It's crazy how high of a high 2016 felt before the cancelation news. Back to back waves of some of the best CCBS sets LEGO ever made, plus a promising start to the Journey to One Netflix show; it all really felt like Bionicle was hitting its stride. And then Journey to One's finale took a sharp turn and the cancelation announcement hit like a semi truck. It's crazy to imagine what G2 could have done if they had kept releasing amazing sets like these. I'm glad that I picked up the ones that I did back in the day. Great video bro!

Australian here. Yeah, the last wave of G2 was limited to just America/Europe iirc. Really tragic move on legos part, did a big bulk order to get all the sets for my G2 Makuta back in 2016 and made sure to include everyone from the last wave (Except Quake beast whom was somehow out of stock on Legos site.)

Even in the United States Bionicle was hard to get, and I lived close to the Mall of America LEGO store at the time 😭 had to order a few online cuz they were never in stock
A lot of European countries also missed out. I never saw any of the sets pop up in England, even in Lego stores.
Man, as a Hero Factory fan, a Hero Factory 2 would be awesome. They have so many new parts that would make adding small details to new figures easier, and the new colors for those classic parts would be great. I was able to get a knock off #5 armor shell piece in legos teal color and i really got more feels than i should have getting an old hf piece in a new color. Sadly, i hoghly doubt that theme returning is in the cards. I can dream tho
I was fortunate enough to be visiting America when G2 was ending, and I was able to get Ekimu and Umarak while I was there. Very special.

0:50 I remember getting this set and being so excited to use the mask for a moc, but then a bird stole it from my desk which was situated directly Infront of my window 😭
I always liked the older Ekimu. As a mask maker, he gave off dwarf vibes and somehow that just felt right.
Hadn't thought of him in a high fantasy Dwarf context. That is really cool actually haha
I didn't even know bionicle came back with g2 until recently since I've been getting back into them. It's unfortunate I had no idea because these are so so much better than the hero factory stuff that I last had bought, probably 10 years ago at this point. I'm not really a fan of the ccbs system but these spice things up a lot more than hero factory 2.0 for example. I really hope lego brings back bionicle again so I can experience getting them in stores after so long. I'd probably even buy 2 sets each just to have a sealed one

2016 to me felt a much needed upgrade that took Bionicle as a whole, not just G2, to a whole new and exciting direction. Umarak the Hunter ranks among the best sets period, while, imho, Tahu Uniter is the definitive Toa figure (and that's coming from a diehard Kopaka fan).
Speaking of Kopaka, try switching those golden armor pieces on his legs with the ones from Gali, then replace those dark blue pieces on his arms with Kopaka Master's upper leg armor, since those stickers go in tandem with the stickers on its blaster. Change the red axles with black ones and voilà: you got the ultimate Kopaka as well!
Definitely Umarak the Hunter, Ekimu the Mask Maker, Agil, Uxar and Lewa Uniter.
Umarak goes really well with the leaf beast. The colors match really well.

this was the bionicle i kinda grew up with (g2 i mean).since im a little younger than most here i collected hero factory first and then bionicle when g2 came around. absolutely love this channel! ❤
I have no idea why I skipped out on Gali (both 2015 and 2016 versions). She has some of the best masks designs of Gen 2 Bionicle and her blue colour scheme is so refreshing to look at. I'm glad that I managed to pick up Umarak the Hunter but looking at the pictures of Gali made me wish I could travel back in time to get both Gali sets.

I would certainly pick Quake Beast, Ekimu the Mask Maker, Kopaka and Melum, Onua Uniter of Earth, and, of course, Umarak the Hunter (that guy is just too cool).
The falcon is very easy to make .and so is the scorpion . Far has I know Jangbricks was the only person in the u.s. to get second wave and I never heard of any body else having any .take care

