    Olamide is pronounced Olah-medeh

When I saw the notification that Steve did a review on Omo by Reminisce ft Olamide; I was like 'Omo!!!x200 😳' cos the song was done in Yoruba. Seeing that Ycee's cover is the reason calm my nerves.
Well, a lot of rappers in 🇳🇬 jumped on the track when it dropped cos it has a cool laid back tune and Reminisce spoke about the tense situation in the country which has left the citizens in the state of 'omo' (awe, shock, disbelief etc) at the time it dropped.
Ycee killed the cover, his pen game was dope and it was enjoyable like the original. The only down part the track had was the length of the song (it was too short 😭)

Yo, good morning Steve... This two, Reminisce and Olamide are like ogs of the game in Nigeria hip hop, expecially Olamide. They have been giving alotta shoutouts in songs you've reacted to, I guess you wouldn't know. The only reason their songs ain't requested is cause of language barrier, they rap mainly in local language... Olamide is a beast, he's worship here. It's a bit sad it will be very difficult for you to dive into his music

    Thanks for always Steve,
    Here are a few pointers:
    - Olamide further pushed Ycee mainstream when he got featured on Ycee’s biggest hit (Jagaban) in 2016
    - Olamide is the most influential Nigerian rapper till date (followed closely by MI Abaga and maybe mode9)
    - Reminisce is an amazing lyricist (mentor to Olamide) who started out rapping in English but switched to the Local Yoruba dialect.

    omo has an hydra-headed meaning...
could mean babe, baby, shawty, child, dawg, dude, homie, fam.... etc

  • @seryxme
    @seryxme Před 2 lety +1

Omo is Yoruba language literally translated to 'child' or 'baby' (which is why it's also used to mean 'babe' in reference to ladies). But then, like most languages, context could change the meaning of a word. In this particular context, 'omo' is an exclamation to show surprise or shock especially at something unbelievable.

    Omo means a lot..
    Omo can be a child
Or an exclamation in distress .
Imagine if a person took a flight to another state. Just to remember leaving someone he needed to survive the journey. In such situation you'll say OMO.
Or you just watched two F1 speed racers crash. You'll say OMO.
And I think the OMO here is about how terribly the government has been. So the situation he's found himself in this country. He'll say OMO.

What I am trying to say is that I'm not happy with the low views. Can you please do more of what we desire. Maybe once a week?

The decline is views has to do with my inconsistent uploading when I got sick and then hospitalized over. 2-4 week period not because of the content. That being said if I was concerned about views I wouldn't do international music at all id just do Eminem and kpop reactions like the other channels lol
