    I’ve always loved Eureka grinders for their performance. But I also love Italian design. The thing I’m most impressed by, is the fact that they are able to manufacture these in Italy, and still offer them at what I consider affordable prices for the home barista. Thanks for the inside view of their factory!

    This was a treat! Thank you for taking us along! I’ve been evaluating machines, comparing specs back and forth for months right now. And honestly, I would’ve chosen a Eureka early on if the adjustment wheel was larger, preferably located like on the DF 64. Thanks for making one like that Eureka 😘

    What would I like to see. The market seems to be leading to a horizontal type grinder with an auger for consistent feeding of coffee beans regardless of weight / volume in the hopper.

  • @AlexCamerony
    @AlexCamerony Před 7 měsíci +3

    I'm really impressed to see so much in house machining and assembly! Leading up to it's released, I was really hoping the oro single dose would be the grinder for me but what killed it was the grind size adjustment. I wanted a low/zero retention grinder that could easily switch between filter and espresso and their traditional dial just didn't work for that.
    It does sound like they are addressing that which is great. Would also love to see them be more open to facilitating burr swapping in their grinders.

    1. Standardize burr size to give people options and also allow other grinders to use their burrs
    2. Redesign grind adjustment, bring something completely new, not just a facelift mignon in 10 different ways, recent stuff feels like afterthought to desperately catch up.
    3. Variable RPM
    4. Blind burrs !
    Product idea: 83mm flat burr grinder with standardized burr size,blind burrs with big circle around to adjust the grind size based on micrometer rather than number, brushless DC motor with variable RPM, dosing directly to porta filter based on weight like libra. Maybe something inovative like portafilter being held by electromagnet in place avoiding mess completely by totally sealing connection between grinder and porta filter.

    @goodboid Před 7 měsíci +2

    I use multiple Oro Mignons at my cafes for pour overs, they are great little machines. I would really like a larger flat burr heavy duty machine, 65mm or above, single does grinder for espresso. I think single dose grinders for cafes are a HUGELY under served markets, especially since we would love to offer a variety of espresso options, but we feel no grinders serve this niche currently. Either we "make do" or have a work around for grinders that are meant to work properly with the weight of additional beans in the hopper, or have way too much retention to be useful.
    I would love to see an easy to dial in, single dose grinder, with low retention, at a reasonable price, not in the Weber/Lagom territory. We have evaluated multiple grinders, including the EK43, Ditting Lab Sweet, Mythos, etc but none of them are designed for a single dosing workflow. We also need a support network to services these grinders, so that rules out "exotics" like Weber and Lagom. Eureka with its reach can really make a difference in this section of the speciality market.

    A little late to the party, but here's my contribution.
    I have 3 grinders currently and would love to add a Eureka to the stable, because I think a friend's Mignon produces excellent results and seems to be well made and high quality. However, I'm at my space limit so any new purchase would have to displace my current espresso focused grinder and ideally be multipurpose, though I do recognize the difficulty of excelling at many things. I do multiple brewing methods with multiple beans (usually 2 different single origin light - medium roast + a decaf) so being able to easily and repeatably get to different single dose settings (ideally by burr spacing in actual distance measurements instead of some random scale) is crucial.
    Low retention without bellows would be ideal. I am okay with bellows, I just don't want them to be the primary means by which a grinder is low retention.
    Ionizer for antistatic would also be really nice.
    Auger feed or some other way to control feed rate at something below the limit of the burrs for consistency would be a huge plus. I really want feed rate to remain constant regardless of how many beans there are pushing down into the grind chamber. Love the idea of augers as pre-breakers too, but that's still a pretty new thing and maybe not well enough understood yet.
    I really don't care about automation or fancy features. A simple on/off switch is fine with me. Part of the appeal of the Zerno actually, even if I don't care for the design aesthetic.
    Love the tour. Thanks to Eureka for their hospitality and showing us behind the scenes. Thanks to you for going and powering through a sickness and sharing the tour with us.

    Thank you Kyle for your unique video. One thing I really enjoy the most about Eureka is they really care about feedbacks and users. There are other businesses with the same business strategy tho but not at the same scale as Eureka. You know, when you are small business it is critical to satisfy the buyers. But when it comes to businesses at Eureka's scale it is enjoyable how they care about costumers' feedback. The only thing I expect is STD burr sizes, as also mentioned by another viewer.

    I have a Mignon Zero and it's perfect. It's obviously a dedicated espresso grinder but maybe one improvement would be a dial rotation counter that would let you know what rotation you're on, just to make it easier to bounce from Aeropress to pour-over to espresso. But, I think I saw a model where Eureka has already done this?

    • @KyleRowsell

  • @sambeckman5308

    I have a very early Mignon Zero. It was my first grinder. I absolutely loved it.
    Unfortunately I bricked it when I, in a holiday bind!, used it to grind some cinnamon. I know, I know. At least I know now - not to ever do that again with a flat burr coffee grinder.
    The issue is that the aluminum upper burr carrier warped making it impossible to align the burrs. Even with new replacement burrs I purchased.
    The bigger problem is that the upper burr carrier is not an available replacement part in the US. I contacted 4 or 5 Eureka dealers in America but none were able to order the part.
    At some point I gave up trying to get the part and bought an 1Zpresso hand grinder then later a DF64v.

