This is one of the best delivered punchlines of all time.
I remember when this aired only because of how hard my father was laughing. Great to see it again. Thanks for posting.
I saw this the night this aired. Had me on the floor! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The joke itself isn’t a lung buster but the way he told it had me in tears laughing
The delivery was spot on which makes it hilarious.
Yeah, it's the setup and delivery. In the previous joke about the cow and horse, what makes the joke is the expertise the man offers about horns on cows that makes it. It's the distance between the expert and the questioner.
That duck joke was priceless.
Comedy isn’t about telling a joke, it’s about selling a joke - Buddy sure sold me!
He got the chicken joke from President Reagan! President Reagan told it better! Sorry Buddy. Still love you though Buddy!
Was vulgar in Vegas I understand!
It's a farmer story ... LOL
I just watched Reagan tell the 3-legged joke & he is definitely NOT as skilled as Buddy
.
He stole that joke from Super Dave. Check out super Dave
On Letterman
Who's with me, I still love Johnny Carson
I heard buddy hackett doing a routine once and he said..."Johnny Carson is so classy...he steps out of the shower to take a leak" LOL
😂😂🤣
That’s funny!
I heard it as Bob Newhart stepping out of the shower.
😂🤣😆👍
@@Matt531jam1 yea..
I heard Rodney Dangerfield say that about Sir David Niven stepping out of the shower.
🖤💜💙💚 👩🏫 Love Buddy Hackett. Johnny Carson, too. Things sure have changed a lot.
Oh my gosh, Buddy was freaking awesome. God bless him, may he rest in peace.
Johnny Carson and his guests are still getting millions of views. That's some great entertainment.
Um, maybe it's because there's no decent late night show on now. They're just political crap pretending to be late night entertainment.
Uploaded less than a year ago and already 6.8 million views. Enough said...
Late night TV is scraping the bottom of the bucker
@@odieskidmore1914 .."bucker"? lol
Well look at the alternative
I am guessing if CZcams didn’t manipulate the algorithm they will have more views that who ever is doing the tonight show now
I met him once when I was a kid, we were at a resort on a family vacation. Very nice guy, warm and friendly. I was on the flight back home and he happened to be on it too. He stood up and did 15 minutes of impromptu stand up over the airplane PA. Everyone loved him.
Love it.
If he tried that now the marshal would arrest him.
Wow you lucky s.o.b.! I'd love to hear him joking around on the PA for 30 minutes!
Thanks for sharing your memories.
What a wonderful day and age. A great memory.
That is comedy at it's best. Funny!
Wonderful years with comedians like Buddy, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield and others.
My grandfather loved that 3-legged chicken joke.
Aye, so did mine. ☺️
"How do they taste?" "I don't know, we never caught one." Great comeback line.
I love how Hackett glances over while he's rolling on the floor, making sure his foot is in the right position to kick the table over. Truly a master at timing and delivery.
Nice catch and it added to the routine.
Buddy was one of a kind! I loved him!!!
Buddy Hackett was a National Treasure!
Buddy is absolutely
Priceless!
There will never be another show like the
Johnny Carson Show.
As we all used to call it.
Exactly! It was always, who's on Carson? I miss his brilliance.. so many great shows that will.never be duplicated.. Carol Burnett comes to mind.. 💕
I don't care who you put on late night tv, NEVER EVER AGAIN will there be anyone as great as Johnny Carson!!!
Good comedians are always funny no matter how many years go by.
Miss Johnny Carson and the old comedians....they were the real deal ~ ❤
Agreed, They were much better than the over politicized and vulgar ones of today.
RIP Mr Hackett, loved working for you and Sherry for over 30 years. Many thanks, miss you, Biff
i saw this with my dad when i was a kid. years later i told the duck joke in a "storytelling" class at college and it killed. i randomly heard "you can have the duck!" from across campus and it became a legendary inside calling card. why youtube served this up to me now, i can't possibly understand, but i still laughed out loud at the punch line.
AWESOME story! Yes. This is an amazing joke!
Haha I'm sure Buddy would appreciate your story.
