- At the last minute last Thursday I decided to get on the train at midday to Bristol Parkway as I spotted a message that another two Southern class 455 were going to Newport docks for scrapping, so I went and this is what I filmed, but I was back home for teatime.
I know we moan about the old trains sometimes but it's still sad to see them being dragged off for scrap after all the years of service they put in, these new trains will never last 25 years, nice vid Mike.
Thanks for your comment Steve which is all very true, and thank you for taking a look. Mike.
Bloody hell do those Suez refuse wagons stink. Great video as always.
Yes they do sometimes, cheers for watching.
Great video as always Mike, sad to see the 455s going to scrap👍
Well ENC they call it progress, its like they spend millions on our railway every year telling us it will make the railways better but nothing gets better in my mind.
Love those trains🚂 man great job filming.💯😎👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed.
Sad to see the 455's go for scrap, they were quite comfy for an emu better that the new plastic stuff. Nice to see an HST. Well done Mike, stay safe 🤓 💙
Totally agree with all of you comment Tony, hope you are enjoying this nice weather we are having. ATB Mike.
That was splendid Mike! Wow! Lovely shots and captures there! Glad you caught these! Sad about those 455s, they were good units in my opinion. Interesting with the HIA grey wagons in the background! Amazing action and variety! You chose the right time to go there! 66798 has been around recently, I saw her on Saturday with 759. You did well there! Great stuff! Top class! No faults at all! Well done! Great work! Wonderful HSTs while you were there too! A perfect example of why I recommend your excellent channel! Good sounds as well! Very nice indeed! Loooooooooooooved it! Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing! Take care, have an awesome day and all the best! Jamie
Well Jamie I was pleased I got to see a Southern 455 again.
Thanks Mike.
@@antman09ful1 I would be Mike, and you did well there! All the best, Jamie
You didn't like the video then? ...lol
Great video Mike!! Some lovely shots there!! Sad to see another 2 455s go off the Newport!! Very nice freight action as usual there!! Bonus for you as well seeing a HST
Oh yes you are right me seeing a HST, if it wasn't for that LE FL loco just up the line I would have got on that HST to go home on.
@@antman09ful1 Ah thats a shame! They are in my opinion giving the best passenger experience (until the air con breaks)
Gota take my hat off to your planning mate and another good video
Oh really, thanks Owain, I think its part of the funny of the hobby myself as sometime I mess it up.
Good to see good units going for scrap & nothing is replacing them
What does it all mean then Mark, are you says we have to many units or are the passenger numbers going down ?
they are being replaced, the class 377/5s are being cascaded from southeastern so they can return their stored 465s to service
Wow, spectacular catches and video! New sub! Keep up your outstanding work forever! 🙂🍀🤞💯
Good afternoon Andrew and I'm pleased you have come across my channel, well all I can say Andrew is if you like watching freight trains from different areas of the UK I 'm sure you will be happy watching my videos which I upload mostly ever two days. Regards Mike.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it mate.
Another location i havn't been to for so long now Mike. Looks a lot different with all the
knitting than i remember. Still, was a great piece of filming so cheers for that.
ATB Colin.
Its a place I don't visit very much Colin.
Like 13 beautiful video, greetings from Asturias 🚂📽️🔝👍🙋♂️
Many thanks for watching.
Evening Mike from sunny Spain 🇪🇸 🥵 So nothing better than chilling wat your fantastic videos 👍🏻 You don’t realise how much you love HSTs now even though they displaced all my favourite loco hauled trains 😄 Especially Westerns hence my CZcams name lol 😆 Hopefully I’ll see another great video on my holidays 🤣 Cheers Stevie 👍🏻
Yes we have got a bit of Spanish weather for the next few days Stevie then back to normal at the weekend, you have a good break at your place and I'm sure I will be uploaded a video again on Thursday. The sad bit for me was them 455 units going to Newport Docks.
Remembering my days commuting into London on 4SUB's, I think of those units as modern!
Yes I get what you mean, cheers for taking a look.
God video I'm always amazed that there is a shortage of rolling stock and yet that send good stock for scrap that has plenty of life still in it,
Its all about someone making money, its like building new offices when there are lots empty down the road, they build new units with nice toilets and USB points in them but they will not last as long as the old units that have to be scrap as they have to many. Cheers for watching my latest video Jo.
Great to record their last journey on film. They've served the London commuters well over the years
They bloody well did Matthew, cheers for your comment.
Brilliant video Mike. Sorry that my lot are taking them to their final fate
I suppose you don't have control over all what goes on in the company you work for Ben, cheers for having a look, hope its not this hot when we meet up next as it is this afternoon..
Nice footage, Mike.
Sad to see the 455’s going - still think of them as new, but of course they aren’t! BREL built good units, and built them to last.
