Don Imus -66AM WNBC read off every school in the tri-state area, except for my school in Woodside, Qns. Mom said, you have to go. I was 10, in the 4th grade and the snow drifts were taller than I was! I made it to school, and some man yelled at me, "Hey kid, what are you doing?""Schools closed!" I tunneled my way home with a huge smile on my face! The next adventure was to go get milk and the Associated was rationing. But the manager said I could have a half-gallon which was amazing because the milk was almost all gone and there wouldn't be anymore deliveries! About 15 years later, I ran into Don in an elevator and told him my story and he laughed, then apologized for missing my school!
I was 10. I went to that same elementary school ( GATELOT) & remember vividly school closed for 10 days. I lived behind Burger King on portion road! We played ice hockey all week on the frozen lake Ronkonkoma. Best winter EVER!

I was 18 and living in Brooklyn , a friend and I hooked up with a snow removal company and we started out around 10 PM the night the blizzard was still hitting Brooklyn , we along with 10 other guys worked all throughout the night right into the mid morning 9 am or so, going from one place to another this company had contracts with for snow removal , after just about 12 hours the manager said that's it , my friend and I made almost 200 dollars each for shoveling snow , for 2 teenagers that was more than we ever made for one nights work .
We used to make bank as kids shoveling walks! Then we would spend the day at the local burger joint drinking hot coco, playing video games and pinball! Life was good!
