I love that Ford F450, it is King!
JB i have 6000 miles on my h.o. F450 xlt, i can tell you i don’t even notice the 2000 rpm on the highway, the laminated sound proof windshield, is crazy quiet,
The plus is i rarely get regens, that dpf filter is always getting more flow and heat, using very little def too,
Of course that was not the case for the first 3000 miles, it was running rich and jugling def like a sailor😂
My f350 makes 25 mpg just the truck. With egr delete and a tune. With a 3.55 dana m275 differential. That f450 mpg efficiency are crazy
No one is buying a f450 to worry about the mileage…. They but it for the towing capacity, the commercial undercarriage larger commercial rims and leather brakes, and the wider front end for tighter turning radius
JB, when you insure it. Give the insurance company the VIN and/or picture to show it’s a pickup for personal use. By default they try and force you into a commercial policy as it’s in the system as a cab & chasis. That will lower insurance significantly. Unless you are using it for commercial use.
Not true.
The turn radius with that wide-track front end is just crazy. It would be tempting to get the F450 over the F350 just for that. You're stuck with the 4.30 gears, though, so fuel economy is gonna take a bit of a hit. And I believe Ford keeps the rated GVWR at 14K for the F450 to keep it as class-3 vehicle. Any more than that and it becomes a class-4 vehicle with different regulations and requirements. I think switching out those hard G-rated tires for something more comfortable would really make this truck more liveable. The only question then is whether or not the TPMS system would be permanently yelling at you. I had E-rated BFGs on my Ram 1500 for a while, but they rode really hard. I suspect they would be perfect on a heavier truck like the F450. Beautiful truck. Really like the King Ranch, particularly because it's SO much different than any of the other packages.
no tpms on f-450
If you swap the 225/70R19.5 to 265/70R19.5 and the 19.5x6 wheels to 19.5x6.75 you get more sidewall and a slightly softer ride. The downside is that most 265/70R19.5s have a lower speed rating than the OEM tires.
Damn, that engine looks like it has a million moving parts. Wow.
Yep. Exactly as all 4 stroke engines have for the last 3 or 4 decades.
One thing I think people miss about the F450 is that it doesn't offer the max towing nor payload of the Super Duty line, but it is superior in overall towing "ease" and especially maneuverability.
This truck is not for the poseurs out there. G-rated tires habe multi-ply layers that are designed to carry monster-level loads, so if you're not putting that truck to work often, the ride will be terrible at stock level. There are tricks that you can do like carrying 500lbs consistently in the empty bed, and of course Kelderman makes an amazing high-capacity air ride system that smoothes things out plus helps with load leveling.
This is still an amazing factory-built commercial rig for the regular Joe who wants that wide-track front axle that makes towing a long 5th-wheel a breeze. I went with a '23 Ram 4500 w/ upfitter bed just due to my overall familiarity with all things Cummins(I do my own maintenance), plus I could not locate an F450 within 1000 miles that was being sold at MSRP in the trim that I wanted.
I think you’re mistaken somewhat on the f450 towing. At least the pickup version does get you the highest tow rating with ford. I’m not sure about the payload. I know with ram the 3500 pickup has better towing vs the 4500 cab & chassis. But Ford has positioned the f450 “pickup” to compete against ram & gm’s 3500’s in the towing wars.
@@jeffs2809 yes, specific trims and low-optioned trucks will be the best at towing.
It seems to me in my 2023 350drw when in tow/haul mode the exhaust brake seems to work very well!
Love the vids! What rides better? 23 ram 3500 DRW with factory air, 23 F350 DRW, or 23 F450? Thanks 🙏
Hy jb, I've been following your reviews closely. They're informative. Your aggressive detailed analysis has attracted attention from guys like me who come from right hand drive countries. Been thinking of importing those american work horses. You might wanna consider reviewing right hand conversations too, just for an adent follower like me. Who knows, I might contact Larry h miller soon courtesy of your good marketing.
I’ve always thought that black on gold color combo is really sharp. I’ve never owned a black vehicle though
Wide track front end is the best feature. They should return the option of that wide axle to the F350. Then you could have a better riding dually that turns sharp. F350 XL wide track dually 7.3 gas would be awesome. Also what is wrong with them for still not having plenty of F450s available? They've been short on supply for so many years and if you find one its marked way up to crazy town.
I can't believe that truck is that fast.
This did 0-60 in 8.7 seconds. I saw the less powerful 475 HP / 1050 LB-FT version do 0-60 in 6.8 seconds. This should be in the low 6 second range, not high 8's... Unless this was tested over a mile above sea level? This looked like it took off in second gear.
Damn that's fast for a dually.
It’s does show tire pressure to screens one you have to be parked another scroll through gauges on dash
I had a ‘17 450 KR, the big deal is the turning radius, you can change the gears in a 450 to whatever you want, you can’t put a wide track front end in a 350.
After owning a 450, I don’t know how they’re even selling 350 dually’s?
