I consider that the Wrights invented the airplane, while Dumont was the first to put an engine on it (the first motorized airplane).
Both were equally important imo.
Santos Dumont (Brazilian) Invented the airplane, something with wings thrown to the air like the Wright brothers did it, it's not an airplane.
But the write flyer had an engine, else it would have been a glider... the fact that it needed a catapult to assist it is something that is still used widely today. While he made the first practical airplane, the Wrights made the first powered airplane.

Santos Dumont?
Credited for the creation of the airship, he is not considered the first man to fly on a plane, but he did the first plane flight with his own propulsion (without needing rails, catapults or headwinds to take off). Creator of Demoiselle, the pioneer of ultra-lightweight, a creation that served as an initial step for countless other engineers and aviators to learn to fly and create their own airplanes, since as Dumont himself said when asked by a journalist at the time: "If wants to pay me a big favor, declare in your newspaper that, desirous of spreading aerial locomotion, I make available the patents for the invention of my airplane. Everyone has the right to build it and, for that, you can come and ask me for the plans. The device is not expensive. " A man who was not concerned with patents, as he was a visionary, whose biggest dream was to make aviation popular. AND YES, he did it with excellent success, fascinating París, the world cultural center of the time, there, the Brazilian Santos Dumont showed his successes and failures to the world and left a great legacy for aviation.
The problem with the airplane and Brazil is because the first American plane was patented first but tested later. And the first Brazilian one could fly on its own, and the American one needed something to get it of the ground.
I guess the Wright brothers "invented" the first plane but still, Santos actually invented the zeppelin, made a much better plane (more maneuverable and more independent) and he made his blue prints and projects easy to access, meaning he helped develop the invention with much more ease while the Wright brothers claimed all of their projects and didnt help much with improvements on the invention. So Santos was more relevant in that sense IMO

Definition of Airplane: “a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.”
The Wright Flyer fill the requirements
And no it didn’t use a catapult on its first flight, it was a rail that kept the plane straight instead of wheeled. Catapults were only used on later redesigns because it was faster and more efficient.
Brazil was only credited with it because Europe didn’t accept the US claim.

there are far more options for the "first" airplane ;)
Clement Ader in der Avion III (1897)
Gustave Whitehead in seinen Flugzeugen Nr. 21 und 22 (1901-1903)
Richard Pearse in seinem Eindecker (1903-1904)
Samuel Pierpont Langleys Aerodome A (1903)
Karl Jatho im Doppeldecker Jatho (1903)
The controversy is that of who made the first plane: the US or Brazil
Edit: guys i don't want to start a fight i was just clearing things up for drew (like some people in the comments) so ye that's it

Keep up the good work drew!
6:07 Not only Australia but also the Indian Subcontinent hasn't gone green yet
Well Ik Australia's case is cuz of our prime minister Scott Morrison sayin' to our government to not be afraid of coal and Australia's mining industry is also a big factor in it.
Indian subcontinent more cuz under developed really
@@Luca.NASCAR24fan75 Yea but also cause Indian Subcontinent refuses to consider coal as bad even though many people say it is
@@t-90ms Indian subcontinent isn't a country, it's South Asia , a region.
As a brazilian, we invented the airplane because a catapult isn't a start engine. And the Brazil in the meme is pretty accurate, with emphasis in the bad words.
BRAZIL MADE THE AIRPLANE, IS ONE OF FEW GOOD THINGS WE MADE, LET US HAVE IT
Nope.
Wright Flyer First flight: 1903
Brazilian plane first flight:1906
And no before you say it, the Wright Flyer didn’t use a catapult on its first flight. It was a rail to keep the plane straight, it also had an engine. The definition of a plane is “a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.” The Wright Flyer is a plane and it flew first.
@@starexcelsior1135 Stop copypasting the same thing over and over, you're annoying. Also, Brazil invented the airplane.
@ not the airplane they invented the self propelled airplane not the airplane
And he didn’t make it out of metal so planes didn’t exist till 1915

Day 3 of telling Drew that Pepsi never had a navy
They never had a FORMAL navy, they had a fleet of battleships stronger than 190 countries (ranking number 6 in the world).
@@wisemankugelmemicus1701 Sorry to burst your bubble but that never happened, it was an idea that was denied, and even if it did, the fleet wouldn’t have even been in the top 30
Yeah it’s true
The Wright brothers did supossedly fly the first plane, but the flight wasn't verified and they didn't manage to complete the established circuit. Alberto Santos Dumont was the first to be verified and complete the circuit.

chile was basically like: boliva, you are breaking the rules so make me loooong (back there they had their land plus most of argentinas)

Someone: *talks about first airplane
“Now all of Brazil knows you’re here.”
Explanation about the airplane:
The Wright Brothers first flew an airplane in 1903, while Santos Dumont (Brazilian) fira flew his plane in 1906. But there’s an important point: The Wright Brothers plane was catapulted into the air, while the Santos Dumonts flew by itself.
I would say Brazil got it first, but it’s still a complicated situation.
0:43 A Brazilian invented the plane but ok I will let you live
Umm no he didn't.
@@eufrasiohenriqueoliveirada3133 the wrights also had a motor
0:07 being a French Canadian myself nothing except for de, Marde and Maybe a few others are actually French the rest are just mumbled letters
From what I can tell, Santos created the first gasoline powered dirigible, the Wrights made the first aero plane- at least what I can tell from the Wikipedia lol. Either way both are important.
The wright brothera did ths ground work for dumont to do it, one with engine, one with a catapult, but wright did a great job managing the wings

Actually the Celts which lived on modern German territory were very advanced. Even in architecture. For example: the Celts removed the whole top of the “Ipf” mountain in Germany and built a fortress on it (This was in the 12th century BC). The fortress was reconstructed afterwards.

definition of airplane : a heavier-than-air aircraft kept aloft by the upward thrust exerted by the passing air on its fixed wings and driven by propellers, jet propulsion, etc.
wright brothers : glider
santos Dumont: airplane
