In the earlier days he (and other franco-belgian comic artists) would scan the inks and reprint them in a light blue or grey, color that page with gouache, watercolor, acrylic ink etc., then they would overlay a clear sheet that contained the ink layer and scan the two together to make the final page. It made for very smooth and beautiful color that almost had a digital feel. I believe he used that method for a long time because I have the Blueberry series and lately I've been scrutinizing the later volumes in attempt to figure out when he transitioned to digital coloring. I think Edena might be computer colored.

asds yes I have a book that explains this procedure. Book is a big word for it, more a comic size explanation.

There is something special about the French visual artists when it comes to their comprehension of graphical design and read, Moebius was quite difficult for me to like in the beginning then later almost all the artists whom I looked upto found him to be their inspiration now I can see the genius of his work although the metaphysical -spiritual -psychedelic style still causes me to be somewhat hesitant in embracing him fully. The thing I want from him would be the Jodorowsky Dune storyboards I wish it could be made available to the public.
Before Gigers work at Alien he was working under Jodorowsky with a hand picked creative team that included Moebius and Chris Foss which after it got canned migrated to Alien. And congratulations on the penciling gig, looking forward to see the results.

After 2000 he went digital for the most part but as for the hand color, I know at least some if it is doc Martin dyes, but I'm sure he had his hand in watercolor. He did tend to use what looks like white color pencil to do the highlights.

thanks. Yeah it's really cool. Obviously the hard work is to come...but also the rewarding part is seeing the art in print and being able to share it.

Little dialogue???? Because a picture is worth a thousand words! It also allows future generations to tell the story the way they see it. Thereby becoming timeless.

Man, I have that Winsor McCay little Nemo in slumberland book, or maybe it’s a different one than what you’re talking about but I’ve had it for years and the stuff he was doing way back then was amazing!

it's like an artist edition...so way oversized, scans off the original art...so black and white but shot in full RGB so the files look like an original art board. I have the Little Nemo book...this is that material but a really deluxe version of it.

Back in 2001 or 2002 there was a moebius/Giroud website an in there videos of him painting Blueberry. The would draw and ink the album. Then Blue photocopies of the line art would be used to paint the pages with something that used to look like gouache. And There was the black line art in acetate, so he could place it on top of the blue lines that he was painting so he could check if it was correct. Most the flat color looks like gouache. But colors on edena illustrations looks like mixed media and there are some liquid water colors in there, with colored pencils and a texture that he used to do to the walls that is still a mystery to me how he would do it. That was before A3 printers like we can find today.

I don't know if it's what he used in these pieces, but there are photos of him in his studio coloring with Speedry Magic Color Liquid Acrylic Inks.

His wife was his manager and gate-keeper, the reason we don't have any Blueberry reprints in the US in English is because of her! He has children and they must be all grown up by now.

I have been wondering about his color techniques also, I thought maybe some inks were used, I know you can erase certain inks with bleach. Total mystery. Also, my “ world of Edena” is a lot different & doesn’t have nearly the amount of epic drawings.
