This video has helped a lot ❤️ I’m almost done with my power plant and I definitely plan on remaking this video and sharing it. I know as a female in the field I have a lot of eyes on me. Going to AIM isn’t for the weak 💯 graduated 2020 from high school started that same year in December COVID is still affecting us till this day but I’m almost done ALL GLORY THANKS TO GOD . Take the advice take all of it because it’s true the longer you wait the more your just going to keep putting it off go after it and don’t ever look back. I wanted to be a pilot but pandemic hit made me rethink my whole life but I don’t regret it I know im exactly where god wants me and im almost done! It’s gonna hurt more to give up Than to finish. If you think it then you are.
Thanks for your comment! Congrats with getting close for your powerplant rating. You got this!
Update?
I congratulate anyone who takes this path in their career selection but I really commend anyone who didn’t know anything about Aviation before this or didn’t have a desire rest of us do from day one.
I commend these people because I’ve always had an interest in Aviation from when I was a little kid I know the phraseology I know almost everything about airplanes from when I was a teenager.
If you just hopped on and decided to take this test because it looks like a good career advancement I commend you because it is not easy and have I not had all the experience and flying I did from when I was young I don’t know if I could’ve made it.
This test is not just about preparing for the test and memorizing the answers. Believe me when I tell you you may get by the test but when you come work for somebody like me or anybody out there they are going to test your knowledge so best you read in the books and understand why things work the way they do.
Your going to have to understand it one way or the other. Now or later you will need to learn it
Good luck ladies and gentleman.
Thanks for your comment. Make it a great week!
I came from IT and jumped into a part 147 school because I wanted a change and wanted to learn how to use my hands, tools, fluid lines, different bolts, how to use a ruler, different drill bits, etc. when I first started I don’t know this was a Jack of all trades kind of deal 😂 anyways, I just passed all my general classes without failing a single test. Now I’m studying for my General Cats and moving on to power plant next week. This is hands down the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. It is really tough getting through but I love it and I’m in it to learn as much as I can at this point. I respect you guys with all the experience you have because if I put in the work you all are like open encyclopedias willing to teach. Can’t wait to become officially apart of the aviation family 🙏🏿
Hi there.
I know nothing about this, not even how to fix a car, I'm 40 with no trade or career, and I'm desperate to do anything to get a trade, should I try this? You made me think about it 😮
Good information. I got my A&P in August 2019 and my bachelors in Aviation Management, worked for an MRO for 2 years and currently working for an FBO. I still remember the nerves of taking all of my tests, including O&P. Great memories
Very nice. MRO's are a very good place to start. I worked on 767's at a MRO myself and back at a FBO/145 RS. The O&P was for sure something to be prepared for. Thanks for your comment. Make it a great weekend!
What does aviation management open up
@@everyonetookmyid It would give you a better chance at as an airport, airline or aircraft maintenance manager. I can see it being beneficial as a lead mechanic too. What's your areas of interest within aviation? It pretty broad and can help in many areas for moving into a higher paying role.
@@Blaircraft.Engines i msg you through your email it would be really helpful thx .
@@danielwrld6923 I’ll check it out. 👍
interesting video, kind of reminded me why i need to finish school to get my a&p
Awesome. Wish you the best!
I’m 36 and struggling to get a job in industrial automation and controls after I got me mechatronics degreee in 2015. I ended up getting a job at directv and then an electronic technician job repairing credit card readers and didn’t end up using many of the skills I learned in college. I’m studying back up to get a job in controls and am going to go to sac city college for their A&P.
Thank you for this video. I frankly feel like a loser sometimes but I know it’s not true. I’m excited to go into this field.
Ryan, it’s good to hear you’re excited about going into the aircraft maintenance world. We need more GOOD A&P mechanics, people’s lives depend on it.
It can be very rewarding, it’s what you make it. Currently the job market for A&P mechanics is very solid.
I wish you the best! Enjoy the process of this phase too!
Sir, can i ask of what is the exact age limit to work as an aircraft mechanic?
Hey Man have you started the classes at all?
Just passed my General written exam today. Ready to keep goin!
Congrats!
Hey i just completed my tour at my aviation mechanic school near me and am really excited and nervous just a quick question... should i know how to use the tools necessary for the job before starting (wrench etc) my classes, i start in around 2 months and not sure if they'll teach me all of that just because its so basic please answer thank you!
No it wouldn’t be necessary, however the more you can familiarize your self the better. As long as you show the effort that you want to learn, you’ll be fine! If you have zero experience with tools, perhaps teardown a bike or something that might be a good idea.
I'm interested in becoming an aircraft mechanic when I graduate highschool in 2023. In my area Haeco America's is offering to pay people for training and give them a position as mechanic in a 16 week program. Do you think this is a good option for starting out as a mechanic? The starting wage seems decent.
