    Enjoy all of these videos! Especially these that focus on the engines! BTW, this may sound harsh, but after watching some videos on maintenance and upkeep, I feel blessed not owning one of these!!!

    Learning a lot. CAT dealer everywhere sounds smart. I'm studying GB 32 possibilities. Don't know much about trawlers. Lifelong sailor. Friend of mine OVDW bought a GB 32 and refit it.

    II know a bit about Diesel engines and I know you will never get a 120 HP engine increase to 300 hp adding a turbo,, Lehman built at least four different engines based on the Ford 6 cylinder block- normally aspirated engines of 120 and 135 hp, a turbocharged but not aftercooled one of 165 hp and an after cooled one of 200 hp.

    That D-series is 120hp at 2450rpm 380cubic inch
    Next step is just turbo-charged 150hp at 2450rpm 360/363cubic inch
    Then its turbocharged and intercooled which is 180hp at 2450rpm 360/363 cubic inch
    Then its the best of all D-series the 2704ET-Turbo plus 250hp at 2450rpm
    After that they did a 275hp engine
    Following that is the Ford Dover which goes from 135hp NA up to 375hp turbo and twin intercoolers. There is another step up after that with a bigger engine up to 425hp.

    • @matui6983
      @matui6983 Před 11 měsíci

      And there is only one engine in NA or Turbo/turbo intercooled and thats a Gardner. Capable of anything up to 70,000 hours plus between major overhauls and the fuel economy is outstanding.

    My Cummins 5.9s from 1988 don’t have aftercoolers, and I’m glad! Aftercoolers can be dangerous if not properly maintained, since an internal leak will put salt water into your air intake… wiped out engine.

    Thank you Captain Paul, next to corrosion, heat is the next most destructive energy a boat engine can suffer, your advice on cooling is unsurpassed - some new owners buy a boat that has never been on a long haul or run above 2 to 3k RPM and then the heat exchanger, raw water, engine water pump fails - that’s when buyers remorse sets in - maintenance is key Regards and thank you

    Paul I’m on the last 300 miles of the great loop in Georgian Bay. I’ve run my single 120 16-1800 the entire way. Rarely I run 2000. Is it normal to run to 2450?

    So you are coming up to 6K hours, isn't that kind of high? How long will they go before rebuild?
    I don't see the point of two engines. There are thousands of trawlers the same size as yours with only one.
    Last, have you looked into the new props, torroidal prop. Are way more efficient and burn one third less on fuel. They would pay for themselves in one season.

    • @NoRegretsLifestyle
      @NoRegretsLifestyle  Před 5 měsíci

      On N/A engines they can go 20k between rebuilds it’s all in how they were taken care of.

    How do you get $300 per engine for an oil change, you say oil, additive, there is only one filter. Racor? Racor is a fuel filter, you don’t change your fuel filters every 250 hours do you? Why, dirty tanks? And transmission fluid, that should not need changing every 250 hours, maybe 1000. You are overdoing it!

    Diesel vs. twin diesel trawler. Which one would you buy for the loop. I like the additional engine redundancy, but I am looking at the price of fuel as well. I also want to know if you know of any training I can get here locally in So. Florida. Thank you for your videos!

    • @NoRegretsLifestyle
      @NoRegretsLifestyle  Před 11 měsíci

      I am open for training, as far as single versus twin. Very hard question to answer, I am not afraid of a well maintained single engine trawler, but they are much tougher to handle. If you train with me we go over all of it. But I would teach you on twin engine boat.
