  • Before modifying the VW Golf R, we are doing a full vehicle Scan. This VCDS Scan is one of the best VW/Audi scan tools you can buy. In this video I will show you how to do a full scan on a Can-Bus car. This will scan and store all module codings, adaptations, and measured values. We can also save this information to restore later. THIS IS A MUST BEFORE CHANGING OR MODIFYING YOUR CAR! #VCDS #humblemechanic

To be honest, as a Tech myself, I think people watch "mechanics channels" on CZcams because they are trying to learn something and save money. So instructional videos of all sorts that you could make would most likely be popular, especially if you cater to the VW/Audi underground/niche Tuner culture.
Channels like 'Scanner Danner' or 'South Main Auto' are some of my favorites because even though I may work in the industry I never stop learning. They're suitable for an Apprentice, Journeyman, or even a DIY backyard mechanic. Good for anybody who wants to learn with some sort of past experience.
Channels like Scotty Kilmer are "lighter" on actual teaching of procedures and diagnostics. They just have auto-basics that are more designed as a general Q+A for people who know little about vehicles. Very entry level in my opinion. Yet still good for the average person and not too confusing.
So yeah! Thumbs up! Knowledge is power! :)

Coding full scan and saving results is also important in case any of the modules with coding fail. When you have the original coding saved, installing a spare part and re-entering the same coding get things work easily just as they were working originally.

How about a video on clutch adapations for the DSG, as well as syncing the K1 and K2 clutches. Been looking into this for the 0B5 DL501 DSG in my 16' S6. Getting some jerking from a complete stop, looked into it and it could be the adapation for the clutch engagements. Going to do a fluid swap, and will be resetting these. Now a question on that. A lot of the DIY's show to use basic settings to do this reset. I notice though there is an adaptation menu option, so why not reset it there? Love the videos! Thank you!

i watched your video about saving all adaptations and that you are able to put them back when u did something wrong with the coding, do u also have a video where u show to how to put the adaptation back?
Also you saved the file as pre-label file (or you have the possibility to save it as CSV file or Raw Hex). Raw Hex is the only file u can use to restore Adaptations, why not save it immediately and always as a Raw Hex file?
Thank u very much and awesome video about VCDS, very helpful, hope to see more video's coming.
It would be nice to see more basic, advanced, expert and super super super expert coding, tips and tricks video's.
    Thanks in advance

Have an 05 touareg v8 with a battery drain issue. I can hear a relay clicking up above the steering column. I've got the radio out, the lower dash out, the instrument cluster out, the climate controls out. I'm having trouble getting the upper black relay block out to test those relays. Have checked the lower 2 sets of relays. What I can't get out I wish I could send you a photo of to get a possible idea of what I may need to do. I took the 1 screw out, but above and towards the steering wheel there is a piece of the holder that attaches to a metal support bracket. That's where I'm stuck and I hope at least part of this makes sense...lol

Before I do this, in order for me to backup my existing/factory coding for central electrics/drl When I go into coding 07 after selecting 09 crntral electrics. There is a section there that says current coding and has the long code. If I just copy that current coding code on txt before I adjust the drl and if sonething goes wrong, if I want to reenable to back to factory do I just go back into 09 central electrics, and 07 coding and then paste the current code I copied earlier into the blank box and hit do it, and that should restore back to factory/prior to adjusting drl?

Would love for you to do some VW ODIS Diagnostics

ODIS gets tricky. Vw doesn’t technically like you to share that stuff

I have several stored codes that I NEED to keep stored. Vehicle goes into the shop in about a month. And, if there are no stored codes, warranty will not replace anything. :D However, I want to make sure I get a backup in the event something goes pear shaped. Will deep scanning clear the stored codes? Need to make sure they stay exactly where they are.

hey man, just wondering if you have any experience with the LUK clutch kits? Have a vr6 24V and found a killer deal on a dual mass kit from them. Thanks

LUK clutch kits are really good. We use them in our shop for all VW and Audi groups.

I did the battery tender method with my 2013 Audi Q7. The scan took about an hour.

just did my 2009 GTI with HEX-V2 cable w/battery tender hooked up:
OUTPUT CVS: 35 .CVS files, 135kb total, 52mins
      OUTPUT RAW: 18 .CVS files + 17 .PLB files, 68kb total, 52mins
      All files saved to C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs

I think this is a great video and idea! How big was this file for your car. Look at the property of the file in windows. That will show size of file. Keep up the good work.

Good Question. Once I get to my laptop I will check. I think it was small. You are just saving numbers really. LOL

    • @RossTechVCDS
      @RossTechVCDS Před 5 lety +1

It will be separate files for each control module, but it is pretty much simple text data, so each file size is small. Just to give an example, on my work computer here I have just over 600 Auto-Scans and the total is 12.6MB.

RossTechVCDS thanks, was curious because then you could ask a owner to bring a new flash drive and copy to it encase there not near there normal mechanic, they have a problem ask if the person has Ross scan toll they can compare the new to the old. I’m still learning about your software, I’m very impressed with it. Thanks Mike.

Charles, I have a 2014 Audi SQ5, TDI...lovely car...but....rough start and initial idle....then it's fine. Except seems to be idling or all go ...once you accelerate.....and with this engine...that's a lot of go power..when you just want to turn a corner. I have VCDS, initially no faults...I thought it must be a MAF or vacuum leak. Doesn't appear so and next thing I get a intake manifold flap , Bank 1 stuck closed , fault. I know you can't fix it without more info...but what's the process you use to find the "real" problem.
I don't want to buy a heap of bits and find I'm way off on diagnosis.....appreciate if you ca help. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺.
