- The #DraconisCombine in the aftermath of the #ClanInvasion would be intent on rebuilding its army, the #DraconisCombineMusteredSoldiery, or the #DCMS, to its fullest fighting power. To do that, the #Combine would need #Battlemechs, and #LuthienArmorWorks would provide.
The #Daimyo was the first of a new generation of machines that would appear, with lessoned learned from the wars, and with new technologies at the fingertips of the designers at LAW.
In this video, we are going to examine this #3055 Medium #Mech, and one of the better 40-tonners to first appear after the 3025 / 3050 #TechnicalReadouts.

One of the better 3055 designs. The Daimyo is what the Panther wanted to be, sans jump jets. The variants with C3 slaves and C3 Masters are excellent bases for a medium C3 company.
Agreed.
There are a lot of real gems in 3055 though, I hope people give them a chance to learn ab out them over the 3055 series. :)
I like how it specifically has the hips and legs of the kintaro; Truly the hips led it to victory.
A pretty lady once said, Hips don't lie.
Looks like a decent medium trooper 'Mech. Definitive improvement from Panther, more so than Wolftrap.
Oh yea, the Wolf-Trap, and I'd ever argue the Wolfhound, wouldn't wanna run into the Daimyo.
Always love seeing PPCs on smaller mechs. And yeah the Combine has funny attitudes towards its pilots.
The Daimyo suffered from me thinking it looked to goofy to use ... But this is arbitrary because i always thought the Vulcan looked cool. So don't go by my asthetics. 😂😂😂
I opened my dad's TRO book and seen some of the worst designed battlemechs I've seen ever. This one was among all of them. I was like "this has GOT to be a fodder mech". I was young and foolish then.
Granted, it looks stupid, but if it gets the job done, I guess it proves Laughter is just part of Slaughter.
When a battlemech and a Lippisch P.13a love each other very much......
This is one of those mechs that gives the opposing Lance fits. Stays in the fight longer than they'd like. Has respectable firepower if run properly. Then throw in the variants, you then have nightmares. Especially if you have the one with the C3 master. He'd hang back popping off shots. With their lancemates providing the targeting data. Yeah that's something you want to avoid.
I see you decided to just No Life it, and have the video out today. Respect.
I did indeed do that, lol
This is a mech that you have to remind yourself that it's only 40 tons.
The layout makes it feel like a 55 or 60. IMHO one of the best I/S mechs
for it's tonnage. In typical Kurita style it carries 2 tons of SRM ammo
but no CASE! Load up those Infernos!
Warcrimes on the horizon! lol
I've loved the Daimyo ever since I first came across it in the CCG. I've got a real soft spot for unassuming workhorses and the Daimyo may be my favourite of these.
It's really solid, people don't realize how much danger they are in when it appears on the table.
The Daimyo is a solid medium Mech and I think it was ahead of its time. Hoping we get it in plastic sooner than later.
Agreed. I'd love to see a Dark Age refit for it too.
@BigRed40TECH I keep thinking back to Scroggins and your discussion on which Mechs get redesigned first and how they're sorted into forcepacks.
I'm doing mental calculations in my head, trying to predict the next Mech release, and I do believe we'll see the Daimyo next year.
Some of my 3055 favorites has already been covered by BigRed (Hollander and Rakshasa) so waiting on a few others like the Battlehawk, Scarabus, Grim Reaper, Wrath, Tempest, Thunder, Penetrator, Salamander, Gunslinger, Naginata, and Grand Titan.
Apologies Sam, but... the Kodiak's 3058 :|
Vixen, Hellhound, Galahad, and Behemoth for the clan machines.
Holy smokes, this video came faster than I thought. I expected Tuesday.
I crunched all night lol
The Daimyo is a strong successor to the Panther. Faster, more firepower, better armor and better heat management. It only lacks jump jets. You can tell the design is inspired by the Panther.
I think the Daimyo would be better served in its role by dropping the SRM-6 and its 2 tons of armor and replacing them with 5 jump jets, 2 heat sinks and a flamer. The flamer would give this mech some anti-infantry capabilities. The added heat sinks would completely offset the additional heat load from the jump jets. Though it would probably be smarter to install 1 additional medium lasers and settle for 1 additional heat sink. This way the mech has more punch when not jumping.
