    Biology - a beautiful field of mathematics where division and multiplication are the same thing. Since we’re doing bad biology jokes, do you know what does DNA stand for? National Dyslexics Association. Enough cringe, let’s get started.

    Reminder of the day: Theory in science doesn't mean possibility, it means the best explanation we got yet. Like gravity. It's a theory but will be instantly disproven if someone starts flying for no reason and we will need a better theory

    • @alexm.2960
      @alexm.2960 Před 4 lety +121

      "...will be instantly disproven if someone starts flying for no reason and we will need a better theory."
      That is a common misconception. The theory of gravity and gravity isn't the same thing. You don't need a flying person to disprove the theory of gravity. In fact, the theory of gravity has been disproven before; Einstein disproved Newton's theory of gravity.
      Now that Newton's theory of gravity has been disproven, we have a new theory of gravity which is the general theory of relativity. But even that seems to be false because of the inconsistencies between quantum physics and general relativity.
      So, technically, our theory of gravity right now is probably false. But false doesn't mean unhelpful. Hell, we still use Newton's mechanics to this day because they are just easier to use and they make good enough predictions.

      If you're talking about this from the perspective of a student, then I disagree that it would have been of much help. I found the over-generalization and absence of certain pieces of information to be misleading. For example, they left out an entire Domain - Archaea (Domain is the tier of classification above/more general than Kingdom). To be fair though, both Archaea and Bacteria don't have any Kingdoms, so a lot of people just say that there're 6 Kingdoms, (explaining the absence of the tier) and a lot of people might think that Bacteria and Archaea are the same, (even though scientists studied them and decided they're so different they deserve to be split into 2 Domains/Kingdoms) explaining the absence of Archaea. Because Biology is a field where details are super important though, I think they definitely should have at least mentioned Archaea, if briefly.

      @@daikon267 I can only speak about Biology A Level in the UK (i thinks its around the same level?) but if you're genuinely interested in it, take it!! There is high subject content, and covered in relatively short periods of time - this can be intimidating, but you can get used to it and eventually you'll thrive!! Ultimately the subject is interesting and if you can see that picture, it'll allow you to do well - just don't beat yourself if it doesn't go well in the beginning.

    Composed of cells(galaxies)homeostasis(relatively stable)- undergo metabolism (chemical process to maintain life within)-have a life cycle(finite universe)-be able to grow(universal expansion)- adapt to the environment and reproduce(universal flux & living organisms within))?
