To all my fellow Indians, I totally understand the angst and agony when you see an Indian recipe in an untraditional way. But why do you expect a Irish guy to make an Indian recipe totally classical? Also, Donal you're doing your best and I totally Loved the recipe ;-)
Shreyas Iyer namak shamak, namak shamak daal dete hain...
He is not from Britain
Thank god you are here. I can throw all my maps away
Totally agree...
Agreed
''It is not a traditional chicken biryani'' but it's innovative !
Easy to make so loved it!!!
Rati its poop
Dont you think its like pulao?
Yeah... has chicken for difference
Incoming angry Indians saying this is not authentic biryani. Guess what? It's not! This is a fast and simple way of making it, if anyone wants any more flavour, they can buy the biryani paste or masala from the stores, idk if you guys in India make your own at home, not everyone has the privilege of having every ingredient in their country, we buy ours from the supermarket so yeah, haters back off.
Vanditta Diwakar thank you
Vanditta Diwakar namak shamak, namak shamak daal dete hain...
Well said everyone has there different ways of making it as long as it taste good
Ate biriyani a few hours ago, a simple homemade version makes me much happier than the greasy store bought ones.
Thumbs up from me
But this is pulao
Oh look. It's the Authenticity Police, just in time.
don't call it biryani then
Cooking is an art, and just like with any art form, each artist (or chef in this case) is able to use creative liberty to put their own spin on it. While the recipe may not be “traditional”, it still manages to capture its essence while simultaneously offering the viewer a fresh perspective on the dish. I think this was well done!
Sarah Smiles Well said!
Sarah Smiles shut up white girl
I think you have created a new beautiful recipe of your own.. Extremely creative and easy good Job... I am going to try it
Keep making more videos! I appreciate your effort and enjoy trying out the recipes!
Thanks, Donal! Looks pretty simple so I'll definitely be giving this one a try. I love Indian food.
I think you missing 2 ingredients. Garlic and Garam Masala.
not just 2 he is missing 7 ingredients and the main process of dum atleast use some saffron, brown onions, little mint and a little bit kewra water to atleast get a taste of biryani but still you are great
This is not indian or traditional biryani. This is an English version with low spice ratio.
Salt?
It’s not super insulting and also it’s just his way of cooking this. He did mention this is not how it’s normally made and that it’s a simpler version.
This isn't a biriyani but a very innovative and interesting way of cooking rice and chicken in one pot... quite wholesome!
This is what I want for tonight! It looks so delicious! Great recipe as always, Donal!
Yum that looks. Quick and easy. Thank you.
A little tip - I keep my fresh ginger root in the freezer and haul it out for a quick grate whilst still frozen. I don't peel it and find it's easier to grate.
Guys stop insulting his adaptation on biryani, that too in a single pot! He mentioned it, it's a simplified version of the traditional biryani. You already have a lot of classic recipe out there, he's showing you something you can pull off with very less skills and without any fancy ingredients! Appreciate him, will you?
Disha Basu agree
I know but still...
Mr. Ar I know, I'm Indian. I get your feelings. But honestly, we can let people put forward their take on our classics, can't we? Who knows, it may actually taste pretty good, while we all keep raging over how it is not authentic! It is not supposed to be authentic; it's supposed to easy and quick!
Mr. Ar he didn't ruined our tradition its an easy way for him to cook biryani. I know he missed some ingredients & spices but he done his best so we should appreciate him for trying our traditional food
We appreciate him
Thanks, Donal! I never knew I can actually make an easier, simpler version of it now I'm so excited to try
Hey, It was just a twist in recipe "simpler version" of BIRYANI. Chill guys, y are you just looking at one recipe which is not making you happy? But look at hundreds of recipes which are wonderful from Donal. Just appreciate the attempt. It's our privilege that a great cook like him trying our recipes and educating people around the world.
This is my one pan cheats version on the Indian classic --- He said below the video so please
Awesome Donal keep going :) :)
Absoluty amazing! It's fantastic and easy ! I was waiting this idea for long, you made it possible! Love
I love your recipes, they are easy and healthy and really delicious.
Keep going .
Great recipe for a simple biryani! I love that you put the raisins and almonds in!
I have tried it myself and I really have to say that donal you are making our life easier. In love with all of your recipes
I think this is more of a curried chicken risotto than a biriyani. I have no doubt that it tastes delicious, but it probably shouldn't be called a biriyani.
now is when a myriad of italians come to tell you that this has nothing to do with risotto...in an endless circle of people offended by the name of a dish
Right! and I think theirs still water in the rice so I am guessing it still needs more time to cook.

I dunno, I've lived in italy and I too would say this is an indianised risotto using basmati instead of arborio. Maybe a kinda hybrid between risotto and biryani. Think about it, onions cooked, like a soffritto, then the rice is fried like the tostatura. Then its cooked in broth. But there's no matecatura and the rice was prewashed to remove starch which is more like Indian cooking. Pretty interesting recipe, I can't wait to give it a try anyways.
avidreader 231 yeah its closer to a pulao (pilaf) than a biryani for the in-broth cooking.