A friend and I did "Who's on First" by Abbott and Costello in a high school talent show. It took us 15 minutes to do a 6 minute skit we had the audience laughing so hard.
Ayy thank God for callbacks lol! God bless you all! :D
Sure miss those guys!
Damn, I miss Buddy Hackett. Look at how he sits back with supreme confidence IMMEDIATELY after delivering the duck joke punchline, even before it registers and the people laugh come, he knows he has that audience in the palm of his hand. One of the all time greats, for sure.
Do you remember his stand up concert on Showtime or hbo from 1980.. it's amazing.. it is every bit as cutting edge and hilarious as these "edgy" jokes the big names do on Netflix now.. the bit about getting caught f$cking a fish.. bwahahAha

"Buddy Hackett Tells Farking Ticket Joke" Absolute GOLD.
When you've been telling the same old jokes for 20 years that's how it is.
That's like saying...look at that singer, he's so laid back and delivers that song perfectly..
He's like the comic, simply going through the motions, done it 100s of times before.
Confusing laid back with bored and looking laid back so not as to appear bored
ANS NOT an "F" word heard
Yes. And Carson had the only platform for stories like that.
Classic "Borscht Belt" comic. Impeccable timing and then.. wham! He goes right over the top! One of the great comedians.
I agree with you
Met him at a celebrity ski race at a resort. He needed a ride , jokes all the way there ! He was just like this clip in person , that was in 86 or 87.
@@markabendroth1774 You were extremely lucky to have spent time with him.
Mark Abendroth Was the resort in the Catskills by any chance?
@@billyfulks5587 look at his Wikipedia page. Classic Borscht Belt past.
I saw this the night it aired. I was on the floor. Saw him live in Vegas
Buddy proved...it wasn't how he could make you laugh, but how he told the joke....AND NOBODY WILL FORGET IT. He was a class all his own. The World isn't the same anymore.
Priceless! RIP Buddy and Johnny. I miss them .. and Joan, Rickles and Carlin. RIP all...and thanks for the laughs.
Let's not forget all the times Johnny had Buddy Rich on. Funny stories with some great music AND drumming combined.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
... and don't forget the very best, Rodney Dangerfield!
Sam Kinison and Richard Pryor too. I miss them all. Just not the same today.
Poor Ed always gets left out! RIP CONERAL!
See the class on Buddy Hackett even cleaned up after himself.
🇺🇸 An evening when you wanted to go to sleep early. You still Stayed Up to listen
to Carson
I remember watching this live when I was a kid. It cracked me up then and I’m glad it’s on CZcams now and it still cracks me up.
I think everyone knew what the duck punchline was going to be but that bit before the punchline was worth the price of admission.
That's one of those jokes that you gotta know how to tell it.
@@Pseudowolf Absolutely. It's all in the delivery, and Buddy was a master.
Damn he can tell a joke....that duck joke is priceless...and his physical humor that went with it was perfect
Yes, Buddy was a great comedian. I just love his Pillifino joke.
"A woman walks into a bar with a duck under her arm. A drunk at the bar says 'Hey! Where'd you get that pig?" "That's not a pig," the woman says. "It's a duck." "I know-- I was talking to the duck!" -- Buddy Hackett, 1963
Mannnnn, I remember my Dad laughing his head off at these jokes. Now, it's my turn.
Ha Ha

I think Johnny had tears in his eyes after the last joke! That was brilliant!
back when late-night was about unwinding and having a few laughs.
So true. Now it's all about cultural marxism and mass mind control. TV as a whole is like one big psychological operation. It's a shame what it's become!
I like Conan, especially when he goes out on adventures. Jay Leno was never that funny. All the others aren’t all that funny either. donald trump does give them all the ammo they want though.
You said it. Today's late night T.V. is way too conservative. When I watch it, I wind up more stressed out that I was before I started watching.
@@cyranodeluk cultural Marxism and mass mind control? Please. Trying to sound all erudite and put existential meaning into somewhere it doesn’t belong. You’re probably the relative at dinner who’s all solipsistic about his liberal arts or sociology degree and tries to dominate the conversation with pseudo intellectual inane banter. It’s just late night television man.