Alternatively with the inclusion of jump jets, instead of adding heat sinks it might be desirable to upgrade the 2 medium lasers to pulse lasers. Losing the range on inner sphere pulse lasers hurts, but it makes some sense if you expect low skill pilots to be using this mech and jumping in short range combat. The loss of firepower could be made up by gaining more ability to get rear and flank shots.
The Daimyo is a respectable mech, outside of its ridiculous appearance. That is just one ugly mech begging for a significant redesign. The UFO sitting on top of the mech look needs to go.
This is the same company that manufactures the Jenner, so they're no stranger to ridiculous appearances.
The -2K is a scary example of a self-aware DCMS. Can't have too many of those for balancing reasons.
Great stuff! I can't say I'd ever had anything to consider about the Daimyo before this, so was definitely food for thought.
The PPC/SRM combo really sells its profile as a Panther successor. Ferro and double heat-sinks are on the cheaper end of advanced technologies to put on it, likewise with the ER-PPC being far more accessible than its Clan counterpart. I'm a bit surprised to see double heat sinks on it, as I thought in the post-Helm era, the Combine was a bit cheap on dolling out doubles. CASE is cheap and sensible as well, so it's disconcerting to see there's a lack of it to keep the SRM ammo safe, especially on the oversinked variants.
The quirk profile has that stellar, ever-overpowered narrow profile, and the extended torso twist really helps with its drive-by mobility in close-range, but matches it up with the Difficult to Maintain, which seems to really go against the nature of the mech. What's the point of having a sensibly-built low-end advanced platform like the Daimyo if it's going to take up unnecessary time and resources in maintenance?
Adaptability seems to be its greatest strength. An all-range medium that's decently protected, decently fast, and can fit in no matter what's going on. A generalist never suffers from being hard-countered, hence why so many survived and prospered during the Succession Wars. My only sticking points are the maintenance quirk, and the DCMS' belief that an ammo explosion is the most honorable way for a mechwarrior to die.
yea, it's super solid, I think a lot of people are sleeping on the Daimyo. It's definitely an asset in the 31st century.
As a proud member of The Dragon's military, I must say that ammo explosions are like seppeku ceremonies one might be able to see in space. An honorable end if there ever was one.

Hey BigRed! I hope it has been a good Sunday thus far. Also, I got to say: the artwork for this one is a little bit… yeah 😅. You can probably guess what I mean.
The Daimyo’s speed profile and default armament make me wonder if it was inspired by the older Gladiator 4R, but was changed enough to shed all the baggage that the Gladiator had. Not unlike how Luthien Armor Works did for the Mauler and its previous iterations as the Linesman/Daboku.
The Gladiator didn't exist in 1992 when this was originally made, so I don't think so lol
@@BigRed40TECH IRL really needs to sort its lore out so that our niche hobbies can have more consistency!
Not gonna lie, the daimyo seriously looks like it's wearing a futuristic frisbee with an engine mounted on it.😅
And while the enemies are observing this, they're getting lit up by that Lord's Light PPC :P
Look, it’s not a frisbee, it’s a murder mushroom.
Damn right. @@baker90338
@@baker90338 so is the original King Crab design, your point?
@@Primearch-GG the king crab got claws, this don’t.
I'm actually really impressed with this mech. Going bring one to my next game. 40t Is one of my favorite weight bracket
I look forward to salvaging one of these some day
3055 was the first TRO i got as a kid. I remember these mechs fondly. I run a 5K in my Sword of Light C3 company, it leads my light lance and does well.
I have a serious soft spot for the Daimyo. Sure it's a 40-tonner, but it's got good armor, respectable speed, and a very solid arsenal, while avoiding the oh-so-tempting and risky Inner Sphere XL engine. A superb and affordable trooper, whether you wanna consider it an upscaled Panther, or the Kuritan version of the Vindicator.
I do want to try out a Daimyo one day. I wont lie, its ugly, but that wont stop me from running one, and there are certainly worse looking mechs out there. I am curious how the art team will tackle this project.
