- Is mold killing your terrariums? 9 tips to prevent mold in closed terrariums
In this video I cover 9 tips that can help you prevent mold in closed terrariums. Please bear in mind that inspite of taking all these measures you could still encounter mold issues since it is part of an ecosystem and may not be eliminated completely. However these measures will limit the severity of any mold outbreak. Any small mold outbreak can clear up on its own over time. In a future video I will cover corrective actions post a mold outbreak in terrarium.

really inspirational, thanks for the simple tips and not looking for money.
Very informative. Thanks!
Thank you
I will use this in my new build as my first one which was not done right but still enjoyable Has a mold outbreak and I needed to sadly take it a part
Good info sir.
Thanx for the update
Thanks
Nice quality. I have watched many videos about this topic, and your video feels very complete, especially with the disclaimers at the end.
Thank you.
Music is too peaceful, loved it

Great video. Did the one for post outbreak ever get created?
Thanks. Not yet
Very useful video.Thank you for sharing. If I plan to add isopods in a gallon container, hoe many should I add to start with, and are there any steps I need to take to disinfect them?
Thanks. You can drop in a few and check out how they are doing. Later you can add some more.
I want spring tails but its below freezing so not a great time to ship and no place local sells them >.
look in your potted plants under the inner pot, most people have springtails there, wehre its warm, wet, and often moldy
Somehow maintaining algae is much easier in an aquascape lol.. I must try a better mix for my substrate. is less organic better for terarium? I must build open container since I live in hot climate
Beautiful video. Immediately subscribed.
Thanks
Beautiful and informative. I can't seem to keep springtails alive. I do better with isopods with bigger terrariums but they don't do so well in smaller ones. Thanks Sushanto.
Thank you
Just keep some springtails in a breeding container as shown in the video, and regularly resead your terrariums as needed.
I sadly lost the springtails, that came with my potting soil, so I will actively breed them now too.
I'm facing these issues now
And I can't able to find spring tails.
do you think baking foraged wood in the oven (250F/120C) for a few hours would be as efficient as boiling it to make it terrarium safe ?
Boiling is a safer option I think
Thank you. I just use my judgement.
Please tell me where I can get spring tails in india
You can collect from wild or from your garden too.
Hi,
I recently made two tic-tac terrariums without springtails and used plants from same propagation box, soil that was stored in same container, wood pieces broken from the same driftwood and are kept under the same light but one of my terrariums is very clean and does not have any mold in it and the other has a lot of mold growing on the driftwood even though I cleaned it several times. Can you please tell me a way of preventing the mold growth on the wood?
BTW can you tell me an easy way to catch enough springtails to start a culture so that i can try adding some springtails to it?
Need to see pics to understand severity and mold type. Mold can grow inspite of taking all precautions. You will need to brush it off. In many cases they disappear on their own too.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist I have sent you the pics you asked for on discord
i just made one have i made any mistakes i didnt add any preventive measures but i added a rock layer with soil i put in some moss and some small plants that wouldnt grow to big i also put some dead wood in their with some isopods and maybe a few uninvited ants and i put it in a sunny area
should i add worms?
Springtails if you have. Else fine
There are a lot of small tiny worms in my terrarium...they look like a transparent small peice of thread....pls tell me how to get rid of them
Nematodes probably. Remove manually with a soft brush dipped in water from glass walls.
Yes... I brushed them away everyday for 6 days but those nematodes keeps increasing....are they harmfull...?
A lot of them looks disgusting..
@@abdulnaseer131 does your terrarium smell funny and pungent? If yes then they are surely causing harm.
Yes it smells bad....but plants are doing well..
