  • Setting up a deer stand by yourself is no easy task. Hiking the gear in alone is a lot but here's how I put up my latter deer stand by myself. I hope you enjoy my adventure at the start of the 2017 deer hunting season.

    I do everything solo, nobody around me likes hunting, and YES it is hard to do everything by yourself. I carry a climbing stand on a game cart, but I will get me a ladder stand for next deer season. Public Land in Florida is flat and easy to walk except when it is flooded and muggy, still beautiful even full of alligators and pretty sneaks. Thank you for sharing your video.

    Frank your stand came w
    ith two nylon straps about 20 feet long! They are to be use to tie the left one around the back of the tree ! Then down to about 5 steps up from the right bottom ! Then the same thing for the right strap but it goes around the right side of the tree and down to the 5 th rung on the left side of the ladder! That secures the ladder no wobble! Look it up on your computer ! Be safe ! Take it from someone that fell 12 feet because I didn't put them on ! Good hunting !

      Ya mine has a bar that connects to the tree that ratchet on first to secure it. That must have been a pretty scary fall. My joints are such no that I probably only have another couple of years in a tree stand. Soon I’ll have to build a doll house lol.

    I climb up the tree with spikes, secured a pully.

    one 15 ft rope from each side of the top so when its up you can pull them back to another tree to hold the top from moving when you go up to fasten the strap, or keep wrapping them around the tree and stand. be safe

    I place a ratchet strap about as far as I can reach from the ground..tighten..then climb up to hook up top strap. That way the stand will not move while I climbing.

      @FrankZinck  Před 5 lety

      My stand has a center beam that goes from the latter to the tree and I ratchet that down. Probably not as good as your idea. Thanks for the input.

    You should attach the criss-cross stabilizer straps before erecting and then cross them behind the tree and tie off to the ladder before ascending.

    • @FrankZinck
      @FrankZinck  Před 3 lety

      This stand doesn’t have cross straps but a bar to support. But this is great advice for that type of stand.

    I fell 25" setting one up by myself. Landed on my side then opened up my eyes and a piece of ledge was 3" from my head. Guarentee if my head hit that ledge I wouldn't be writing this now. 🙏 God was with me

      WOw talk about lucky. You could have been killed. I'm 58 now with bad knees and hips and moving to more ground blinds these days. A lot less risky.

      No this was on someone else’s land. I had permission but I only leave the stand up during the deer season.

      My wife helped me one year. I tied a rope on the latter and she stood on the opposite side of the tree and pulled the rope that was around a branch. She was able to take some weight off and stabilize it. Really helped.

      That’s how I did it for the longest until I got on CZcams and saw the idea of putting the bottom against the tree and then pushing it up .

    Me and my dad just tried to put one up and he tried multiple times by himself and bent the ladder. So when he climbed up it the whole ladder snapped and everything fell back it was a disaster. You got to know what you’re doing

  • @jamesmartin7282
    @jamesmartin7282 Před 3 lety

    No criss-cross straps? They should be attached to top of stand before you lean it against the tree. Likewise, I also tie a rope to the top of the stand on one side. After placing against tree, walk the rope around the back of tree and hold it taught as you climb.

    • @FrankZinck
      @FrankZinck  Před 3 lety

      This didn't come with criss cross straps. In fact it only came with two straps and I added a third ratchet strap. Good advice though.