Random fact: I used Umarak the Destroyer as a base for my moc Collector Lord Nixus (showcase in channel).
This was such a good year, really happy that I got both umaraks and somehow two ekimus, really sad that I couldn’t get the kopaka set.
None of the 2016 sets were sold in my country. But luckily I went to Florida that year and got muself Tahu, the Fire beast and Umarak the hunter :D
2016 is probably my second favourite bionicle year after 2007. I got the all the toa and their creatures, plus both Umaraks and “toa” Ekimu.
I really regret disassembling Gali, Pohatu and their creatures, and now the toa are all very expensive.
Not to mention that I disassembled my Umarak the Destroyer, despite him not being available in my country, and then sold some of his pieces, so I can’t even re-assemble him anymore.
Ben, if you look closer at the cloth piece in the accessory pack, it has all the Nuva Symbols incorporated into the pattern!
Gringat still has the falcon on his arm :D It's a very cheap set to get second hand too.
And, for me, Umarak the Hunter has to be my favourite Bionicle set. That's including G1
I'd take Umarak the Destroyer, as I always wanted him, and I did him way back when, for 15 Euros instead of 30, on amazon, because my parents didn't want to spend that 30 or something, so, you know how that goes with quality. And very recently, I had been looking for alternative sources for purchasing second hand CCBS or Bionicle, having seen that recent video of yours, and this website on which I've found all my past purchases on, I didn't check for 2 days, which, I usually check it every day, and then, when I did, there was an Umarak the Destroyer that had already been sold, for 15 Euros! And I know it was high quality, because I got General Grievous from the same person prior, and I suppose I can't complain too much, I DID get Grievous for 20, but, my heart just SUNK, it was terrible, so just know Ben, I am blaming you for it. (I'm not 😅 )
P.S. They also had Kopaka and Melum for 12! (I already have them though))
That cloth piece at 6:57 has all Bionicle G1 Toa Nuva symbols also I am in the process of turning Ekimu into a better toa along with other projects that I want to finish
I would’ve tried my best to get as many sets as possible (not duplicates), I would’ve loved to make G2 Bohrok and Rahkshi out of the pieces available…
The first wave of Bionicle 2016 sets I feel like we’re a step in the right direction, it’s shame that the second wave continue to have lackluster villains and then it ended up getting cancelled too early because I feel like it could’ve have gotten better had it continued.
I am defeated. I did buy a couple Bionicle sets in 2016, I kept with the Earth theme and bought Onua Uniter and Terak, and I've actually determined they look better when you swap their hands and weapons. Not nearly as good as Onua Master and Korgot, but I have a decent lineup of black and purple and gold parts to use in a contstraction build.
But I'm not here to talk about Bionicle, throughout all of Ben's Top 5 videos, I've talked about my Top 5 LEGO Star Wars sets because he's also a LEGO Star Wars guy, and that's where I am defeated. I bought almost no sets! I did buy sets, but not enough to even make a Top 5 list, at least, not a very good one, I'm going to have to hypothesize or just spin a wheel and say a thing is on the list. 2016 was the year Rogue One came out, but as a rule, I never bought stuff from the movie before I saw the movie, and then when I saw the movie, nothing really stood out to me as a must buy from the set line-up. We also had continuations of The Force Awakens sets, and I only bought one of those, and it was overpriced. Rebels had a few sets that grabbed my attention, but still, I don't know if I would say that they were must buy, and the ones I didn't buy were specifically because they didn't interest me or were remakes or were overpriced. Other sets based on stories not currently out were all remakes I didn't need, and I wasn't about to buy the constraction figures either because if I bought one, I knew the collector in my would have to buy them all, and we were one year deep. 2016 was terrible for me when it comes to LEGO Star Wars.
But with all that out of the way, here's a list!
*5. The Series 3 Microfighters, Sets 71525 to 75130*
I love the Microfighters line, but these are not very good pairings. A Resistance X-Wing vs a First Order Snowspeeder we never even saw in the movie? They warp the proportions well, but I almost couldn't care less. The Ghost vs. the TIE Advanced Prototype is not a bad combo, and they manage to make the goofy proportions work well, it's more just nice to get Hera in a cheap set even though I already had big version of the Ghost. And then we have the Wookiee Gunship and the AT-DP Walker, which is another bizarre pairing, the Wookiee Gunship is also not really all that iconic being in only one seen in Rebels, and then the AT-DP is actually pretty cute. They also warp the proportions well, and I do prefer this Wookiee over the newly redesigned Chewbacca, I wish Chewie were his colors, but such is life, can't always get what you want.
*4. 75157 Captain Rex's AT-TE*
Let's all be honest here, if you bought this set, it was only for the minifigures because the two episodes this set is based on are a lot of fun reuniting with a few familiar faces from the Clone Wars. However, the set is just a fishing troller version of an AT-TE, and half of it is inaccessible. There's not even a terrible representation of the Joopa that they sling for in this set to make its play more meaningful. Had LEGO made a companion set of the Rebels version of an AT-AT, that would have been rad, but this set is kind of purely for the figs more than anything else. I don't know why they decided to throw the Fifth Brother in here, and it's amazing that the Seventh Sister was never to be seen in any of the other Rebels sets, so while it's cool you get him, you shouldn't be happy about because he sucks, it should have been her!
*3. 75139 Battle of Takodana*
So The Force Awakens is a movie that looks like Star Wars, Sounds like Star Wars, but doesn't Feel like Star Wars. It has it's moments, but it just didn't land. However, I do rather like the Battle of Takodana, Maz Kanata's a fun character (not too crazy about her being older than Yoda, feels wrong), and the set based off the location, although mostly just facade, it looks good and it's all mostly break away. There's a three that can fall over, a whole wall can fall apart, there's a little section you will with studs that blows up when you shove a tile in from the other side, the two pillars in front are only held by a stud or two, it works. It's $20 overpriced, but it's not a bad set. You also get this wild srtip of bacon masquerading as a banner, it's a neat piece to have.
*2. All the sets I didn't get that when I look back on them, they seem pretty cool, so it's really just honorable mentions*
*-75133 Rebel Alliance Battle Pack* I like that there's a few random aliens and the outfits are pretty generic. Speeder also just looks fine. Lots of mixing and matching can be done for some army building, but I gave up on Battle Packs at this point, and all the others suck in my opinion just based off looks.
*-75137 Carbon-Freezing Chamber*
As someone that has 10123 Cloud City, this was not a necessity, and the version in the old set is terribly inaccurate, but we do kind of get the whole room, so I'm not sure why it's not even half the room here. For the money, it would be cool to get such an iconic scene with a few rare minifigs, but having some representation of the chamber already made this not that appealing, especially since it is really lacking in the other surrounding details. I bet LEGO will make a diorama of it that costs $150 and it will be well more worth it in terms of aesthetics.
*-75150 Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-wing Starfighter*
I really only had any interest in this set for the Season 2 look of Sabine, it's easily her best design from the Rebels series, but I didn't need another variant of the A-wing, and I certainly didn't need a third copy of Vader's TIE Fighter. It's based off the Season Premiere, which is cool, could have also easily been a set centered around the Protectors of Mandalore that included Season 2 Sabine. Rebels had either remakes of standard OT vehicles, or if it did anything new, it was mostly just a McQuarrie or Joe Johnson version of an OT ship instead of just being a remake. It's a hard period of time to make anything new and interesting in for toys, which is probably why they stopped after Season 2 even though Seasons 3 and 4 were the best of Rebels in terms of story.
*-75151 Clone Turbo Tank*
Already had the previous two, didn't need a third. It looks a bit smaller than before, but the figs are where it's at, but sadly I already had Luminara from 2005, a Clone Wars Quinlan from 2011, Kashyyyk troops from 2014, and the only one I didn't have was Gree. I'd love to get my hands on Gree, but he's never been in anything that wasn't a remake.
*-All the Rogue One stuff*
Like I said before, it all looks cool (although these sets are also huge), and the movie is great, but man, nothing about it made me want any of these sets. I just didn't want any Rogue One anything in my displays, it's super weird.
And finally...
*1. 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate*
Look, I'll be honest, this is another set that doesn't do much. It comes with June Sato, and a super rare (albeit inferior) version of Ahsoka Tano, and it's a representation of the Medical Frigates from Clone Wars, that's the main reason to pick up the set. I love this vehicle, if this had just been a Clone Wars set, it would be better. If they had made this before while Clone Wars was going on, I'd have passed this set up. There's a cool function where it's wings open and close, but it's really not that special outside of the figures, but it's a great looking set.
What a disappointing year for both Bionicle and Star Wars.
Got all of the set of Year 1 but I was starting college when year 2 happened so didn’t have much spare money.
ah yes Uxar the dragonfly beast has a very bird-like presence
In every official image its posed more like a hummingbird than a dragonfly in flight
I ended up getting 6 of those capes so I could put one on each of the Toa 😅 kinda wish I got a seventh one for Ekimu 😅

