Buzz Droid. Even the use of them as representations of the planets in our Solar System for educational purposes was never used. Even just being used as unprinted things in sets for nice rounded shapes was not tapped. Plenty of potential could have come from these pieces, but I guess it was not meant to be as the line of Planet Sets ended the following year, never to have these pieces seen again.
      So there's my Top -5- 10 list of LEGO Star Wars sets from 2012. Maybe not the best year of Star Wars for me, but I'm pretty pleased with the ones I got.

    Unpopular opinion: brain attack heroes are better than breakout. Let me explain - i think alot of the breakout heroes arent doing alot new or interesting, like evo basically just has a gun, surge just uses ccbs pieces, nex got some weird laser that removes his hand, stormer XL has tiny arms, and furno doesnt really have a weapon either. I love breakout rocka and stringer and even breez, but i think brain attack heroes were better. Other than maybe rocka, i would pick every brain attack hero before their breakout counterpart.
