  • Amish and Bhavna have once again joined forces, following the tremendous success of their collaborative venture, 'Dharma: Decoding the Epics for a Meaningful Life,' which boasts a remarkable 6 million copies in print. Their latest book, 'Idols: Unearthing the Power of Murti Puja,' serves as a companion volume to 'Dharma'. It explores the profound reasons behind idol worship. Amish is one of the best-selling authors in India, renowned for his works such as the 'Shiva Trilogy' and 'Ram Chandra Series'.
    In the latest episode of the ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, the brother-sister duo delves into questions surrounding the enduring practice of idol worship. They unravel the mystery of why people continue to embrace this form of worship despite centuries of violence against it.
    Amish and Bhavna also discuss the benefits of bhakti and explore the role of religion in individual lives and society. They ponder whether such worship can guide individuals towards discovering their true purpose and ultimately lead to peace and prosperity.
    They also share their views on the ongoing debate over Sanatana Dharma. Amish and Bhavna also talk about the impact of foreign invasions on society and reflect on their own family background, and how it nurtured and shaped their careers as authors.

    Despite horrendous Marxist control over Academia, I'm glad that Indian youth are finally getting their knowledge and wisdom on Dharma by such wonderful people..
    My story, I was a Western style atheist untill I start reading about my own history and Dharma.. Now I know what Hinduism is all about. I'm a Dharmic Capitalist Hindutva'ite
    That's why Left hates popular podcasts because they are giving space to Hindu voices

      Reasoning, debate n diverse way to belief is the pillar of Hindus. The philosophy sorrounding the activities we perform is more vivid in this religion.
      Leftists have their own agenda. Erase everything from slate of mind of individuals , write their own dictat n make them believe so that resistance to its existence n continuity is not a challenge.

    Didn’t know that no new temples were built for centuries in North India. Amazing to understand the possible reasons behind puja ghars in North Indian homes and their role in preserving Hinduism in the face of Islamic influence over centuries.

      I always say that south India should thank North Indians that north fought and prevented Islamic invaders go south in force and allowed to protect magnificent temples of south. India many magnificent temples of north and west including Dwarka, Somnath, Kashmir, Delhi, Mathura, Ayodhya...not one left standing. That is why I respect Swaminarayan BAPS who build magnificent Akshardham in Delhi. South , North, East and West Ll Hindus must awake and realize glorious past.

      Speak for yourself then. I come from a Punjabi Hindu family and my mother would read Ramayan, Gita, etc during her pregnancy & so did most women in our area. It was considered auspicious and focusing on good samskaras to impart on the child. It's pretty common for us to hold 3 day or even 7 day kirtan & the whole pind would come and listen to chapters of the Ramayan or Gita from start to finish along with music in between. Funnily enough if I can't sleep to this day I listen to Hanuman Chalisa or kirtans on CZcams. Your child learned what you taught it. Had you taught them Ramayana or Gita in the womb they would've been predisposed to it hence what we call samskara.

    Many Hindus are not aware of Pran Pratishtha.This important spritual ceremony needs to be told to non hindus who treat idol worshippers with contempt.

    • @gbhatia9809
      @gbhatia9809 Před měsícem

      There is a distinction between "worshiping through Idols" and "idol worship". Worshiping through Idols is sanctioned in Sanatan Dharma, whereas Idol Worship is not. Idols are consecrated & installed by recital of hymns & specific prayers (Pran-Pratistha) so that they bestow specific blessings, powers & inspiration of God on the devotees.
      Idols per se have no such value - so you find firecrackers with pictures of goddess Laxmi being burst during Diwali, Ganesh idols washed ashore after immersion or torn pictures in the dustbin.
      There are many Gods & Goddesses in the Hindu religion because requirement of blessings, power & inspiration are different in different individuals & also vary at different life time of the same individual. A student recites prayers invoking blessings of Saraswati to enhance learning power, a soldier prays before Durga, a ruler before Lord Rama, a craftsman before Lord Vishwakarma & a singer before Saraswati or Mother Sharda - all to acquire excellence for the purpose of their being, their existence in the world - which is their true Dharma. Such prayers have potential to bestow excellence to all segments of the society unlike other religions where one-size fits all.
      Traditionally, the eyes of the deity were not fully carved until all rituals were performed. In the modern times, the face of the deity is covered till its installation at designated place with specific hymns & rituals or prayers. Before rituals & prayers, the idol is merely an idol. Afterwards, the God or Goddess is seen as residing within that idol..

    Superb Amish and Bhavna ji- on the comparison between western and indian systems. Good explanation on the lineage of change of notions of divinity. It always infuriates me to see western indologists and their obsession with genealogy of the gods in terms of linear time, when these are obviously deities who transcend linear time and even physical limitation of the visible earth sphere. I have tried ‘ writing back’ but I am exhausted by the pervasiveness of the bad faith with which they control our narrative. Happy to listen to this discussion. Like a breath of hope and fresh air.

    Thank you Smita for this excellent and informative podcast. So many gems of Sanatan Dharma were discussed. Yes, there are malpractices in it as well since the practitioners of this and any philosophy are flawed humans. Recognizing those wrongs like casteism and then accepting the weaknesses and then, working to redress or correct them is the path forward. Rejecting an entire rich and wise philosophy is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Instead we should reexamine and revise so that our great culture is not lost to the new generations around the world; not just in India. Both the guests are creatively engaged in that very endeavor and I thank them for it.

    Hindu ancestors didn’t surrender and temples were restored/rebuilt,
    It seems mainly because in India the theology was there explaining the reason for idols , gods, nature etc. they had beliefs based on logic and science.

      @KoyukiSenorita Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes. The days people have mostly faith. But if we look for dharmic books, real sadhus, rishis they know the actual reason why murtis, temples are actually built. People don't try to read or know about it and they aren't able to understand it's logical essence. 😢. Our Dharma has so much knowledge, our life will be done but we won't be able to read all

    The Islamic Conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilization is a precarious thing, whose delicate complex of order and liberty, culture and peace may at any time be overthrown by barbarians invading from without or multiplying within.