@@fezzik7619 Please explain to me how one can be solipsistic about ones liberal arts degree. As Inigo Montoya once said, that word you use, I do not think it means what you think it means.
Johnny Carson was one of a kind, and there will never be anyone who will ever come close. I still miss him.
we’re all one of a kind.
I remember seeing this live and telling my brother this joke, so funny. This brought back memories of my brother who died in 1991. Miss you Ken!
That’s selling a joke at its mastery.
My cousins passing anniversary is 9:15am, about 7 hours from now. I wish he was here so we could laugh at this together. 😢
@@NOTHERE2CODDLEU sorry hope this will make you smile as it did for me. I will think of your cousin today.
@@karenpierson9841 That was so kind, take good care and may you have the best of memories!
@@NOTHERE2CODDLEU thank you
Buddy and Johnny are still 1,000% funnier than the late night hacks we have nowadays! God rest their souls.
Geee- don't you like our Late Night "Hosts" saying our president's mouth is Putins "cock holder"? sarcasm/
TRUE words .....
A fart is 1000 percent funnier than today's late night hosts.
What is funny about a guy being kicked in the groin? Maybe to a sadist. Late Night shows have satire and clever jokes. Buddy Hackett has sh** "jokes" about people in pain that only a sick person would enjoy.
@@CharlieForEve Colbert, Meyer, Fallon and Kimmel are about as funny as a fart in church.
When I was in my mid teens my older brother joined the army and left me his black and white television set which I had never had a TV of my own and I would stay up late and watch Johnny Carson and David Letterman and man you talk about opening my eyes up to a whole New world what great memories thanks Robbie for that wonderful gift
I can watch this 1,000 times. It's as funny each time
How hilarious. "You can have the duck"! I come back to this vid just to see and hear Buddy say the punchline. So great! Times long gone bye...
I haven't watched a full episode of "The Tonight Show" since Johnny Carson hosted. I miss his show.
Do you happen to have SiriusXM? There's a channel (I think it's 105 but I'm not 100% certain) of nothing but Carson episodes.
@@adamnewton3994 No, I don't pay for radio or TV. I have an iPod with 15,000 songs on it. I just hit "random" and go.
Jay Leno was good too.
So you stopped watching after Jack Parr stepped down ?
You can watch him on Antenna TV most evenings. It's free.
Buddy was and will remain one of best comedians that ever lived, 3 funny jokes and not one 4 letter word was used. I watched Carson religiously, that man was on point every single night. I miss those days so much.
Buddy Hackett was well-known for his off-color routine. However, he adjusted his material to fit his audience. What a wonderful comedian.
I do too. Everything has gotten so nasty. You know men never cussed in front of women. That was being very respectful. Miss those days
No respect anywhere any more these days.
Then how many letters do they use to spell 'duck' where you're from? lols
Michelle. Reruns are on again at 10:00pm but don't remember which channel. From Florida
Duck is a four letter word my mother who hated snow used to jokingly tell people snow was a four letter word. Buddy Hacket was definitely one of the best!
My grandfather owned a supper club from the late 50's until '87 in Warwick Rhode Island and Buddy was there all the time. My old man and uncles said he was one of their favorite people because of how good a guy he was with everyone. Rodney Dangerfield on the other hand tried to put the moves on my nana, but she gave him a high heel to the foot. Good times.
Holy Crap! "You can have the Duck!"
Truly a master comedian. One of the all time greats. I miss those days.
Yes so do I
There’s not a talkshow host on the air today that would let any guest get that many words in without trying to insert jokes of their own.
*of his, her or its own. 🧐
Conan used to with Norm MacDonald.
bripro68 that’s the reason I stopped watching Graham Norton on UK tv.
Good point.
In their defense, their guests aren't Buddy Hackett either.