Honestly, that sounds like a great opportunity. Getting practical experience while getting paid is a great option.
However, is there a contract that requires you work for so long at a certain rate?
Do they have a set path for working towards and completing your A&P certificate?
In other words… what’s the plan after the 16 week program?
I couldn't afford to go to a school so I joined the Navy instead. Took some classes in my off time when I could, Uncle Sam paid for all of it. Took all my tests and had my A&P the month after I separated. Went to work defense contract no A&P required, then got moved to a contract where it was required. Next step was with a commuter/regional airline, then air freight, then major US airline. Just recently retired after 30+ years in the business. If you are going to go in this business it is a true 24/7 365 business. There are no weekends or holidays and be prepared to work many YEARS of third shift. There are many dangerous chemicals and substances you will handle. It's also a dangerous business I have seen people die and be maimed for life. You will also be subject to random drug & alcohol testing. Hope this information helps. FLY NAVY!!!
Congrats on your retirement. 👍 lots of good true info in your comment. I have experience with a large MRO shop myself, B-767 C-checks. However, working in the GA side of aviation you can avoid 3rd shift and often 2nd shift as well. Yes…. All shops you need to be cautious with chemicals!
Hello, Joshua. I am going to study a&p maintenance but I don’t know which school is best for me near Albuquerque, NM. Please give me some advice for me.
@White Whale I actually went through Eastern New Mexico... EMNU. Is that too far?
I dont have any experience with being in aircraft maintenance but a friend recommended it to me and it sounds interesting....would is some advice you could give me if I have no knowledge
Have you worked with anything that involves maintenance on equipment, cars or motorcycles? If not, that’s fine…
My next question is always, is there a small airport around that you know of?
I went to school with Kendall. He’s a hard worker and great dude.
Over 2 decades as an AMT (retired now), my advice, ask what are the pros and cons of getting into this field. Also understand the economics of the industry and what affects its bottom line.
Very good point! I’ve noticed there’s been more interest here lately. Perhaps I should do a part 2. I just had a thought... what about group discussion between other aircraft mechanics? Active and retired... discuss your question that way. Any thoughts of that idea?
@@Blaircraft.Engines its a great idea, im def open to it, the better informed folks are the better off they are
@Eddie Arevalo - Shoot me a quick email at blairpilot@gmail.com we can set something up and chat about this.
do you know any good schools for aviation mechanics in Houston that has a good teaching system? i been thinking a lot between becoming a pilot or aviation powerplant mechanic. one thing I have heard about aviation mechanic school is that you have to teach yourself a lot and find time to gain your own experience and I don't have a job that does that currently so I am anxious about the teaching your self hands on experiance.
Thanks for your questions.
I’ve not talked with anyone personally that has attended aircraft maintenance school in the Houston area.
You definitely should do additional reading on your own to understand things well to retain the information.
You will learn as you get hands on experience. The A&P certificate allows you to work on aircraft and learn. Someone should provide what you need to accomplish the hands on work, such as manuals and speciality tools. (If you’re working for a company)
Are there any small airports near by that have a maintenance shop?
Aviation institute of maintenance.
So I’m close to graduating high school and I’m deciding to do this, but I got a question? Do I need to go to college for this or I just need my high school diploma to start off
Thanks for asking. You don’t need to attend college for this. However, you can attend college or some vocational schools approximately 18-24 months.
However, your High School diploma is good for the following option.
You can also go the apprenticeship route, which is what I did myself. This is a good option if you can find a fairly busy shop. If you choose this option, make sure you think they can give you hours you need (40 hrs week). This should also give you a good variety of experience. You would have a chance you get a lot of hands on experience and get paid at some level. You would have to be more disciplined with your studying though with this route.
Also, you can receive your associates degree later after you complete your A&P with just a few additional classes. I did this through Eastern New Mexico University (online classes)
Shoot me an email too if you’d like. blairpilot@gmail.com
@@Blaircraft.Engines Thanks I appreciate this
@@Blaircraft.Engines So should I go to the apprenticeship route first or go to vocational school first. Which one would help me more?
@@Solis_333 I think it depends on what airport opportunities you have close to you or if you are willing to relocate.
@@Blaircraft.Engines Alright, but I live in California so I’m not sure
I'm graduating in 2023 in Oklahoma and My dad wants me to join AIM, but I don't know if I should and at the same time I don't know if I even wanna go to college because I'm really scared of getting into debt and I don't find myself wanting to get a higher education at all. I am not the smartest nor do I have a good memory but I do have a good comprehension of things.
Chuck,
My first question: Are there any airports close by that have a maintenance shop?
Second: Do you enjoy wrenching on things or more electrical?
@Chuck Yang do you need your act or an associates degree to get into it? Because I bombed my act and I am worried about my future
@@mrpianist1017 Believe me, they made it seem like the ACT is everything when you take it - I promise, it means absolutely ZERO.
