    Great tip for a temporary fix. Ultimately you'd want to remove, disassemble, clean, and lubricate the assembly, but thats dependent on how much time you want to spend on the solution. Nice work!

      Thank you for the comment . Yes disassembling can be better but sometimes it can be a pain on some vehicles and most people won’t have the patience for it when the quick fix works.

    wish I would have seen this video sooner. my hood literally popped open and smashed my windshield and completely obstructed my view while I was going 70mph on the PA turnpike, and I think this is the exact reason why lol

      @Motorcarnut  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Oh man, bet that was scary, glad you OK. Thanks for the feedback. All vehicles have a 2 step lock catch before hood opens, yours both are probably stuck and need to be oiled.

      I have the exact same problem 😂but I haven’t had my hood fly back yet and I’m scared every time I get on the highway cause honestly it should of been flew open and smashed the windshield already 😅

      @mannycolon5458 there is a 2 step safety catch but just oil it like a said

      If you wish you had seen this video prior then that means you were aware of the fact your hood wasn't staying fully closed, with that in mind why would you think it would be ok to drive 70mph. Idk what year or make of vehicle you have but my 2015 will constantly beep if any doors the hood or the trunk are open as soon as I start moving and won't stop beeping until I'm at a full stop. If the hood isn't totally latching that leaves a gap where air can flow in and, well you know the resr

      @@anthonybadagliacco4807 my hood was fully closed when it happened. in the two years that I've had the car, it popped up twice, but was caught by the secondary latch, allowing me to pull over safely and close it. this time, the secondary latch completely failed. some people can't afford to completely halt their lives for every tiny little inconvenience that comes their way. we gamble on which problems can be ignored and dealt with later, and which problems require more immediate attention. sometimes we lose those gambles. this is one of those times.

    Hello i had same problem, but now the bonnet opening light does not work when the bonnet is open, should i try WD 40 on contacts?

    • @Motorcarnut

      No, I would try some electrical cleaner. Local auto parts stores should have it.

    Mines the opposite. So the latch attaches but the actually mechanism on the hood catch doesnt allow the bonnet to fully close it just springs back up...🤨

    • @Motorcarnut

      @@Motorcarnut Yea its a strange 1. Before it was where the bonnet was coming up partly whilst driving. I took the latch out to put wd40 on it, but now ive got the opposite problem where it wont close. Think ive pulled the wire or something? When i push the clip down inside the lock manually, it pops back up when i pull the release lever in the car

      I fixed it today, inside the hood I moved the cable forward from the teeth latch, it seems that it was stuck open and needed to be moved Forward so it could lock again, I moved it with a screwdriver, took me a day and a half to figure out it was that. 😂 What a pain

      @Motorcarnut  Před 9 měsíci

      No luck? Could be the cable that’s sticking. See if you can remove it and try spraying some oil in it and work it back and forth.