Awesome lil Mech. Great video. Thank Red!
A solid mech that would be respectable to have in a lance.
Absolutely.
I remember using this meck! Don't ask me for details I don't know let alone remember. All I do recall is that I fought 30 regiments!!! And only suffered little to no damage!!!
Nice run through of a mech I was ignorant of :)
We cover them in order. :)
Always overlooked this design, mainly on looks (I think). Def have to reassess.
The Dragon will need more Mechs like the Daimyo for the Ill-clan age! For an update, Give the Daimyo a Clan ER Large laser, two Clan ER medium lasers, a Clan Streak SRM-6 with 1 ton of ammo (WITH A CASE 2!), and three more Double heat Sinks!
I always wondered about that odd, saucer shaped head. I felt there should be some kind of E.W.O equipment in there.
The new artwork definitely is tons better. Even so, it’s nickname should be the Samurai Saucer
Endorsed an ER LL over an ER PPC? Red are you ok?
In all seriousness, 3055 mechs like this are under appreciated. Awesome to see them covered!
I wish we'd get new art and a new design for this one, the old art has not aged well
Agreed!
Oh you're doing tro 3055 now, okay. I thought the fireball was in one off episode.
Okay, I’m more sold on this little guy now.
One of my favorite troopers, i have made great usage as a cheap officer for my c3 battleline lance. I can even slot it into my assault lance.
It's really a great mech.
If they're going to downgrade the ER PPC to an ER LL, at least put in CASE. It's got the room in the torso, and would make this a great medium 'mech.
Then again, it would be more thematic going CASE-less, because we all know how Kuritans love going out - honorably - in a [ammo] blaze of glory.
Honestly I find it's very telling that seemingly one of the few ways to reliably escape the 40 ton curse is to outfit a mech like its a 50 tonner.
Seriously though this thing basically has the weapons load out that I use in mw5 for the AL centerion laserboat.
Daimyo my beloved. Also known as "What if 40 tonner, but made to be a lance leader? And not cursed like many other 40 tonners."
"Don't alpha strike with it every turn.
No Seriously.
Stop it."
I feel attacked!
One of the better IS medium mechs. Cheap, capable and durable, it really needs to lose a ton of SRM ammo for case and even more armor. I'm actually surprised there is no official heavy PPC variant. Pull out the SRM 6 and ER PPC for a heavy PPC, medium laser and extra double heat sink and you've got the DCMS version of the Hollander...
Just not much attention has been paid to 3055 mechs since the early 2000's sadly :(
Love your content. Please do the Apollo and the Nightsky
Check out the latest community post for the planned progress of the videos.
The 4K is almost a Disco Saucer if it had Pulse Laser's
Discover fever! Discover fever!
Take the 2K and swap the SRM 6 for an SSRM 4 and one ton of ammo. Now add the C3 Slave that this mech needs. And every 4th mech just drops in the C3 master for the SRM's. Oh and up-grade the ML's for ERML's. And your still cool running.
It is somewhat of a glaring omission for case to not be included in many of the daimyo models, although having case turns an A or B class field refit it takes to turn a 1k into a 2k or 4k into a E class factory refit. Although that's just for refitting existing models, its really no excuse for the new ones rolling off the lines ;) Still a very solid design, which isn't the DCMS throwing CASE, endosteel, and XL engines in new designs or refits which have double heat sink weapons profiles on a single heat sink mech.
Yea, I think its a fantastic mech myself.
Its just so Damn sensible, which isn't a given in early DCMS foundtech mechs@@BigRed40TECH
Great med mech Honor to the Dragon.
Honour the Dragon!
Those 2 tons Double heat sinks rather than JJ is criminal if n the 4k.
The 5k can be a game changer.
The fire-power set up reminds me of the TDR-5SS, on a faster platform.
An economical machine and very capable one at that. A nice pairing with Kintaros and Trebuchets.
I want to see what CGL does when they revisit it, all I can see is its cowboy hat and codpiece
I've run diamyos in my opfor before. They are relatively easy to play
"Don't alpha strike every turn. No, seriously. Stop it."