I wonder if the their replacements will still be around in 35 years?
Nice bonus catch with the CC 125!
Best wishes from Wirral!
Hi Darren, I hope the new trains we are getting in this country at the moment don't last as long as our British built units, then people can turn round and say lets go bad to building our own trains, or am I dreaming Darren.
Thanks for watching my video and yes its always good to get a XC HST on film these days, ATB Mike.
excellent catch 👍yes it is sad like saying goodbye to a friend 😥i didn't get a chance to see them when they came to Kent it only went as far as sevenoaks and i live in the east plus that day i was out with family pity 😟
Well the family has to come first Barry, thanks for checking my video out.
Very nice trains
Thank you very much!
Sorry to see those units go. Thanks
Not good is it Roger.
Nice catch. I was just around the corner at Patchway.
Oh was you, I was surprise the train spotted, thanks for watching my video Peter.
They don’t mess about getting these units to the scrap man. These 455s have lasted well. I remember seeing them brand new at Clapham Junction.
Great days looking back at what we have now.
Nice to see the X country 43's
It was but the reason I went was to see the Southern 455 possibly for the last time.
That was my old Shunting yard, called Stoke Gifford years ago.
Oh right yes there was a 08 stabled there many years back, thanks for reminding me of them days mate.
@@antman09ful1 There was two there, one on the upside and one on the downside, both worked 24/7 except Sunday nights.
Nice one mike for the record, not a fan of the new carboard seats and the rough ride on the new ones in general, why is an uprade a step backwards, well its called progress, cheers, Steve . 😣😢
I just don't know Steve, as you said the new stuff is rubbish.
The 455s suffered from serious corrosion until it was fixed in the late 1990s. They were nowhere near as comfortable as the SUB and EPB units they replaced.
However the running gear and traction equipment is probably good for many more years. In BR days it would have been reused.
Yes you have made some great points which I agree with mate. Cheers for taking a look at my video.
@@antman09ful1 keep them coming I watch them in Sweden. There is still some 1960s loco hauled stock still running.
That is good to keep the old stuff about every day.
Hard to believe the 455's are 40 years old. Here on Merseyside we got the 508's they replaced and they and the 507's are now about to be replaced too,
Yes I know Alan, but that tells me the old British stuff lasts longer.
How long has some of them 777 been on Merseyside now and they are still not in service.
Those barrier coaches look like they've come from the old Shenfield electrics.
Well yes its possible I will look into it.
Those barrier coaches look more like 508 driving motors or their cousins. Definitely not the old Shenfield stock.
Nice vid, your in my home city
Yes I know Kev, but I didn't stop long, was pleased the train did that stop.
Good video Mike anyway :)
Thank you Simon.
Rip Class 455 you miss on railways
Yes I think so.
Not good off to scrap I think I only ever filmed them once good video mike
Cheers for your comment Andrew.
@@antman09ful1 Unfortunately i haven't seen any 455s :'(
Sad about the 455 units but the reality their time is up and they gotta go, *DESPITE* some peoples feelings may be about them ("criminal" waste of money/they could do another 25 years etc)
They're old and knackered, it was more a waste of money sending all the 365s to scrap. That and putting 379s in storage because they've been replaced by trains after a whole 10 years of life...
Well Keith you are probably right, but I just don't like these new units that we are getting, apart from the USB points.
Yes I agree the 365 should have not gone for scrap LiftFan.
@@antman09ful1 yep I agree the old ones need scrapping but the lack of opening windows and uncomfortable seats is the norm with new units. They say they are air conditioned but i've yet to feel the effect
Just as a matter of interest, how old are the 455s? They look quite modern. Bet they are not as old as 150s, and they are still clattering about. However, an interesting video Mike, thanks 😃😃
theyre 39 years old, the class 150s are 38 so the 455s are indeed older, since the new SWR trains have at least a year before they get properly going, the class 455 will probably manage just over 40 years of service
@@Trainman10715 Crickey, being a Birmingham New Street man, ex, I'm not familiar with the 455s, but the sprinters ect were our bread and butter! I moved back to Birmingham from a 10 year sojourn to Darlington where we had those awful Pacer 140s and similar, painful!! 🤣
Next they’ll be saying they haven’t got enough rolling stock
That has a very good chance mate, thanks for watching and your comment. Mike.
Look like new. To be replaced by foreign trains. What have we come to.
I just don't know, thanks for comment.
Nice 2 c the hst
Its always great to see a HST these days Nick. Cheers Mike.
@@antman09ful1 I miss HSTs serving London
I prefer British built over "foreign trash", besides our loco's may be ugly but they our kind of ugly
Yes I agree Martin.
According to the date ,this hasn't happened yet! Lol!
Yes I did change the date.
Great video
Thanks again.
Great video
Thanks.