I did get kopaka and melum in 2016 but then when rebuilding him last year i tried taking apart thr torso and somehow broke his chest plate
the cloth accessory pack is covered in the toa nuva symbols
I remember seeing ekimu and a few 2016 sets when they were there and my thinking at the time is that I'm not intrested... wish I bought them. Getting them again second hand is hard so for 2 uniters tahu and onua gotten slowly getting the rest

God I hate that I was both broke and in my "nah I'm too old for lego now" phase when g2 came out
I even went into a lego store to get a bday present for my brother
And being in the UK meant all the g2 sets were right there
I even briefly thought about grabbing Umarak but decided against it

Umarak The Hunter is not just the best 2016 set, it's the best G2 set.
And dare I say he's one of the best BIONICLE sets ever.
He's extremely unique.
No bionicle ever had antlers.
Or a bow.
Or a blade attached to a hip.
No one had a trans-green mask. WOODEN mask.
Mask Of Control is very Egyptian.
He also has OG play feature.

I honestly think Umarak the Destroyer is.. _really_ not good. Umarak the Hunter was pretty much peak character design so far as Bionicle sets are concerned; the fact that they didn't carry over anything of what made it so well-designed into his powered-up form and just made him look like a hulking brute is deeply disappointing.
That’s the whole point that the mask is too powerful and overcomes him no?
Why would he carry a bow when he’s corrupted by power and could do it with his giant hands