Such comedy is not only priceless, but it is also good for your mental health & the spontaneous laughter erupting from his extremely hilarious "duck joke" & his others is so contagious & addictive that you just can't help laughing to tears right along with everyone else! Buddy Hackett was & still is an all-time true comedian!
I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Buddy Hackett at Ceasar's Tahoe in 1982. The sweetest most humble man you could ever meet. He was with his his wife and son and introduced them to us like were the celebrities. I will forever hold him in the highest regard.
Never in a million years can I picture myself telling that joke. One of a kind.
Exactly. Who else could pull that off?
I think the duck joke anyone could do if they were willing to sell the rolling around on the floor. The first joke tells itself and was just to get people in the mood.
But if you want a real challenge, try getting laughs out of the second joke. Everything hinges just on the delivery of the punch line.
@@eswift8318 You think anyone could tell the duck joke if they are willing to roll around on the floor? That's the point! No one does that!
Oh come on!
Buddy Hackett was the master of making the absurd believable. A true comic genius. Whenever he was a guest on a talk show he got the most laughs.
that may be the cleanest 3 jokes I have ever heard come from Buddy Hackett..
Buddy Hackett is kind of a treasure that I don't think we realized we had until we didn't have him anymore. AND there's NEVER been anyone to replace him. God bless him and Johnny and Ed. May they all rest in peace.
Hello Suzanne, How are you doing?
What really made Hackett so funny was, when we were young we all had an uncle like him, funny looking and endearing ' boy do I wish I could go back to those days.
You can't even practice this level of comedic genius.
If you believe these comedians didn't practice you are a fool...
@@ayokay123 Typical...
I've watched this clip dozens and dozens of times over the years and every single time I laugh with tears in my eyes! Comedy brilliance!!! 😂
Same with the Ed Ames tomahawk throw. Laugh just as hard every time
I've seen this at least 100 times and it's still the best joke ever
My father watched every episode of Carson and i remember Buddy Hackett very well . Right up there with Don Rickles. PRICELESS memories.......
Buddy Hackett was a god of comedians. His sense of delivery and timing was everything, and he was the master. The jokes are ones that maybe you have heard before - but not like Buddy delivered them. They don't make comedians like him anymore. And they don't have late night talk shows like Carson anymore either. The two of them together are just the best ever.
Classic jokes told by one of the classic comedians that appeared on a classic TV show at a much simpler time in the US & the world. What wouldn't I give to go back to that time.
He always reminded me of the uncle you don't invite to Christmas but shows up anyways.

He was absolutely fabulous--effortless!
There is an old video of Buddy Hackett diong blue comedy. One of the funniest stand up acts I've heard. He was a riot.
He also played a really tough bad guy in the old westerns. Now that was a SET UP for a joke....what a treasure. I am 64 now and grew up watching Johnny every night before bed....he actually influenced my personality and enrichened my curiousity for all subjects/// he was cool.

3 gems . Can't believe i never heard any of these . And i watched Carson all the time .
I met Buddy Hackett in Aspen back in the late 80's -- he was just like Buddy Hackett.
@Judy Gaines i was in Aspen for the annual 4th of July fireworks and he walked out of the Jerome Hotel totally lit up -- friendly and funny.
The duck joke was just great, but actually I enjoyed watching Johnny Carson even more...the whole episode, the joke, Buddy, kicking over the coffee table, and Johnny were all hilarious.
Buddy was just HYSTERICAL!!!! Good, clean jokes.....that make you laugh to you cry!!!! LOL !!!!!!
I remember watching this on TV. I literally fell off the sofa laughing.
Ah, the Golden Age of late-night TV! Nothing today even comes close.
And there wasn't 20 minutes of commercials in an hour show.
Ah, yes, 1987...clearly the Golden Age of late night TV.
That's because todays late night TV is taken over by leftists who are only interested in shoving their filthy politics in the viewer's face.
@Judy Gaines Thanks! Today's audience has no clue about real talent. Just cyber-blah-blah.
The delivery was superb, I was crying with laughter!
He knew how to make the whole joke funny, not just the punchline.

Johnny transformed the genre to the point that it can no longer compete at the same level.
