I gotta say this is one of the best videos I’ve seen so far explaining the kinetic chain on the one handed backhand. Excellent video Kevin!!
Wow, thanks! I've think not understanding how to use your body on the one-handed backhand is one of the biggest issues most players face.
You might be best CZcams coach actually
Now, this is what I call a tennis lesson.
This gentleman knows his stuff! 10/10
Yes I agreed with others that this probably is the best explanation of the single handed backhand in action. One thing I'd like to add is through out the swing, the arm should remain straight and relaxed, start breathing out as soon as the racket drop started. Oh I love those one handed down the line... ^^
Amazing explanation. It's after watching this video a couple of years ago that I really started to hit my one-handed backhand much better.
This is best video on backhand....I am just started to polish my backhand & I wanted to take the 1st step right by watching best video with out creating any confusion......this is the best video and I am just following this video as it covers all aspects & I don't want to confuse myself watching more videos on single handed backhand.
Good to see you Kevin, I missed you since Essential tennis. I hope you and your wife are doing fine in your new club.
Take care 👍👍👍
Good drill for level up backhand
Terrific explanation of how to apply the kinetic chain.
Kevin is very thorough on the science and techinique of his instructions! A gem of a teacher!
I love your video so much Kevin. You are one of the greatest teacher I even seen
Great teacher and easy to understand concepts.
i am watching many videos of you. i am very thankful, you are helping me a lot, and you are the best at youtube. thanks from Turkey..
I did not know your channel and they are by far the best explained videos I have ever seen, awesome Kevin, Regards fron Spain
Hi Kevin, after watching this video, my backhand is even better, I now under stand the kinetic chain, many thanks.
You explain so well, the best I've seen thank you bro
This is perfect for me. I have been getting a little more consistent with my one hander and I want to develop power now.
Great video, but just want to add one more essential element of the swing: The reversal of the shoulder and hip tilt.
It is right there when you take your full swings, but is left out in your progressions.
Lifting the racquet high in the backswing creates a shoulder tilt, such that your hitting shoulder is higher than your front shoulder. Your hips are tilted as well, as your body assumes a "C shape" with the side of your upper body tilted into the court.
This shoulder/hip tilt, C shape does 5 things:
1. Loads the body with more potential power, as reversing the shoulder/hip tilt involves large body muscles that can power the stroke.
2. Will let you take your racquet through a longer path, building speed along the way.
3. Helps drive your hitting hand straight down into the slot position.
4. As the shoulder/hip tilt is reversed 1 /2 way tthrough the stroke, it helps you direct the butt of the racquet up and at the ball.
5. Allows you to look over your non-hitting shoulder for a really good look at the ball.
So again, great video.
But I would add in a fourth element to your progression of the shot: starting with a high racquet takeback and pronounced shoulder/hip tilt to provide that initial burst of speed as the racquet drops, and a continued increase in speed as the reversal of the C shape of the big body muscles helps power the shot.
This is adding a body movement in a whole different plane/dimentson than the coiling/uncoiling motion that you correctly emphasize as the biggest source of power in the 1HBH (and indeed all shots).
[This reversal of the shoulder/hip tilt (or C shape of the body) is emphasized in the serve but is there in the backhand (1 and 2 hand), and the forehand as well.]
The videos you present are always great. So this is as well! Many thanks! I hope I can convert it in my next match! 😅
Crystal clear. Thanks 🇫🇷
As a fellow tennis coach this is a fantastic explanation of kinetic chain for the one handed backhand! Great video 👍
Much appreciated!
By far the best OHBH video on the internet
Phenomenal work really!
thanks - slot position and turning the hip really releases the power.
Awesome instruction! Thank you.
I'm pretty sure I'm guilty of doing it wrong. This will definitely help. Kevin rules!!!🎾
The best instructions on one handed backhand. Well done Kevin
Thanks Huang!
Great explanation! I like your analogy of “coiling” and transitioning potential stored energy into kinetic, everything has to coordinate, timing is everything.
Kevin is my new coach.
This guy is one of the very best coaches on the web. I hv been watches for years; even though I played , I used a lot of his videos to coach my son through out his junior years who now plays D1 tennis. Thank you Coach.
1HBH Unite! Cheers from Brazil!
Thank you very much you are great for everyone just dance professional very easy fast but it's unbelievable understandable things again
Finally! Ever since your “backhand on the run” video from a few years ago, I knew you were the real deal. I myself started using the one hander pretty early, my teacher did show me the two-handed when I started, but I couldn`t actually touch the ball with it, so it was a one-hander by default. Today I think I have a pretty solid backhand, but, you know, there`s always more to be learned, so I watch youtube videos from time to time, and I have to say, you`re showing a very different (and in some ways superior) backhand than they do. I was really happy to see someone teaching it the way you did, it might not have taught me a secret I didn`t knew, but it will definitely be a game changer for some people.
By the way, when I was starting tennis and learning the timing of the ball, I started my backhand swing low, just as you said in your video. I call it the Samurai position, and it does indeed produce some surprisingly high amount of pace. When I developed a good notion of the contact position and timing, my preparation naturally shifted up. So, if you`re learning, don`t be ashamed or afraid to do the Samurai, just remember to focus on this video`s technique.
Fantastic instruction video. Thanks!
Great insights, good teaching Kevin! 👍
Great!!
Enjoyed this video a lot! Excellent progression, one thing leading to another, thoroughly explained. So easy to go out and practice. Well done Kevin!!
Wonderful tip!
Great tip about the hammer action, thanks!
Well demonstrated and clear .
thanks Kevin
Great, thanks!