I laughed!
great video as usual
I appreciate the response :D
My kind of 40 ton Battletoad
The CASE would have been just outside of the allotted budget. Or maybe the DCMS had problems with adequate CASE production. I don't know... What I do know is that oversinking means suitable for desert warfare and resistant to heat inducing weapons.
Ironic that the Daimyo is less than half the weight of the Shogun.
Clearly Luthien Armor Works did not have a whiz kid problem in the design dept .
XD
Awesome review! Love the design, hate the aesthetic. It’s so fugly, I won’t field the model. If I field one at all, it’s the the C3M version and it’s a non-BT mini.
The 4K is what you bring if you are worried about flammers or operating in hot environments.
Where does the premiere animation come from? It look awesome.
It's literally CZcams's for "Sci FI".
If they didn't want me to keep mashing the alpha strike button they would give me a sword!
Purple Bird has a lot more decent mechs then I thought.
This is red Dragon, but Purple Bird has a ton of mechs in 3055 too
I like the Daimyo, but I gotta know if it truly is a Draconis Combine 'mech; How is it at exploding civilians?
With Inferno rounds, exceptional.
Wow.
Never embraced mediums? Didn´t the combine bend over backwards to get hunchie productionlines to luthien?
It's specifically noted that not many mediums get pushed out by the DCMS for a ton of its history.
@@BigRed40TECH And yet some of their greatest heroes and commanders rode in hunchbacks. While the DCMS isn`t build arround a medium tropper mech like with all other succesor states, they do embrace them whenever a worthwhile design comes arround. The daimyo is just their first domestic design worthy of that love

Glory to the Dragon.
Ah yes, da murder mushroom.
Should have used endo-steel structure. Marginal cost increase for great benefit.
Can you build it in Mass can you maintain it in Mass can you filled it in Mass then that is a great weapon system
it's a scorpion on two legs!
Typo at 14:43, SRM8
Nope, it's just the script-type. That is a 6.
So it's a bigger Urbanmech with the crippling downside of being ugly and suffering the disability that is being Kuritan.
Well, that's... a take. :|
lol
The Daimyo variants have to be oversinked so spikey haired street punks can overclock their engines while having dystopian Mecha adventures.
I now see the world for its true form. Thank you! :P
The Diamyo (Great Lord according to google) is extinct, no? They didn't rebuild all the production lines as opposed to replacing them with something or MOAR of something else?
Still available on MUL for the Combine.
Red when no C.A.S.E.: 😡😡😡
Daimyo definitely needs new art, its goofy looking.
I agree. But the mech itself is decent.
yup
NANNI???
Kuritans not having their own mediums? Oh no, they did have them. They have their own variants of the Wolverine, the Shadowhawk, the Phenixhawk etc., but mostly these were inferior due to the lack of JJs. Sure they lacked their own iconic design at that weight class till they built the Wolf Trap, but it's not like they ignored them entirely. Also their industrial base was quite weak, so the prevalence of the light designs was mostly due to them being less resource intensive and their heavies were likely those that were surviveable enough to last in spite of the lower production rates. Mediums are usually in the spot where they cost more than lights, but are not durable enough.
As I mentioned, they used Wolverines and PXH's in the video.
But their forces literally had the lowest volume of mediums compared to other houses. It was NOT a focus for the Combine.
@@BigRed40TECH True, but it was mostly a necessity, because they could never match the industrial might of their neighbours, so they focused on scrappy little guys and tough bigger guys to make up the numbers.
@@vojtechpribyl7386 They focused quite heavily on Heavy-mechs as well, unironically. It was more a matter of their desires tactically. They did have mediums, they used them, but the focus was much more guided towards lights and heavies, than it was on mediums.
@@BigRed40TECH Indeed, but heavy production with the exception of the Dragon and the Quickdrw was also quite limited and their heavies were filling in for assaults a bit. Sure they had Stalkers and Atlases, but never enough, because their other assault i production was the Charger. Limited industry.

The DCMS has made some ugly 'mechs, but I kinda like this one. It's got charm, and 40-ton mediums don't get enough love.
Meh sorry
