  • In this video I will teach the Sun Style Tai Chi forms Brush Knee, Play the Lute, Parry and Punch, Receive the Tiger and Push the Mountain. This is a series of Sun Style Tai Chi forms that occur in Tai Chi for Arthritis and Sun Style 73 Form. Sun Style Tai Chi was popularized by Dr. Paul Lam and Tai Chi for Health with the Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention Sun Style form set. The higher Tai Chi stance is easier on the knees and lends itself to more Tai Chi accessibility for all ages.
    Sun Style Tai Chi or Tai Chi Chuan or Taiji, builds better balance, helps with arthritis, and is suitable as Tai Chi for Seniors, Tai Chi for Beginners, or any level of Tai Chi players. Sun Style Tai Chi is the newest style of Tai Chi and is around 300 years old. It is characterized by short stepping patterns called the follow step, with quick lithe stepping movements when sped up. A high level Sun Style Tai Chi practitioner can be behind his opponent very quickly with this unique stepping style. Also the follow step means you spend more time in a single leg stance, while lightly supported by the follow step leg. This improves balance and is a great way to prevent falls in the elderly or in any age. Remember any practice of Tai Chi is considered Kung fu. Kung fu simply means a focused practice to develop a high level skill. So get your kung fu on, practice Sun Style Tai Chi and learn these fun forms, Brush Knee, Play the Lute, Parry and Punch, Receive the Tiger and Push the Mountain!

    This is a great video/lesson as are all of yours I have seen. Would it be possible for you to show /teach the complete sun style 13 form from beginning to end in one video? I would love to learn a short chen style but, I am 75 years and would probably do better to get back into tai chi learning the sun style. Thanks for listening and, if you can make it happen, thank you very much.

      Hi Dan. Thank you for the positive comments. In order to teach 13 forms, I would want to break it up into smaller videos. Making videos that help people is my passion! However, it does take a lot of time. For instance, a 14 minute video takes about a total of 8 hours of prepping, editing, etc.
      If you want to email me, I can give you a link to attend my live streaming Sun style class. You can try one for free to see if it is a good fit for you.
      Someone has suggested that I try a go fund me to get funding for me to create a Sun Style course. I am thinking about it, and comments like yours lets me know there is an audience for it. Meanwhile if there is a particular form you are interested in, you can certainly make a request and I will try to create a video to teach it. So far I have created videos for Sun Style Waving Hands in Clouds, a video on the follow step, and this video of brush knee, play the lute, parry and punch.

    You present this material so well. I have attended a few tai chi and qi gong sessions at a local park and senior center, but I am very much a beginner. I would like to follow your clear instructions through a regular guided program at home. Which of your on-line courses would you recommend to me? Is it important for a beginner to make an early choice between Sun style and Yang style?

    • @InternalTaiChi
      @InternalTaiChi  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you for your positive feedback. I would recommend taking either (or both) my Beginner Tai Chi Course or my Easy Qigong course. Both are great for your described needs. They are sequential and teach you some of the key essentials to build upon as well as giving you a nice movement set. The style of Tai Chi is irrelevant. Eventually you will find the style that resonates with you. For me, I do four different styles, but Qigong is my favorite go to. Let me know if I can help you in your journey. You can go to my "about" tab on my YOuTube home page and email me directly if you'd like. Best wishes!

    Hi, your videos are very helpful, thank you so much! I just started attending a weekly class and everyone else in the group has been practicing together for almost two years. I can't see the hand movements in the class and have been stumbling to figure it out, these videos are lifting the vail of mystery!
    Do you have any videos that we can do the segments together? We (roughly, I'm still learning the vocabulary) do passing the ball, single whip, parting the clouds, and then what is in this video. I'd love to follow along if you have a video that has a whole flow/class. Sadly, I'm leaving the area and only have three more sessions with the group. PS love the dogs in your video! Real life conditions and a perk for the dog lovers.

      Thank you for your kind comments about my videos. Your experience, sadly, is not unique in those trying to find and learn Tai Chi. Don't give up! I do have some follow along Tai Chi videos. Most are a different style than Sun Style, but style is the least important aspect of Tai chi. You can go to my playlist of follow along Qigong and Tai Chi (link below).
      I hope you will persist and enjoy your Tai Chi journey. Also I offer live stream classes three times a week. You might want to try that option. Many really enjoy and learn from my teaching in that format as geographic location is a non-issue. Go to my website to learn more about my livestream classes: taichisusan.com Here is the playlist of follow along videos: czcams.com/play/PLH070fotpDAzPtosP0Od5VUiBAllxSWDN.html&si=NhlQAxphdXL9gyXT

By watching your Sun style Tai chi I have found a teacher not too far from where I live who is willing to teach me, happy days😊 I have only ever learnt Yang style and Chi gong Tai chi. Hi Jan, The Sun Style form was created by Sun Lutang. In 1989, Professor Men Hui-Feng created the Sun Style 73 form for competition. What you are seeing in this video are some of the forms from the Sun 73 (73 forms). Remember though, more forms does not mean more benefit. I often only practice two or three forms and go deeper with them. Thanks for your questions and comments!

      Unfortunately Udemy keeps most of the profits. I make very little off of Udemy. Like $2 for a $30 course! If I made a Sun style course, I would sell it on my website instead. Several have asked me to do so. I am in the process of making such a course. Just keep checking my website. TaiChiSusan.com, Thank you for the comments!

      Thank you for watching and for your input. I have had several requests to do a course on Sun Style. When I do, I will put the course on my website. Udemy takes 95% of the profits! So keep an eye on my website under "Online Courses." Thanks for the suggestion!

    Uno dei cinque punti fondamentali del Sun è quello di rimanere sempre su una gamba. Dal video si vede ogni volta che spingi un ritorno indietro, forse sbaglio, e quindi mettere peso indietro

      One wants to create an illusion of double weighted for the opponent but never actually be double weighted. Most of what you are seeing is the illusion or appearance of double weighted. However when a person shifts weight from one foot to the other there is always a transfer of weight like the Tai chi symbol. Never all one or all the other.
      By the Way, I had only been doing Tai chi for two years when this video was recorded.
