I love this video. I am a fairly new collector, and I'm setting up to be an artist. It helps to hear all the pet peeves. I received a doll that was clearly a 6 month size that was STUFFED into a 3 month outfit and the one extra dress that was included was a NEWBORN. Attention to details is everything when selling/receiving these dolls.
That is such a good point! Matching baby up to the correct size clothes and accessories is important! Why sent things that cannot be used for that specific doll?
What about paradise galerie doll can I do a box open for a paradise galeries?
I think one of the worst things for me would be if my Reborn came home smelling like smoke.

Thank you so much for doing this video! I fell in love with a baby from her gorgeous pictures but received a nightmare instead. Painting was bad with marks and her hair and eyelashes fell out because it was not glued and sealed. The box was so old and she smelled of wet dog. I could not believe it and the artist was so mean to me when I tried to reach out about it. This was my first experience as well so it was very heartbreaking. I think what some artists need to remember is we only have the photos and a written description to go on. We put so must trust in and have to save a lot of money .. but most importantly we are emotionally invested before we even have the baby. To have it all ruined is devastating on so many levels and it is not ok to take that for granted. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences! You’re so awesome for understanding as a collector and being so respectful and responsible as an artist!! 🥰
I’m so sorry this happened to you 😭you are so right! The emotional investment is there just as much as the financial, before we ever even receive the doll. 💔
I've seen videos of box openings where the dolls paint was peeling off the customer had to file a complaint against the seller
That’s a total nightmare, I can’t even imagine! 😭
One of my pet peeves are used beat up boxes that some artist ship their dolls. I've received dolls in used, beat up microwave boxes that looked like it's been stored in a basement for 40 years 😂😂. Once I open the box, worn clothes just thrown in with no blanket or bubble wrap to protect the doll. My 2nd pet peeve is when someone doesn't put a onesie on underneath the doll's clothing to protect the cloth body. My 3rd pet peeve is when some people don't put socks on the doll's feet when putting on a sleeper. 😂😂😂 What a great video
Oh my goodness!!!!! Wow!!!! 😮 I think too that a lot of collectors sell their dolls & have no idea how to do a box opening???? I mean I still packed my dolls up nice when I was just a collector too!
I just got a silicone baby girl yesterday and she was sent with 7 blankets and then the outfits too she was so well protected…

I re-weighted a doll and found the glass beads in ziplock baggies that had popped so the beads were EVERYWHERE. Still vacuuming them up from the area I took that doll apart…

My artist didn't bother it was just the baby in a small box. If I had known she was gonna be like that I would've found someone else.
I know, it feels disheartening like they don’t even care. To me, it makes me wonder if they even cared enough to create the reborn right. Like if you don’t even care about the protection of the doll on the way home or the presentation of the doll, what else don’t you care about? I waited over 8 months for a custom that should have been done in 12 weeks, was totally patient because I didn’t want to rush her on the work & got NOTHING. Not even a thank you for waiting so long. Will never recommend that artist to anyone. She later made a FB post that she didn’t want to have to worry about shopping for, storing & matching up baby items for the dolls. It’s called owning a business & buying supplies. No protection of this silicone either. So upsetting to have an expensive doll, just thrown in a box. No cares. She had her money already. 💔

I didn’t say a word from me artist to another. She had m money for over 8 months in full. It’s like once an artist spend that money & 8 months passes by, it’s like they forget you are a paying customer who gave them 5k of your hard earned money to create a piece of art. They forget you PAID them forever ago!
My baby needs some repair her cloth body is coming apart around the left arm.
And speaking of clothes with stains on them, I apologize for sending you those dresses with little stains on them. I actually thought that I had them all out, but obviously you’re lighting is a lot better than mine lol
Awwwwww it’s no problem I was so grateful for them and it gave me a chance to test out some Oxyclean!!! They are perfect now!!! I had a bunch of outfits from my own collection that I needed to treat so it was perfect timing! I need to do a video on treating vintage clothes and bringing them back to life! 🥰

I’m not a artist, but as a collector I buy clothes for dolls periodically so if and when I do sell them, I at least have somewhat of the box opening, even if it’s a small one and a couple outfits a few diapers, and then a nice blanket that they rocked in

Misty, I love watching your videos although I remain silent it today on your subject I received a reborn Laura, I paid 300 which I thought was reasonable. I was told that she would come in a small box opening, well, the box was in bad shape and upon opening was Laura wrapped in a full size old dungy dirty Afghan, she was wearing and old worn out sleeper also dirty, the only items included was a knitted hat and mits in ugly multi colored yarn. I am so disappointed that I'm finding it hard to fall in love with her.
I am so sorry this is happened to you! This is another good reason why an artist should take the time to give Reborn parents a nice experience when they meet their new baby. It can affect the bond that you have with the doll. Just remember, you can change them into nice clean, cute clothes & blanket. It may take time for the bond, but you might start to notice once you dress baby in some cute clothes & snuggle a bit! 💗
Hi misty, I want to ask how you know the baby Isn’t varnished, I have a baby and the paint on the head is cracked and I don’t know if is because of these
I have the same question. No cracking, but the finish is "rough" feeling. Is that considered a matte finish? My other dolls are more smooth.
It all just depends on what kind of varnish they use as a lot of our paints & mediums have been discontinued and new ones are coming out that we are all trying. Genesis varnish had a more textured feel to it and some of the newer ones come out feeling very silky, soft and smooth. If your doll looks very shiny, chances are that it needs touchup varnish in some areas that have been rubbed off. If the doll comes to you brand new & looking like a very shiny piece of plastic then it has no varnished to begin with.
I wasn’t happy with one of my box opening I paid extra for a better box opening and they were all used clothes and a cheap blanket from Walmart. She charges extra for a premium box opening so I was expecting different. I don’t have a problem with used clothes but if I’m paying extra I would’ve expected at least new clothes
Definitely!!!! If you paid EXTRA for a box opening, everything should be new! I always take all of the tags off my baby clothes & wash them before packing because new collectors don’t know about dye transfer. I wash everything first, also I love how good the box smells when they open it! Some people may think the clothes are not new, but at least they look beautiful & smell amazing!!! 🤩
@@KitstoKradlesNursery yeah I would be ok with that I always wash my clothes before putting them on. You can still tell if they were used or new and just washed. My artist I go to now doesn’t do box openings and I’m fine with that because she’s not super expensive and her babies are so realistic
Some artists are really good about being upfront from the beginning, that they keep their prices low by not including a box opening. A lot of artists will let people know upfront that you are paying for the doll only and they will dress the baby and wrap the baby in a blanket and send a thank you card and the COA. Thank is totally fine and a good option to keep things affordable!

You are sooo helpful. I have been watching box openings and box packing for three years or more and you are absolutely correct on everything! I am saving up for a doll and I am debating on doll artist but I will say you are top on my list. Have you heard of Doves Nursery? I do like her but you have done your homework! I am new at this as well I do have a question. How do you know when a doll is varnished or not? Some of mine look a little different than the others. Money is very hard for me to come up with. I do not have a job and do not get money. It takes me three years to save up $1000.00 I’m not complaining by no means but I want a good doll for my savings if that makes since. I love all the help you give
You can tell if a doll is varnished by the way it feels when you touch it, but also by the fact that it’s not super shiny. Things have changed a bit with our mediums, a lot of our paints and mediums were discontinued so there are a lot of new products out there now. No matter what varnish a artist uses, your doll should not appear super shiny, a soft glow is ideal, but if it looks shiny like plastic, then there is not enough varnish on the doll.
