Furnace Install-Two Fitting Plenum Adaption-Sheet Metal Hack

  • The normal procedures for the installation of shop fabricated sheet metal adaptions for a furnace change out is the focal point of the video. A minor amount of verbal description is included at a few points to better illustrate a particular point on occasion. This is the installation of sheet metal only. No electrical nor gas piping is done and neither is any work associated with air conditioning. Simply sheet metal.
    The entire process is not shown for what most would consider a silly reason. You have to understand tradesmen that make videos. We have a job to do and that is our focus. I have every intention of recording the whole process every single time, but when the material hits the job the focus is immediately directed to the task at hand. And that is completing the project. We are only secondarily a content creator because that is only a sideline to the mindset of guys like me. As a result the first piece is usually just quickly held up to see if it's going to slip in and before you know it half the material you wanted to record being installed is already installed. Every single time this happens, I realize the camera and tripod is still in the truck only after a sideward glance to ensure the non-existant camera is aimed correctly.
    So when you see some of my videos starting only after the project has begun you now can understand why my career is as that of a tradesman and not as that of a Hollywood producer.... nor as that of a ruggedly handsome leading man earning big bucks for acting like he know what he's doing. I can do that right here in my own shop and at the same time don't have to worry about the Paparazzi. Of course I have to borrow money for coffee and the next step may be holding up signs at busy intersections.
    So hopefully that clears up most of the obviously missing components to projects in the videos. There will be more stuff missing in the future. As always, do not do as I say nor do as I do, but if you do do it in such fashion, do not lacerate your body parts or smash any fingers in the process. You are on your own.
    Enjoy.....

    To use a saying from Jay Leno,.. This job is " nicely done" !
    I did lean a lot while watching these and I also enjoyed them too.
    Thanks for your videography skills in this, not to mention the time it takes in moving the camera around so we can follow along.
    Cheers Wendell!

      Thanks Reg, for the kind words once again. It is major time consuming sometimes. The sheet metal layout and fabrication videos are hands down the hardest ones to edit too. Tractor videos are much easier. LOL

      Thanks David for watching yet another one !! I have a pretty tough one coming up soon too. Real involved with dampers and everything. Yeah, flex connectors have their place. I do use them on occasion, but it's usually with a hanging air handler in an attic.

      Man, you ain't just a kidding. When I broke in with an old country guy, I'd have to hold up and 8' section of duct while he'd drive an awl through the hanger and the bottom of the duct to run a pan head screw in by hand. That was after snapping a line and setting all the hangers into the joists in the same manner. Yep...yellow pine floor joists and #10 x 1" pan heads with a flat tip screwdriver was the law of the land. I remember when I saw a guy with a 50' cord and 3/8 Black and Decker with a 1/4'' nut runner in it hanging duct !! That day changed my life. THEN when Makita came out with the 7.2 volt battery drill, we thought we died and went to heaven !! No tripping over those blasted extension cords any more. What a time that was to be a rookie.

    Very sweet looking install. People have told me that I should make some videos. Don't think I ever will because of the reason you gave for missing content. I usually forget to even take pictures of a before and after project because I am so focused on the job. I guess if I figured in recording time while I am planning a job, I might get some of it on video....maybe? 😊😊😊

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  Před 2 lety +2

      Well, I can tell you if you do video the jobs, you will find quickly how doing the job is much easier by itself. I'm getting faster, but for the most part every 9 to 15 minute video has about 4 hours editing. They usually start out as an hour to 1 1/2 hours of video you have to cut down to an acceptable length. It's hard to keep the pertinent content in and not waste time on repetitive or boring stuff. Then there's the really good parts that are rendered useless because the camera was bumped and you didn't notice. And the dead camera batteries that die you don't know until you go to stop recording and find only 2 minutes on a super good 15 minute portion....the list goes on. Oh yeah...when the SD card fills and stops and you miss the most critical part. LOL But its fun and when it isn't fun any more, I just ain't a gonna do it. Oh yeah, thank you for the nice comment and you'll never know unless you try it !! LOL

    Another good job sir!! Just a suggestion, when I cut out furnace return hole I use a unibit in each corner then use shears. Good day.

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  Před 2 lety +2

      You know, I had forgotten I even had these old shears. I don't think I have used them in years. I usually cut the r/a openings with reds and greens and do it a LOT faster than I did this time with the shears. With the double cuts, its all about keeping them 90* from the material and I am a bit rusty with them. The Unibit IS a good idea for sure. Start all 4 corners real easy that way. Good tip and thank you !!
