- Yesterday we surrounded him with love and said a peaceful goodbye to our special warrior boy, Harris. Since his rescue three years ago, Harris’s story and healing journey has resonated around the world. He had been wrapped in a blanket and discarded like trash alongside I-270, emaciated and near death. We didn’t think he would even survive that first night. But he fought hard just like the warrior he was. Harris exemplified strength, resiliency and the forgiving heart that lies within every dog - regardless of the betrayal and horrors they have endured.
We will forever miss our Hare Bear, Hawwis, Hare-Hare, but we’re grateful for his life and to have had him in ours. He will stay in our hearts always. We understand how much he meant to all of you, you were right there with us, praying with us every day during his healing journey. He was your dog as much as he was ours. Due to the severe malnutrition and horrors he endured, he had degenerative brain disorder and his little body just couldn't go on. From someone who has virtually lost faith in human nature thank you for the amazing rescues and the incredible healing of bodies and minds of all the precious souls like Harris. So many would have assessed his injuries and decided on euthanasia, instead you ploughed everything and more into his recovery and blessed him with 3 years of happiness and love. Harris got the blessings he so deserved and needed. His life ended well and he will influence others to be warriors and try since he tried and won.

Those monsters who hurt Harris don't even know the blessings, healings and love they missed out on because they failed to see the wonderful creature's dogs and pets are. They missed it, but Harris knew. Harris knew people could give so much to him and he fought to get it. And Harris did get his rewards, his human kindness before he passed and continued on, over the Rainbow Bridge. Good dog Harris ! Good dog !!
I remember Harris' face lying on that cardboard, just staring - not looking at anything; gaze was so empty. Then the tireless care and love surrounded him 24/7 and he realized what it means to be loved and he answered that so fast :) I remember when he first ate on his own I was like "OMG he wants to live now!" since an appetite is *so* crucial to have for recovery and a great sign the mind and the body finally agrees. Thank you for this, it's so sweet to see him run around. RIP Harris, you were such a strong and positive example of what a properly cared animal can recover from.
that first picture made me cry. I'm so glad Stray Rescue got him. He lived the rest of his life knowing he was loved.

Whoever did this needs to be punished severely he had the will to fight and wasn't giving up but his body had enough🤬 he never got to experience the love of a forever home but at least he died being loved and spoiled and knowing that some humans are good. RIP Harris we are sorry humans failed you

I thought this poor boy wasn’t going to make it. The light in his eyes was gone. You guys brought him back from the brink, and reminded him that not all humans are cruel. RIP Harris.
Beautiful colour, he became friend, live together with happy today and tomorrow.
I was feeding a dog that lived behind a grocery store. Went to lunch with 2 guys from work and asked them to drive around so I could drop food off. They were picking on me for being a softy till "Jake" came out of the woods and they got silent. Finally caught him with the county dog catchers help. He had been shot and had to have his left rear leg removed. I was lucky he lived with me for 10 years. Your hearts are far larger and stronger than mine. I would be emotionally broken doing what you do.
It’s hard to hold back the tears of how anyone can treat an innocent soul the way they did Harris. But God brought you angels into his life so he can feel his last 3 years of being loved and feeling happiness. He can now run with others feeling the freedom and love they all deserve. Thank you rescue angels for all you did for Harris. God’s blessings to you all 🙏

I can't believe what a chubster he turned into! I'm thankful he experienced love and happiness before he passed. He was able to be his true and full self and show off his beautiful and unique personality. Thats the only way I cannot be overcome by the pain at seeing his suffering. I'm so glad dogs are able to put the past behind them so fully once they are in loving arms.

"Wrapped in a blanket and discarded like trash." That was how some low life coward left Harris and in horrific condition. I just wish someone read the story of Harris, knew who did this to him and reported them. However, the focus now is on his transformation and all the people who gave him such loving care. It was wonderful to see him return to health and so happy. It was sad to hear he passed away after all the effort to make him well but you gave him some wonderful years. I wonder how old he was. I will remember him and those beautiful eyes.

Poor furbaby, I hope he knows he is loved. I say it again and again, I don’t understand how anyone can treat furbabies like this. My Woobear’s biggest worry is he might have to wait 10 minutes for his walk or food. Furbabies are a commitment to take care of them for the rest of their lives. I hope he is spoiled for the rest of his life.
