That brought back great memories of a day trip to Bakewell that I did with my family a good few years ago. We were stopping in Swanwick (thich was a great base) and visited Buxton on the same day, trouble is the weather was appalling, it threw it down all day! I fondly remember buying traditional Bakewell tarts from a local Bakers in Bakewell and they were absolutely delicious. Great movie and great music score too.

I've never been to Bakewell for a long time Patrick. You've shown and explained things on this video that both myself and my partner never knew about the town. There's some lovely old buildings in those streets that go back a few centuries, and give a real charm to the place. There's plenty of green space about and the River Wye bridges are spectacular. Bakewell station is thankfully preserved, and years ago there used to be a camping coach in one of the sidings, The station was never served by the Manchester to London expresses, but by the Derby to Manchester and return stopping trains. Hassop station is gladfully in situ as well. Many thanks for this brilliant video, Patrick, and keep well.

Fantastic Patrick. I loved the fact about the tarts. Who doesn't like Bakewell tart? As for the museum good job they saved that house. It's simply beautiful. To think they were going to demolish it Another good walk with a few good people and laughs along the way. And hey a bit of YHA history to. You sure did get about. Well, have a great weekend. Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for that. Yeah a great story about the old Bakewell Puddings eh. The old house museum too a lovely building indeed, and it is great that it was saved. This was a nice short stroll to film meeting a few people on the way, so a very enjoyable day in all. I did travel a lot in my younger days staying in many YHAs, probably visit more places in the future where I stayed long before. Good to hear from you as always Mark. Enjoy your weekend too. Patrick 👍

Hi Patrick. Another fascinating film. Bakewell is certainly a popular and stunning place. I remember when I was at school, our teacher brought in Bakewell Pudding. I was expecting some kind of Mr Kipling style thing 😆. I must admit that I prefer the Mr Kipling style cake. I know, I’ll go and hang my head in shame 🤣

My “uncle” Phil used to live on Monyash Road in Bakewell. He was really my dads cousin. One time he lent me his bike when we were visiting so I could get about on my own. This was before I had my license. Anyway I set off down the steep hill on the wrong side of the road since I live in the US. When I got to the bend at the bottom I realized my mistake when I met a bus coming up. Somehow I went right across the front of the bus to the left side and as he was going slowly I didn’t crash. After that adjustment I was OK but not a good start. That made an indelible impression…..

I love watching your walk's, i never want them to end. What a beautiful part of the country Derbyshire is and right on your doorstep too. Originating from south Manchester, i spent many happy days in Derbyshire and most of our school trips were around there. My mother worked ay Kiplings cakes so I've seen more Bakewell puddings than anyone i know. Excellent as always, cheers.
