While "Bestie" is a departure from their usual high energy hard rock sound, the song shows their versatility and musical professionalism. The song is a collaboration with Mike Einzinger of Incubus, Mike composed the song and gave the band input into the sonic tone of the song. The Maids, in their own way, turned this laid-back Cali power ballad into a classic that, I hope, should get a lot of radio air-play in the U.S. Miku wrote the lyrics in English as a heartfelt tribute to her bandmates (her besties". If you can look at the lyrics, the love the Maids have for each other is apparent. Mohammed Ali once said, "Anyone who doesn't understand the meaning of friendship, understands nothing." Well said!
Miku is a lyrical genius! "The best things are always in your heart." What a line! That line always brings a smile to my face (and a happy tear to my eye).
This was a collaboration with Mike Einziger from Incubus. They are playing a concert with Incubus in May. Hopefully they will record a live video of this song at the show. Enjoy your reactions Jynger!

I love MISA's playing. Her bass tone is setting a new standard... and Akane's drumming is so distinguishable... and Kanami's solo... ahhhh! The recording and mix is good, too! Miku's lyrics are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Saiki her bestie? But Saiki masterfully delivers her lyrics, as always. BTW - The volume of lyrics and nuanced melodies she's committed to memory over the years is simply mind-blowing!
Mikey-san did good at giving them his direction for the song, and probably helped with the English lyrics -- a good growth for Miku's craft. I don't understand why Kanami said she couldn't have come up with the main riff. Probably just her being super polite, as usual.
I like the groove and feel of the song. I was waiting for, "I don't give a f**k" at the end. But maybe with these particular "Bestie" lyrics, that wouldn't be such a good idea. Even though at first listen it felt on par with Start Over, it will undoubtedly do what every Band-Maid song does -- grow on you! Got to break through to the mainstream market with a few cuts, right? I'm not sure that this song is getting the same recognition as their other songs but I like it's great listening to Saiki singing in English. I'm a little obsessed with her so it makes me happy.
