Whelp, I broke my Honda Element hood latch pull this winter and I've been needing to fix it for a while. Finally today I got outside and got it done and documented it so that you will have confidence doing this repair yourself. I would say it is DIY friendly as it very easy to replace. The hardest part is getting the old black rubber part off but you might be able to just use a pair of pliers and twist and pull it off.

There is no need to cut anything ,.if you actually know what you are doing. This is known as a hack job. Literally.