I love it ...thanks for the simplified biriyani
recipe. ..
This is more life Pilaf/Pilau as opposed to Biryani, but its a perfect alternative to fix that biryani craving in a pinch.
Nice and simple with no “nasty” ingredients. Even I could do this 👍🏻💚
Everyone is so angry It’s His simplified version, when you’re a cook you can mix things up it’s not that serious.
This seems more like a pulao recipe than a biryani one. Not just because of the one pot thing but also because of the spices used. Pulao usually has milder spices like the ones Donal used compared to the strong pungent ones used in biryani, but it's still delicious and a great recipe to know. Pulao is also another favorite in non-veg South Asian households along with biryanis and kormas. Thanks for sharing, Donal!
I love this! Can't wait to try it!
The chicken biryani which has divided the Indian population.
Thanks Loadzzz for such a student-friendly recipe! loved and shared it with friends as soon as it entered my mouth! Lovely !
I’ve tried this , and is amazing ! Quick and easy even . Great for propels who’s always in a hurry . Donal thanks for another great recipe :)
will make this tonight! looks awesome
Wow looks yummy! This is one of my favorite Mediterranean food! I love Chicken Biryani! Thank you for sharing!
Omg.. it's Donal cooking biryani in a pan.. what else can you ask for..❤✌
yukti thegreat ikrr!!!
So easy to cook . Thanks !
That's a very different approach to a biryani and I like it! Deep Fried Shallots can be used to garnish the biryani as well.
Will try it and let you know how it goes Donal...
Did he salt that? I'm gonna rewatch it just to check
Edit: no salt added, I assume the stock is already salted
THIS. LOOKS. AMAZING.
ALSO 6:19 IS ADORABLEEEEEEE.
it's 1am right now and i'm having cravingsssss uuuugh
a very quick and easy recipe looves it
I am an Indian . And what Donal did is called Chicken Pulao . Chicken Pulao is another version of Biryani , cooked as above technique since ages . But now a days everyone in general is calling it Biryani , including me , though we cook this method . Those thinking What Donal did is not Biryani , can Relax . It is Biryani . It tastes the same as Biryani .
I loved the taste....Beautiful
So easy and nice. Thanx💕👍
LOVELY RECIPE WILL TRY IT VERY SOON.
I love it. Donal you are amazing. I added salt and garlic. It was amazing
amazing recipe with my favorite flavors
Yummy...great innovation
I think even being one pot biryani in ur own style, you could still have added many more ingredients which are part of actual Indian biryani... Please give it a try....
I really like your recepies and love your presentation and enthusiasm... Thanks..
You are the Picasso of easy cooking. Simply great
I would love to try it and tell how it tastes :) looks delicious
Lovely Donal u so positive and funny can't stop watching ur videos, so easy to cook with u. Last year I tried to cook ur lamb roast was amazing. I'd try this for now. Can u write in your receipts amount like how much water need to add and etc thanks for being u xx
Your way in cooking is amazing , keep going
I feel like it's missing some spices. And is it supposed to be that wet? I have never seen Biryani with wet rice.
Oh now so people are offended with food? I never thought we’d be there ...
We live in an era of people who are easily offended.
:-) I really loved the way (whatever it may be) you cooked biryani. Great work. Thumbs up.
Cooked it, it was delicious, and it's very easy to make.
I love this recipe!
Love it quick and easy, if you don't want to follow the original method 😍😍
Love this recipe!
Interesting, I like the simplicity, I am putting it on my todo list :)
Calm you farm, people. He never said it was authentic. It's just a recipe. People come up with new techniques and cheats all the time. Who cares? Just cook it the way you want. Also, the chicken stock may have been salted or he may have just forgotten. Again, cook it the way you want.
Don't be racist
This is fantastic! really liked it
For the color use saffron nit turmeric
Yo guys we all have our versions of biryani ... He must have made it the way he likes it or the spice or flavour which foreigners can handle
anoushka pakhare.
This tasted amazing!!! I made it!! 😍😍👌👌👌👌 thank you so much
Looks so yummy!
This remind me slightly to a malay dish especially for malay wedding, nasi minyak (oil rice). But the 'oil' word is from the melted margarine or ghee.Margarine/ghee make the rice so fragrant and rich.yumm...
Im from Pakistan.. Donal your recipe like always has been great & also the way you pronounce "biryani".. All perfect!!!
I am an indian, and this recipe is amazing ☺🙂🙂
I'm sure my Irish friends will love this when I make this version for them.Usually the spice tolerance is really low so I tone down the aromatics and chillies. But this version looks delicious too..But I love my authentic Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani any day ..🥰🥰
interesting take.is there any way I could do this without meat? It seems like the chicken is quite central to this dish, but I'd like to give it a shot anyways. Any recommendations?
