Immersed is the best virtual desktop experience on both Quest 3 and AVP.
I used Immersed on Quest 3 with my Macs until I got AVP. Now I use Immersed on AVP.
I don’t understand why you waste your time with the Meta software, instead of immersed.
Unfortunately you cannot spawn VisionOS apps when using immersed.
Great video. I use my Quest 3 in Immersed as a complement to my triple 1440P setup. It isn't as sharp as my native monitors, but being able to have five monitors and resize them while being in cool virtual environments sometimes get my productivity going. I pretty much do 30 minutes to an hour everyday when I'm in a rut at my work from home setup.
Agreed!
Can’t wait for the AVP to become cheaper.
Absolutely agreed! This will take the masses once it is cheaper!
they'll have a lot of serious (and cheaper) competition by then
Local to me, the AVP has been dropping in price on the used market like crazy! I can find multiple listings for around 2800 Euros.
For reference, a new one would cost me 4449 Euro's!
Wow, that is great actually!!!
Good comparision video. All the focus on Apple Vision and VR made me buy the Meta Quest 3, even if I am heavly invested in the Apple ecosystem and not a large fan of Meta.
However, I must say, when I read about what persons end up using Apple Vision Pro on, Meta Quest seems like a very good substitute. I mostly use my Quests for looking at movies and playing games. Playing games on them is really fun. I have also used an app called Pianovision where the Quest is connected to a midi keyboard via an USB cable, which is fun and where it is useful with augmentation.
For me VR/AR glasses represent a fun product, kind of in the same way as Apple TV. While the other Apple products are expensive, they represent value and make me more effective.
I think the right price for an Apple VR/AR product should be in the range of 66%-100% of an iPhone Pro Max, which is more comperable to Meta Quest. I'm not sure if I would have bought them even if they had been cheaper, because games is important, and Apple have never been good on games (I also use the quest with MS Flightsimulator on a PC I use for machine learning).
Which headset do you prefer for mirorring your display?
AVP
Quest 3 atm. I used it for a full day of UI design a few times.
I practically never work with a connected computer. On the Quest this is impossible. But on the AVP it works incredibly well due to two things: the apps and webapps themselves working incredibly well in an iOS environment (something I’ve also noticed while working iPad only) and second: the way the AVP and its software is being controlled. This is definitely the way headsets HAVE TO work in the future. Apple has set the right milestone to make VR/MR accessible to people. Now we need to find a good sweet spot in terms of pricing ;-)
The comparison should be using both devices for productivity without screen mirroring. I use my Quest 3 only for native games, and for productivity "without screen mirroring" doesn't work well. On the AVP I use the UTM Se with Linux installed and I have everything I need inside it.
The Immersed community would like a word.
NIce video. One clarification: You can definitely run Meta apps while at the same time mirroring your Mac or PC. Probably the easiest way is to open the Meta Browser, then use Chrome Remote Desktop to mirror your PC or Mac.. Now you can open another 5 Meta Quest apps or browser windows open at the same time.
Right, I was talking about Workrooms. But that's true.
Looking forward to Q3 vs AVP on Windows PC...
For that we will need third party software on the AVP though.
@@mixedrealityTV I think that it's fair to include apps that bridge the gap. It's not like anyone is buying a PC, Mac, AVP or Q3 and saying - "right, now i should have everything i need and not have to download a thing".
Whether it's games, media or productivity tools, people will get what they need outside of the core OS offerings (although you're right to review the OS features as they should be enough to get most people going). I think it's especially relevant if it's a free app, like Immersed, which will give Q3 a web cam like AVP offers at the OS level.
Or use third-party solutions like Immersed, for example.
Yes, but on AVP, with immersed you cannot start VisionOS apps next to running immersed. It's like a contained VR app.
You can actually use the remote desktop on the home screen on quest it’s just a different app but it’s already downloaded it’s just called meta remote desktop and you’re able to use it alongside other 2-D apps on the meta-quest home screen. And it also uses the same host app on PC or Mac for work rooms
Awesome video by the way🎉
@@jacobfelton5360 Thanks!!!
Loving my AVP with a Mac Studio. I'd love to see a video about connecting the AVP to windows and especially the best way to deal with using the same keyboard and mouse for input to both the macOs and windows virtual display.
Oh that's a good idea! But same keyboard will be tough! It can work if you have a keyboard and a mouse where you can quickly change Bluetooth hosts. I will make that video for you.
@@mixedrealityTV It was wonky, but after changing focus, I could use the same keyboard. The issue I saw was that my mouse didn't work on Windows 10 and I had to either: a) Use my Windows mouse or b) use look and click (native visionOs input). The keyboard and mouse are plugged into my Mac Studio. I can of course use my windows keyboard and mouse if I slide over to that physical computer
Question: if I have a MacMini, I don't need to use my screen when I go out on a travel, for exemple. Is that correct? Easy to use.
