This episode was filmed on February 12th 2022, 12 days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We have been asked by the designer of this apartment, Olga Bondar, and our NTS team in Kyiv to share the beauty of Ukrainian design in hope that it will bring further attention and support for the people of Ukraine and the inhumanity of their situation.
Located in the middle of the most densely populated district in Kyiv, Ukraine, Fayna town is a modern and vibrant residential complex built in place of a derelict vegetable factory and greenhouse. Inside one of the apartment blocks is the aptly named Pinkyellow, a bright and colourful space by Ukrainian designer Olga Bondar. Originally an empty shell, Bondar cleverly adjusted the floor plan, creating a compact, comfortable space using bespoke furniture and cleverly concealed rooms and appliances. In the open plan living space, a full size low back sofa was carefully selected for comfort and to reduce visual clutter, whilst a framed TV appears like artwork on the wall. In the compact but full kitchen, the fridge blends into the kitchen's pink walls, and a small bar counter divides the kitchen from the living room; while also creating a work space. Behind a hidden door opposite the living room the bedroom features floating furniture and a custom made podium storage bed, whilst the dressing room lies neatly tucked away behind a curtain, allowing the client to open up the space or close it away to hide clutter.

This is one of my favourite tiny apartment designs. They managed to fit a comfy sofa, TV that you can actually watch from the sofa and loads of storage without having to climb up a ladder to get to the bed, have a big cube right in the middle of the room or have to rearrange the furniture multiple times a day. Also looks beautiful.

I hope the war will end soon, the life of all Ukrainians has changed drastically in one moment.. Please, to all who reads it, I just want you to know, that Ukraine didn’t want war, we didn’t kill Russian speaking people, the half of the population is Russian speaking, and they lived without any problems, everyone is confirming that, and of course, when in 2014 Russian army invaded Crimea and then Donbass region, Ukraine had to send troops to Donbass to fight against Russian military, not against people, who lived there! That the manipulation, that Russian propaganda tell’s everywhere. Don’t believe them, Ukrainians know better what is going on in Ukraine, than Russia, it’s logical!

Such an apartment is irreplaceable, It might have sentimental artifacts the person had to leave behind and obviously people's lives are the MOST important, but having a home is not something you just get for cheap at a shop. Building your home and customizing it for your lifestyle and personality can take years of hard labor and a lot of financial expenses that the person might not be able to afford after such distraction. A home should be a protected safe place that should not be taken away from anyone. 💛💙

But the apartment is wonderfully done! I love the pops of yellow, especially by the window! Brilliant!
Creating your own sunny feeling is so important when there are long, dark, grey days.

I’m sorry but we don’t have innocent Russian civilians, cause the most of them support politics of their president, and those who don’t support are silent or scared of imprisonment, while people of Ukraine protest against armed enemy army, they are afraid of their own policemen. They only began their “massive” protests almost week after invasion, cause firstly they believed Ukraine would be already occupied, secondly they are starting to feel sanctions hitting them already and are afraid that their comfortable life’s would be hurting, while Ukrainians suffer of shelling and bombing , hiding in shelters, and thirdly russians are now afraid of mobilization, afraid to be send on war.
Our people are dying, our innocent children are dying, our defenders are dying, cause 1 man decision or because Russian civilians choose to silently support it, as it was 8 years ago with Crimea and Donbas, 14 years ago with Georgia and many more conflicts russia caused and started. So please forgive me if I don’t have empathy for russian civilians, and ask you to do the same, cause it’s not them who are victims, so please don’t make them. Victim here are Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians. We are standing here for all civilized world and it’s values against crazy dictator, because 150 million of russian people could not revolt for democracy, so 40 million Ukrainian people have to do this for them?
