Why Two-Foot Finishing is the Most Underrated Skill in Basketball

  • Regardless of your finishing skills, there are always ways to convert more of your attempts at the rim. And one of the least talked about, but undoubtedly most valuable, is learning to finish off of two feet. I broke down why these are many times better than one-leg finishes, and how they can be added into your game.

I’m a natural two foot jumper and always tried to learn 1-2 because it’s what I see others do but now I see that I was correct when I felt more control and versatility in my finishes plus it keeps me out my head of counting steps and finding a rhythm it’s straight up and decide with my hands.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like the two-foot finish (with the jump stop) sort of died out for a while in college and NBA. Like from 2008-2019 ish. But I see it coming back. You have so many more options with a jump stop two-foot finish. With one foot, you're committed...whatever happens happens and is based on a guess.

I love it! sound advice, and very well crafted video. But you should touch on why this skill is underutilized, or at least ask the questions. You said it - it's not as fast. You meant it as a good thing, which it is at times. But you don't always have that extra bit in the highest levels. You see Marcus Smart having a hard time with finishing for his reliance on two-foot finishes. Donoven Mitchell added one-foot finishes right before he got in the league and it made a world of difference for his game. You need both, and you need to know when to use which.

Your right too alot of players get injured cause of one foot finishes .

My only problem with 2 foot finishes is the amount of pressure and torque you create on your knees, especially if your an explosive player. You'd think you have better balance and a more even energy distribution but every time I see guys do it I cringe I'm not gonna lie, I think D Rose is the best example of how dangerous 2 foot finishes can be. I think more of a quick 1-2 is better imo.