One of the best explanations and drills!!!!
Great video! Thanks 😊
Great instruction.
Fantastic video. Thanks!
this is some top tier educational content right here. thanks man!
Great helpful video. Thank you.
Excellent Video!!!!!!
This is what I need, great explanation, thank you
Very nice breakdown of the backhand stroke. I used to have a two-handed backhand and it was one of my best shots. I later switched to a one-handed backhand. It took time (losing matches) to be confident with it, but it paid off in the end. What was key for me is when Ivan Lendl mentioned in his book that in boxing..hitting a fighter with a backhanded punch is illegal because it is so powerful. I don't know how true that statement is, but it made sense to me like how you mentioned coiling your body before making contact.
Excellent !!! The best explanation of the one handed back hand.
Great video. Will try it and let you know
Wow - thanks Kevin - you break this down nicely.. Thanks
Great tips and video. Thanks.
Ive seen lots of videos on youtube but the way this guy explain things is something else man, nice tutor for sure!
and now I see many people said the same thing :D great job
I'm going to keep rewatching this video until I improve my backhand, really great and informative video!
Clear. Concise. Complete instructions on powering up the one handed backhand. I will definitely keep your technique in mind. Thank you!
Great video. Check spelling on "turning" the knee
Thanks for the lesson! :)
Absolutely marvellous and great way to explain the body separation for torque and release. Many thanks and continue the super work. Cheers
Best video of backhand i've ever seen, i really appreciate, thank you very much, greetings from Buenos Aires
Game changer!
Methodically and demonstratively explained. My fullest respect to you sir .
`Class tutorial !!
Wow......this is alot like golf
This is an awesome lesson. The first lesson emphasising use of body dynamics to generate power in a step by step process. This lesson, along with the five drills on the backhand video have best explained how to hit a single handed backhand. I have much more confidence in being able to play aggressively on this wing whereas before, I tended to play as a neutral/defensive shot. Way to go, Kevin. Many thanks. 😊
this is so useful
Brilliant
Excellent video & very simple to apply on the court. I've made a tremondous improvement thanks to your instructions.
Wow it is working for me thanks
the grip and contact point !
Arm fully extended and eastern backhand grip. Great question, thanks!
Love your videos, keep it going
Gracias hermano, lo intentaré!! Saludos de Mex
I will tr this on Saturday when i play next time ! Thank you
Thank you, Coach Kevin. Excellent explanation and very helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it, Mark!
Thank you so much I really needed this 👌🎾
You are so welcome, thanks Jazib!
Hey Kevin, Good to see you again. My single handed BH is proving to be stronger than my FH, thanks to you. Effortless. I'll try a little turn the knee to trigger a bit more head speed!
Brilliant! Thank you so much! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@TotalTennisDomination do you think switching to a 1 hand backhand gives as much power as the 2 hand backhand also how do I handle high balls with the 1 hand backhand and also can you hit balls down the line easier with the 1 hand backhand 😎🎾
Great video Kevin. I wish someone told me this 10 years ago! Great job.
You are a master teaching tennis.. I like the physics explanation of the game.. Thanks.
Wow that tip on racket slot position is a game changer.
Which one is that? The hammer?
You can also use a freesbie it's the same motion
Kevin, great lesson, your explanation of kinetic chain is done on a way I absolutely get it, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful Jim! I want things to be a simple as possible.
Turning the knee is a great tip on generating power. It is basically the same as internally rotating left hip but I like your focus on the knee better and it is reducing stress on my left knee which lacks an ACL. Thank you for this excellent instruction!
Kevin - your videos are a class in their own. Simply superb!
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate hearing that.
Very very good and simple explanation of this. Well done sir
This is really good actually. I subscribe. 👌 Thank you Sr.
Fantastic. Thank you Kevin! Shout out to Milwaukee if that’s where you are!
Such a great video!
Thank you!!
You are too good.
This is awesome! I did some shadow swings in my living room starting with the takeback high, dropping the racquet lower while starting to shift my weight toward the front foot, then turning the hips and starting the forward swing, and swinging through with a free/loose follow through.
You make the sequence, the unwinding of the coiling, and all the aspects of the swing all come together in a simple, understandable, and racquet head-accelerating whole. Thanks!
I understand the coiling where shoulders are rotated away more than the hips. But don't understand the uncoiling. Do the shoulders and hips uncool together? Or do the hips uncoil first with shoulders slightly lagging?
Great tips! well done video. Very educational. Good job!
Thanks so much!
Top coach!
Thanks for the solid support. You're a regular.
Justo lo que le enseñó a mis alumnos 👌🏼
Is there a video on the backhand service return?
Excellent Video my friend. You are my Guru!
Wow, thanks Prasad!
Love it
Thanks Dennis!
Great video, thanks.
I still can't figure out the racquet drop correct movement: is it done with or without the other (non dominant) hand still holding the raquet?
In other words, when exactly does the non dominant hand get off the raquet?
Great video. I have always had a one-handed backhand, but cannot hit with anything larger than 97sq. inches. Your racquet head size is huge, can I ask what tension you string at to get a firmer and reduced sweetspot. Looking forward to future videos from you!
Great one Handed BH tips. 👍🙏
Thanks 👍
MC hammer time!
Kevin, excellent lesson. I also think that shifting your weight from the back leg to front leg is another key ingredient to power. If you have the time to do this you can create a much heavier ball. Thanks.
Absolutely Wally! Their are more elements but I wanted to focus on the 20% that I though would give players 80% of the results. Thanks for watching.
