    Hi Holly and Nancy! I love your channel. I have been a subscriber for a year now. Please don't stop making videos. They are very informative and inspiring for a novice gardener like me. I have a question: after you put the fish in the hole as fertilizer, do you still add additional fertilizer to the vegetable plant throughout its growing season? Thanks a lot. -Anne from Maryland

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for being a loyal subscriber! The fish is usually all I need. However, sometimes if my plants are not off and running it is because the root system has not yet reached the fish. At that point I side dress with bone Meal to promote root growth so they will dig down to the fish. You can tell when the roots reach the fish because your plant will explode with growth

"God bless you and Nancy for sharing such valuable information, the 2 grand-kids are excited about gardening and really want to help grow food and bring it home to their parent's and explain how we grew them! "What is the simplest potted plan't that I can give them to bring home and that they can grow from a container...both grand babies live in apartments..one upstairs with a small balcony apartment and the other grand baby lives downstairs in another town with no yard...both kids would benefit from a container plant that's the easiest to grow..Ages are 5 and 8! Want to keep them interested in home grown/organically grown foods! Preferably organically grown! Any advice would be much appreciated! Will post pics asap...of all our garden production, everything is still at beginners stage here in zone 9a! Thank you so much for watching. It warms my heart to see children involved in gardening at a young age. You are creating memories with them that will last the rest of their lives. I started my first garden with my Daddy when I was 8 years old. Some of my most loving childhood memories are with him in my little garden. Kids love to harvest things from the ground. The most exciting harvest for children is dumping out a tub of potatoes and let them dig through looking for potatoes. Be sure to film it because you will want to watch it over and over. To send something home with them help them plant some Radish seeds. These don't take long or much care. They can watch them grow and pull up the beautiful Radish. Another favorite is cherry tomatoes. You can get some starter plants from your nursery. Be sure to get the dwarf "Patio" type. Plant them in a small container. Looking forward to seeing the pix❤️❤️❤️

      Too much Nitrogen. Next time you plant it for the fall, plant it 30 days earlier than you have been planting it and do not fertilize it at all

      I have never had a maggot problem in the 56 years I have been using this method. To avoid maggots you need to use the lime and pack it tight at least 9” deep.