  • @JanosZakarias
    @JanosZakarias Před 7 měsíci +1

    I'd love to see Eureka fix the grind size dial to be able to switch from espresso to filter and back with ease - right now the dial has to be turned multiple times with no way of knowing where you're currently at. An easy fix would be to adapt the community solution (see finecoar).

  • @noControl556
    @noControl556 Před 7 měsíci +6

    Really the main thing that I would like to see from Eureka is standard burr sizes. Maybe that's not fair and the 64mm aftermarket burrs only came about due to the DF64, but if the Zero could take the SSP 64mm or the 83mm so you had more options to experiment I probably would have gone with them. I'm still considering the Libre as my first-cup latte grinder with just some decent dark roast beans for an simple as possible barely awake workflow, but it's painful to spend that much for just 55mm burrs with no aftermarket options.

    I have been using the Oro for few months and performance wise its perfect, barely any retention and chews through beans like a beast. The only thing it needs is a better grind setting or at least attach a digital display indicating what your current grind setting is. If they implement that, i would never need another grinder.

    Eureka is a great brand and they should just proceed with producing competent and affordable home grinders made in Italy. What they imho should do though is a CONSOLIDATION OF PRODUCT LINES, since it sometimes requires quite an effort to pinpoint the differences between the models.

    Thanks for the video, it is nice to have an inside view of the production process.
    I own a specialita paired with a Rancilio Sylvia. I enjoy not only the coffee but also the use of the machines.
    The grinder is quiet, with little retention, and produces consistent ground coffee every time. I have a small complaint about the hopper and the fork, which holds the portafilter. The quality of the hopper is below the overall quality of the grinder. The same for the fork. It should have been machined better.
    Thank again for the nice video.

  • @The_Catman_Dont
    @The_Catman_Dont Před 6 měsíci

    Great vid Kyle. Have a Eureka Mignon Notte, and it's great overall for my purposes. My big complaint is the high retention and involved cleaning process. I have an aftermarket bellows and I get at least a G of coffee retained for each 16G dose I put through. The bellows helps me blow most of that out so I can use, but still about .2-.3 g becomes a ghost. Other than that, I'm fine with the adjustment mechanism and the build quality is stupendous.

    Thank you for the tour inside their factory. It is good to see how much quality control there was going on.
    As for feedback to them: if they can do a 64 mm flat burr grinder that is able to use other burrs that would be good. Beyond having 64 mm, they'll need to distinguish themselves from the plethora of 64 mm burr grinders already available aside from their Italian heritage and design. Perhaps ensuring excellent burr alignment in addition to tight tolerances would be a reasonable goal for them to aim for while keeping the price competitive to others in the same field.
    Personally, I'm going for a Zerno Z1 though 😉

    What I would wishlist
    * Low retention even without bellows
    * Low static/ easy to clean chute/burrs
    * Quiet
    * Easy reproducible grind adjustment (ideally digital like EK Omnia)
    * Auto dosing (Dose by weight?). But with easy bean type change without wasting beans. Maybe like multiple airtight doser-hoppers?
    * Or even grind by sync support by syncing with the espresso machine

  • @davidjaniszewski6653

    What I think is missing is a home compact version of the Mythos grinder. The Mythos is very low retention, fast and fluffy. The Atom, Zenith and Olympus have too long of a exit chute which causes retention and clumping. The mignon has a very traditional burr geometry that is not my personal preference.
    I have owned several Eureka/Simonelli grinders and I think their performance was hard to beat for the price tag until China started competing. I personally will pay more to buy Italian made goods.

    No experience with Eureka home grinders but I've had atom 75 on counter for 3+ years and haven't found anything I like better. It is fast, quiet, easy to use and adjust. I've tried a MAHLKONIG, mazzer kony, anfim and others but I just dislike there work flow, what you have to do to remove hopper etc. I would be nice if on demand button and back plate were metal not plastic. The portafilter fork is easy to adjust but I wish it wasn't so sharp and didn't collect grounds in the crevasses. The feet or base could be bit better at holding grinder in place but weight keeps it grounded purdy good ( probably constant wiping with wet cloth is culprit here)... hopefully some of this translates to prosumer line but all in all made my life way better on the bar, if I ever replace it will likely be another Eureka, maybe Helios 80 ? Thanks for another great video, can't wait to see few more roaster related videos though:)

    We own the Oro. I cannot recommend this machine, there are too many little things that are frustrating. Why is the switch on the bottom back right hand corner and not on the front? Why is the adjustment knob so small, hard to read and the painted lines wear off? Sometimes this machine can produce an excellent grind a few times in a row, and then it takes a walk about, and we waste coffee trying to dial it back in. Sometimes there's no retention, other times too much. The bellows is not designed well.