The F450 is an incredible well engineered truck. KR is nice, but for slightly more money, you can get Platinum with projector led and led taillights/led plate lights. Plus you can get the Carmelo interior seats with Platinum
I agree. In some cases, the Platinum may be the same price or less due to the standard equipment on the Platinum grade truck. The King Ranch seems to be just an interior spec truck. For some reason, Ford doesn't consider it a luxury grade like Ram does on the Longhorn Limited.
platinum leather is nowhere near the same quality as king ranch
Hi JB. I am getting a 2024 F450. My question is: do you know how they balance wheels on the F450? Do they use Centramatic?
2 things, when you don’t run 19.5 wheels and tires you immediately loose payload capacity. The sidewalls are so stiff you’ll
Notice a “darting” from the ruts beat into the road. Very common on 450s and up.
Test drove 5 `23 superdutys 2 thru 550, TRANS WHINED in all 5. DIESEL & GASOLINE
The gearing is offset by the size of the tires.
My insurance, state farm, treats any 1- ton truck at the same expensive commercial rate, regardless if it's an f-350 SRW SB, or this F-450. Unless you get a 3/4 ton, it will be high through SF in my PNW state.
I don’t notice the difference from regular 6.7 5p the high output I own both
Would they sell a ordered 2024 ford f350 h.o. diesel king ranch single rear wheel at invoice
I would add some super singles in the rear,👌👌😎😎
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Then you gotta sit on the side with a blowout
@speterbilt
I know but it would look cool,😂
I had 17 and 20
Waiting on see 25
Ins not bad on 450
State Fram will
Not all ins comp.ins a 450
So check on your ins that u have now u know.....
T K. JB.
Nice of course but I wonder why the customer backed out?
Because $120k
Woo-hoo, 1st to comment.
I'd have to have fuel rebate before I could afford to drive it. $8 every 8 miles if you're towing in California.
350 dually with a 4.10 equates to pretty much the same as 450 with 4.30 because of the wheel size. You don’t tow as much go to the 350 with 3.55. I’d love to have the tighter turning but my 350 with 4.10 has a 6100lb payload so technically on paper my 350 will out do a 450. Both have a 14k GVWR but the 450 weighs a lot more.
The 450 has a totally different front and rear axle. Not it’s not basically the same thing. Not even close really.
What happens if you put 22.5” Alcoa’s?
Detuned Gvwr? I wondered why it was 14000 and not higher?
Because it's a Class III truck and capped at 14k GVWR. You want more, you need to go class IV or higher.
Keep in mind that engine isn't broken in yet. Diesel needs about 15,000 to get broke in. After that you should see close to 18- 20 mpg.
Not with 4.30 gears and dually. F250 diesels don’t average that, and this has way more aggressive gearing, weighs over 1,000 pounds more and has way more rolling resistance with the duallies. Maybe 18 on a short highway trip at 60mph.
@@cliffordmontana4562 I know guys that get 18 to 20 empty with a 3/4 and 1 ton diesel regularly.
Would u trade ur Chevy dually for that???
Yep
Sure would without question
Plus 20K
Without a doubt
No, the amount of issues the new Fords are having it will be in the shop more than on the road. The amount of coolant lines running across the top of the motor is embarrassing and will all leak in 5 years. F450 has embarrassing payload and rear axle rating, horrible ride, wandering front end, CP4 fuel pump, crazy DEF consumption and constant regens all for $100k 😂
Disappointing payload. A f350xl 4x4 crew cab gasser 6.8 with SRW has the same payload. My old f350xl 4x4 6.7 dually had a 5546 lb payload. My current f350xl 4x4 crew cab 6.7 with SRW is 4470 payload.
Disappointing you don't understand how weight and GVWR relates to payload.
13:21 too bad you can’t read a sticker.
@@Kwikrnu
Too bad you don't understand what an underrated truck is for DOT and insurance purposes.
It has the same GVWR as all the other trucks in its class, yet has 19.5" G rated tires, thicker axle shafts and larger brakes.
Keep being disappointed over a couple hundred pounds of artificially lower payload... (and it's not because of the emissions equipment)
@@johnpeters9793 horrible payload and it has on board scales that track your every move 👎
@@Billybob50119
5000 pounds is hardly horrible....and mine doesn't have that option.
Next baseless rant..
(Green is not a good color on you..)

I’ll put $1000 that it does show the tire pressure. 100k CAD truck. Come on now.
Nope. There is no TPMS on the 450 and you can't get a F450 KR for $100k CDN. The MSRP on the one I have ordered (almost 2 years now) is $100k USD.
@@rich7447 my apologies. $130k+ CAD truck. That’s crazy.
@@jonshap6163 It is. What is worse is that any 2023 or 2024 F450 above Lariat trim that appears on most dealer's lots get a big mark up thrown on top. The local Ford dealer in Maryland has 2 F450 Platinums with $8000 mark up (down from $20,000 above MSRP 6 months ago).
