I noticed that too in the live footage of Willie Nelson’s performance as well, but it’s all back together by the time the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform.
Pretty weird.

I’m not 100% sure why they did that. My guess would be the fact that it was so hot and the big stage graphics prevented any air flow causing the crowd to be even hotter. By removing it during the day it may have been a bit cooler

did some digging and found out they did this because on saturday night and sunday morning it was raining so they stripped down the tapestry stage design to prevent it from getting damaged by the rain, First time they did it was during metallicas set when the rain got really bad, They also did this on the second stage

@@wastedcentury It's funny how they removed it during the performances to prevent damages but if you watch videos from Monday morning, after the festival was over, it is completely trashed and abandoned