Being Indian.. I feel you did a great job.. Keep it up..
Kids loved this more than our traditional family recipe (we are Indian). Less spicy and just gentler on their palates.
It is a very simple way of chicken biryani. But I would appreciate if try the traditional one also.
simplified but water is a little bit more. good finished basmati rice will be long and soft and good aroma and no water. also try not to use a yellow spices and try to put rice in water for half an hour after washing it and before adding it to the pan.
no salt?
This look more like Thai style briyani.. Just the look.. I don't know the recipe for it. But I love the Thai style biryani.. Maybe I should give this a try..
+Donal Skehan This sounds delicious but I can only eat brown rice. Can it be used as a substitute? Would it require a different cooking time?
I do a similar one pot biryani with vegetables and paneer (cottage cheese, protein substitute for vegetarians). It comes out fantastic!
best biryani i have ever have...
thanx man..😋😋😋😍😍😍😍😍
I made this today it was soo delicious
I apologize for all the hate you are getting Donal. You don't deserve it, but people have no life and need to feel self righteous over food even. That's what happens when they can't be open minded, or read the damn title, or hear you say it's a quick and easy way to make something tasty. I can't wait to try this. You would think it would be common sense for people to go home and make their butthurt version of their precious biryani but they have to express indignation or else the sky will fall. Keep doing what you do best and ignore the losers.
Cooking channels seem attract some of the worst of the worst YT commenters. I guess EVERYONE has an opinion about food and if it doesn't fit with what they know it's automatically grounds for outrage.
裁き I just don't understand why people get so upset over FOOD, and ALSO, Donal has a new baby to take care off!! Did people realize this before they go hating on him for something that is so trivial, which is consumed in a few minutes and gone, like, taste over authenticity should win every time. Just because it's a dish your country is proud of, doesn't mean it can never be switched up for a meal!! WTF?! It's so pathetic when a man is attacked for trying to help us make a quick tasty meal. I'm embarrassed to be from South Asia.
裁き oh I know, just agreeing with you :D
U sound pretty butt hurt ur self hahahha
We are filipino but we lovebiryani...but we taught its not easy to cook ..until i watch your show we learn its just easy to cook n learn by means of youChef Donal Skehan
Donal I love this version! PS: I make a super lazy biryani- make chicken curry and half way through I add 70% cooked rice and turn it to simmer! Done. Turns out good! So, there is no right or wrong...as long as it tastes yum!
i am definitely cooking it.
Donal I prepared ur recipe of one pot chicken biriyani and it turned out to be tasty and quick version of biriyani... I liked the taste and will prepare it in future... Thanks...
My favorite comments are the ones that dislike a dish, and list the ways that person should make it. Oh wait no one every does that. This was a cheat recipe right? I miss the days when it was okay to culturally exchange recipes without offense. Damn internet.
Whyso Mean and then youtube happened lmao
I will cook it.... So adorable to see..... Really u r so good.... Love u very much Donal 😍😍😍😍😍
Great recipe. Yeah it's not authentic but it's a humble, quick and easy version of a great dish for those of us who aren't skilled or patient cooks.
It is indeed very creative! I would have added a little lemon juice into it to give a further kick. Tell you what, being Indian descent, I know for sure that if you have these 5 spices in your cupboard you can pretty much cook anything:
Garam masala (buy the one which doesn't have coriander in it), red chilli powder, turmeric powder, whole cumin seed, whole seeds of coriander. And you're set!
Vow Donal..really appreciate! we all want something new to eat every day.. but we are too lazy. .ur recipes are really helpful for somone who wants to eat tasty food yet made quickly.. so wat if its not the authentic one? i think we shud keep the authentic ones for more energitic days..lol
Buddy .... you forget to add salt or its already in the stock ?
This was good! Thank you
How do you measure the chicken stock.
That’s amazing! I mean I’m Sri Lankan and seeing a hours and hours worth of recipe shortened to half an hour with key flavours! Just a quick tip, maybe a little less liquid cause I noticed as you played there was some broth on the plate and in other recipes as it would be amazing chicken biriyani is supposed to be dry so again, just a quick tip :)
RandomnessLOL I actually enjoy the broth rather than dry and he did say it's not the "traditional" Biryani.
Where can I buy that cast iron?
U didnt add so many spices....but good to see this new biryani😊
Indian Risotto 😋😋😋 yumm .. this iss soo Simple and very handy .. Dunno when I’ll try cuz I don’t know how to cook a rice without a rice cooker .. If I had too cook without rice cooker , I’ll use the old technique, just lik cooking a pasta but this one I don’t know, nor the ratio and I’ll burn the base rice cuz this dish had liquids in t .. guess u gotta reduce the quantity of the stock ... I have always stuffed my rice dish when I tried this method 😬
How did you know your tongs were going to work? You didn’t give them a few test clicks
Toshiya M. Agreed! They need to be snapped a few times.
Loved the recipe, but when was the salt added?