I want to start A&P school in September. Where would you suggest
Awesome 👍 What part of the country are you considering?
Hi! I want to become a aircraft mechanic, but not sure how good I would be considering I have no background knowledge of it. What schools do you suggest in the Chicago area? I don’t know if this helps but I have a associate degree in general studies and military veteran.
Hey there! Having an associate degree, will definitely help in a college program setting. The credits you have will definitely count towards if you’d like to do the bachelors option. In the Chicago area, I have talked to Lewis university. They have a pretty solid aviation maintenance program from what I can see.
Hello! We have a Chicago campus. Let us know if you would like more information.
Hello sir how do I get my A&P certificate.I have 5years working experience as an A&P in my country, and I have my local A&P license. I try to contact fsdo and he ask me a detailed log book for airframe and powerplant which is I don’t have. I only have is recommendations letter from my previous company stating that they recommend me to get my A&P license.and other employment certificates from different company and country.what I need to do sir? Thank you
This is a great question. I went this route to get my A&P certificate. I had a letter from an A&P/IA at my previous employer, no log book either. They mentioned what experience I had, including the types of aircraft/engines worked on over a certain time frame. I also had some J3 experience, as I had a restoration project I was working on. I wish I knew where a copy of the letter was and I’d share more. Unfortunately this been almost 15 years ago. I hope this helps. You can send me an email if you’d like to discuss more. blairpilot@gmail.com

Any good schools near Sacramento? Do Any schools offer relocation help?
I don’t know about the Sacramento area, but I’ll ask some of the other mechanics I know. Sorry I’m not sure of the relocation assistance.
Is there any small airports around your area? Perhaps you could work with a local mechanic for a start.
How long does it take to get your A and P certificate?
30 months hands on experience, 12 or 18 months school programs are most typical.
Is there any good schools I could go to In the Detroit areas?
Western Michigan University is good. However, that would be a couple hours from Detroit. Are you just considering somewhere local?
@@Blaircraft.Engines yeah, that’s a 2 and a half hour drive for me. Is there any place closer?
Try miat canton
I don’t know nothing about mechanical stuff where do I start?
Do you live somewhere near a small airport within reasonable driving? Going to a small airport and getting to know people there, along with mechanics is always a great start.
I did a HVAC trade damn I wish I would have done a aviation one instead. The pay is much better by far.
@Peter Ortega it’s not too late! If you enjoy aircraft, I would definitely recommend still checking it out.
Any chance there is a smaller airport close to you?
I'm in a hvac program but only for sheet metal fabrication/welding waiting for my aero to start in fall.
@@mymomsboyfriend5672 Awesome 😎 I wish you the best! I’m guessing you’d be interested in aircraft structures?
@@Blaircraft.Engines oh yea doing this so I'll have another notch under my belt to fit with my A&P license
@@mymomsboyfriend5672 not all A&P mechanics are good at or even like sheet metal work. So this is definitely a great skill to have, good for you!
Any good schools in Houston
Just north of Houston: MIAT has pretty good reviews and looks pretty solid. I can't say that I've spoke with anyone that has attended there. miat.edu/ Hope this hopes!
Hello! We have a Houston campus: aviationmaintenance.edu/campuses/houston-tx/
Lately what I've seen especially from AIM, They are takin the money and putting people out there who have no business in aviation. The graduates show ready for a paycheck, not to concerned about quality or safety of flight. Most on cell phones alot of the time and chatting all day long. Frustrating for those of us who take it seriously and being doing it a while.
That's a bummer, it's too bad. I believe working as aircraft mechanic or on aircraft in anyway, you should have some level of passion for aviation and or aircraft.
That’s what I’m afraid of joint the program and no one is showing you the right way
The job itself is fun and very interesting, but there is hazing culture and just way too many toxic people who are willing to make your life as miserable as possible for reasons that has absolutely nothing to do with the job...
If somebody with more seniority than you was forced to sleep on the couch the night before, best believe you as an apprentice would be paying for it..
There is a reason why everyone wants an office job and nobody wants to be in trades
Stay far away.. definitely not worth going to school for it
There are definitely companies that have a toxic maintenance environment, but not all.
I have personally worked on Cargo 767, GE Aviation and then later in turbo machinery research along with GA aircraft. It depends A LOT on who you work for and the culture of the shop. This type of work can be fun and rewarding, but you must find a good fit.
I’ve been a pilot for 21 yrs and an aircraft mechanic for 15 ish yrs.
I left somewhat of a dream job to start my own business within GA.
Just do your research and MUST have a passion for aviation or perhaps it’s not a good choice.
Wow, this guys poor connection made this sound like nails on the chalk board
Yeah I know it’s too bad his internet connection was rough… I did my best with editing it.
