Dear Christian, I would like to thank you in the name of my band. After my KROME had not booted with the error, I was very worried about our next concert, as our music is based on my programmed sounds. Thank god I found your video on CZcams and the link with your image file. I did it exactly as you planned and it works again. I also created 2 spare Micro SD Cards. Nicely Done Christian. Here's a potential shortcut. I this exact issue come/go twice before, 1st time unit was barely outside warranty. Both times a power disconnect reboot got the unit running(?) Suggested a bad connection to me. Then I got a hard failure pwr cycling didnt clear. So... that linked with your vid; I removed the 1G simm card and visually saw discoloration on the card's connector tracks/AND the contact tangs on the PCB. Put some contact cleaner in a thimble and used a stiff PCB brush to clean the simm contacts. Also used it on the PCB tangs, but VERY GENTLY, stroking only upward (toward the Kybd). Then used a little denatured alcohol on a foam tip to wipe away any residue; both the simm contacts and PCB tangs. Snapped it back into the simm clip and the Krome booted normally. I'm not suggesting your simm card wasn't bad, but if this worked for me, might work for others w/out going thru the burn process... Many thx. Mike D.
I retract my statement below and you do have to fix this the way Chris suggested. the disk image worked and my keyboard is back up. thanks Chris!! your the hero and there more for korg users than korg. Im never buying korg products again
There is the Korg office solution !
1. Turn off the power.
2. Initialize the KROME. While holding down the
the EXIT button and the PAGE button next to it turn on the KROME.
The KROME will be initialized and the data will be written to internal memory. While the data is
while writing, the display will say “Now writing in internal memory".

Perfect! I changed the internal 8GB Class 4 SD card to a 16GB Class 10 SD card and it worked perfectly! Thanks a lot for uploading this video!

I had this system error too on start up- error 216.
Before you go crazy and take the keyboard apart, this is exactly what I did.
I followed instructions to hold down the exit and page buttons while the keyboard started up.
Nothing changed - the same message came up.
So in desperation I unplugged it from the wall.
Waited 10 secs.
Plugged it in again, and it worked like normal.
Sound and all.
Once I got the full functions again, I did a factory reset, and so far the error has gone

Happened to me too half an hour before a gig last Saturday.. :( If I follow the steps in the video do I lose all my own presets? (Cause then I would be very scr*wed..)

I followed these steps (using 16GB microSD, can't find any 4GB/8GB) and it worked well!
Just a note, I have some sound issue on first attempt (noisy distorted sound when i hammered hard the key on some settings), then i redo the .img writing step (reformat the microSD and re-write the .img) and it worked well on second attempt.

I wonder what causes this problem in the first place? When I am not using my Korg I always sore it on its end amongst my Guitar cases. Do you think this could be the issue?

No idea about the reason. For this, you need to address directly to KORG Tech. maybe they can give you some reasonable answer.

There is not enough space on the 4 gig miniSD card
I don't remember it may be a bigger microSD card. Why don't you buy another card? Now, years later, for sure are more cheaper. Don't know if you'll find another image file on the internet.

Please try to follow the video and for the file, you can try to use the image from link and let me know if it works. It is an image from my SD card, all is working for me. Keep the original SD card untouched and use another card. Good luck!

@@pedrolopez9422 To download the file just click on the link from my previous reply and it will take you to a page with a blue "Download" button in the middle. Click on it and save it on your computer. After that you should follow the steps from the video 2:27min to 3:30min (you also have instructions about what files and software you need). In my opinion, it is better to speak with somebody who is a little more skilled than you in this kind of thinks, no offence ...

I fixed mines, had to obtain the file that was on the internal SD card and transfer it to the new card that I bought. I also had to buy an external SD card to make the system update. Only problem is that some sounds are not working when I'm pressing on the keys. Does anyone know why that is?
I will try to make an image from mine, put it somewhere in the cloud and give you the link. Worth a try?
@@cristianstanila3215 there's some videos on this subject where I was able to get the file name, I still have the old SD card from the keyboard so I'm still researching it. We cannot format the SD cards according to the forum that I read. But save the file to your computer though just in case. I got a 32GB card for the internal storage because the stores no longer carry 4GB or 8GB so it's now 16GB and up.
Also update your workstation to the latest version 1.0.4 that can be downloaded from the Korg website as well.

Please use an external SD card for this update. When you download the system update, copy it to the new card. Then insert it to the keyboard and turn it on.
Press the global button, on the drop-down on the top right hand corner select system update. That will prompt you to do the system update, and turn off the key board once that update is downloaded to the keyboard, turn it back on and you should see the new system update to 1.0.4
@@mayrareyes8135 Normally you should not format the card, just put the image from below link on the new card with the software that I have mentioned in the video and try again.
After that your unit should be as new ...

I fix my korg krome change micro sd card I bought it already loaded so I just change it and it works as before I bought in full compass systems store, in case someone need it

@@monicabrooks8457 Hi. The image is from my SD card which is working. I didn't save anything but the original files there (no presets or anything). The file should have 4GB not 4KB and definitely is working. If the file is only 4KB I think it is downloaded incorrectly. So, try to download it again and let me know if still 4KB, I will try to renew the link. Just buy or borrow another SD card for test, keep the original one that you have. Let me know if you need more help.

@@monicabrooks8457 Hi. I remember that I have read somewhere that in case you suddenly unplug the unit without power it off some errors will apear. I do not remember what errors... Anyhow, I am sorry that your unit has issues again. Mine is ok. I think that I have changed the SD card with a 8Gb one but I am not sure.

Hey, @@cristianstanila3215 I just fixed my Krome. I downloaded "ApplePi Baker" App on Mac to image my Micro SD card, installed the card back in to my Krome and IT WORKS!!! All my patches were saved!!! I guess I need to make a back up card now...
@@Smooveg25 I'm glad that you fixed your Krome!. The strangest thing is that my old card is working also after I have reformatted it. I keep that one as a backup (I know that is not a bright ideea but ...) Good luck!
I've had to do this at least three times in the past three years. I've even had to put electrical tape over the flimsy metal holder, because it keeps popping lose when I play. Korg ought to fix this problem, but they won't. Should've got a comparable Yamaha. :sigh:
yeah mine broke the first time i had to change the sd card
Keep the slot for the media storage card at the rear in the middle empty when powering the Korg on and off. That seems to have helped me.
You got the 216 error because it was loose?
Thanks Samuel, turns out my internal SD card fell out too, I took your advice and put tape over it to keep it secure (‘cause I do carry this thing around A LOT). The first time I had the error it was the actual SD card being corrupted or malfunctioning-whatever, I had to rewrite the program on new one and replace it. Hopefully that was the last time I have to open her up.