Immersed app should have been introduced here since it is available in both environments (but maybe not with the same functionalities)
This is a first party software comparison.
Then definitely keep exploring this topic deeper @mixedrealitytv, it’s very interesting and useful.
@@ThorNjord Agreed!
Just curious, how's the Surreal Touch review coming?
It's there now! :) As you saw!
And to be honest: I feel like workrooms was better before the big update (different environments and the very convenient big whiteboard. That’s something I‘m missing…)😢
In my opinion it was a smart move to simplify it. I am sure they checked the statistics and found out that very few people actually used whiteboard etc.
Meta however since quest launch completely neglected Bluetooth keyboards for international users. You can choose US layout only and its been like that always. It would be such a simple thing to fix for Meta, but so far its useless outside America. They do however support the nieche "US Dvorak" layout for some weird reason. If Meta really want their headset to be used in more productive ways, they need to sort this out.
You mentioned that Vision OS2.0 supports curved screens... but the other thing it will support is two monitors, and already right now the OS2.0 beta automatically passes through keyboards in an immersive environment so you get the same benefit as the desk window, without having to configure a desk surface in the AVP.
For me I can't work with any less resolution than the AVP offers, so working on Quest (2 or 3) never worked for me.
Ate you sure about two monitors in vision 2? As far as I heard it's only one huge curved screen!
It's not two screens it's the "equivalent" of two 4K screens side by side in ultra wide mode. Coming this fall probably in visionOS 2.1
Great video - Quest 3 looking really good for working :-)
Thanks! I am also suprised how well it works!
upgrade to a ultrawide non curved monitor itis a must 29 to 34 is very affordable
Haha...I rather not buy anymore physical screens!
They are two different products, why keep comparing? AVP resolution is much higher
That's what you do with products, you compare them.
@@mixedrealityTVyeah but the AVP is a high end product and the Quest is not.
@@chemtown8293 So why should I not compare them if the not so high end product can actually compete? You logic is flawed.
@@mixedrealityTV Quest has been out for years…inheriting Oculus apps. For now AVP is limited but it was just released early this year. Time will tell. I am in it for the long run and am excited for the AVP and its amazing capabilities.
nice varjo headset wow
Not really a fair comparison when it goes to resolution for Quest 3. Immersed and Meta Remote Display support higher resolutions than Workrooms (it supports 1080p only) and that's what should have been compared to Vision Pro.
Its fair because I compare what the companies give us for streaming our Mac displays. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@ScreentubeR Glad I could bring some value here. Yeah, the reconnecting display thing is such a pain...
Quest 3 win
Quest 3 is great, really.
Meta Quest 3 👍
It's a great headset!
It's not a fair comparison. Assume Quest 3 is priced the same as apple and adds additional hardware for the extra price. Quest 3 might outshine AVP in most areas except ecosystem integration
Why is it not a fair comparison? Because one is cheaper than the other? Did you actually watch the video?
@mixedrealityTV Yes, I watched this video and I watched all your videos. I appreciate your efforts to covers most of VR news and especially hardware hands on to VR community. You are saying Meta is doing better in most aspects with a cheaper price.I agree. But my pov is why compare products like AVP which is 7x pricer than MQ3 is compared evenly and I think it's unfair. AVP can be compared with Vario products in the same price range
@@pub80 when quest3 actually comes out as a good competitor to AVP - its worth comparing those two.
Metas displays are garbage. All the stuff you mentioned are simple software updates that will be coming will take the AVP all day long it’s just a better device if you’re Mac user
Oh don't get me wrong I love my AVP. But the competition has some good software!
Meta Quest HMDs are not productivity devices. They are for gaming. I wish they'd stop trying to do everything just to one up Apple! No one, outside of hardcore users, are buying Quest3 for working in
It works well as a productivity device though!
Hey bud, the PCVR space has had screen mirroring/VR Desktop far before Apple even had the AVP. So, "trying to do everything just to one up Apple" is a non-sensical statement. Perhaps Apple should stop copying everyone else? Nobody is buying the AVP to work in, bro.
@@phaZed9 "Nobody"?
@@mixedrealityTV Less than 1%.. for those that are, it's more novelty - it's just too slow (Inputs) for productivity compared to physical desktop. For professional AR (Like 3DCAD/CAM/ETC Mercedes/BMW and the like)- They're not using AVP, either... Software isn't there and they already have professional solutions in place.
@@phaZed9Too slow? You can mix inputs with VP. What’s faster? Taking your hands off of the keyboard to grab the mouse then looking for an excel cell and then putting your hands back on your keyboard to type, or leaving your hands on the keyboard, looking for a cell, pinching, and typing again? Now multiply that by the thousands of times people grab their mouse depending on the work they do.
No one uses a mac. windows ftw. usless video
Haha, this made me laugh! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
