Is this the same Ronald Deckers as the one who co-wrote A History of the Occult Tarot, a book clearly opposed to the concept of card-reading? Yes it is, and this time he appears to be on our side...
I highly recommend this excellently researched and clearly written book, although it does go into some very specialised areas and isn't always a-laugh-a-minute.
Thank you for this review Robert. You are the one tarotist I’ve found on CZcams whose tarot book reviews I trust, every time. I read Paul Huson’s Mystical Origins of the Tarot on your recommendation - it proved an eye-opening read and has influenced my understanding of a number of the cards. Fantastic stuff!
I agree. It's an essential book.
Always up for a good historical book. Looking forward to reading this one now. You have me intrigued especially when you shared a bit of Decker’s thoughts and interpretations. Interesting…
Thanks Robert 💖 I enjoy reading up on the history of Tarot and where its roots are and where they are perceived to be. On my Amazon wishlist for after I get through reading "Gravity's Rainbow" ...
Enjoy it!
You are a unique voice here on YT. When I do check in, you do not disappoint, and I could listen to you for hours Robert. Thanks for being you
That cover would have me running the other way, but I am intrigued so....
Yes the cover is frightful!
And just like that my book list grew longer! Merci beaucoup, cher Robert😘 Sonia
You're welcome, dear Sonia. x
I was searching for a good esoteric tarot book and had an eye on this book too ..thanks for the wonderful review ❤
Enjoy the book!
Thank you for the review!
You're welcome!
love the hair, get some in different colors...pastel pink, blue, you know what to do
Lovely insightful review. I will definitely check it out!

You have mentioned in a number of videos about cards about which there is common disagreement as to their interpretation. Could you do a video on the most controversial cards? I am trying to get a bead on a new deck of mind and I am using your very helpful "cheat sheet" of single words and phrases for each card. Clearly these are mostly the common interpretations. But some cards of my new deck seems way off from these so I wondered if these might be some of these "controversial cards." I love your videos and look forward to each new one.
Hi Mary
That's a very good idea for a video. For now, I would say that the court cards - all 16 of them - are by far the most controversial cards. There is very little real consensus about them. I have made four videos about them if it would help. They are in my "Card by Card Tutorials" playlist.
I think with tarot card meanings there is generally a very wide spectrum of interpretations available, even if you stick to the RWS system. If you compare Little White Books you will find agreements but many disagreements. The best thing to do is to read widely - without driving yourself mad - and then decide which meanings resonate with you. I think all tarot readers do this, and this is partly what keeps tarot so interesting as a form. If it were taught in universities it would get less interesting.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and lengthy response. I should to your play list and work my way through it more carefully. Cheers.@@teatarot4557

I can't make the connection with kabbalah & the cards either!
I think some people must have the right brain for it:-)
