    the only thing that is holding me back from buying it is the $40 entry fee, this seems like a great $20 game, so in a year or so, will pick it up, but only when it is $20 or under, $40 for this game is a bit too rich for my blood, but i tried the demo and liked it, for a decent price.

      Yeah, that's very rich for an 8 stage arcade game you could conceivably blow through in a long day of play - you can get AA/AAA games on sale with 100+ hours for that price.

    Funny how you say it "rarely" drops frames while I can regularly spot it stuttering and dropping frames in your footage, something other reviewers have called out the Switch version for as it leads to a fluctuating input latency and unfair player deaths. Whatever tools you're using for framerate analysis, you need to revamp them.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze still looks amazing and it’s 10yrs old and if I’m not mistaken it runs 60fps so how can this not do the same when also DKTF looks better than this game. I smell that this was Konami’s decision. Even though the game doesn’t look bad it’s just hard to believe the Switch can’t run this game at 60fps when they have other games that has a lot more going on screen or better graphics period that runs at 60fps so I hate it for the Switch players but other than that I loved the demo and can’t wait to play this game. Meh, the graphics look too similar to Contra Returns on mobile. Cheap cash in on purely nostalgia rather than giving us something NEW as an action side scroller. $40 is way too expensive for this and it’s ashame the Switch version got gimped in the framerate. Goes to show Konami didn’t really put much into this game or the series as a whole.

    I am confused. The demo had noticeable stuttering, terrible lag and couldn't maintain a framerate of 30 frames in many situations. So, have there been significant improvements since the demo? Then why is Nintendo Life mentioning all those problems and more in their review, I quote: "The game's Switch demo, released several weeks prior to launch, was poorly received, with a crippled frame rate, freezes, and chronic lag. Even the PC version, while infinitely superior, was full of glitches. We expected the glitches to be fixed because the demo was actually a custom-built entity that combined elements of the first and third stages, but we still encountered legs in the floor, an enemy who disappeared into the floor, and on one occasion no music playing after hitting continue.
    Glitches, however, are minor irritants compared to the game's performance, which on Switch is frankly unacceptable. It pains us greatly to say this, especially considering how good an underlying game there is here, but you may want to seriously think twice about getting this version. The graphics are fine, with textures expectedly losing detail compared to the PC version, but certainly not in a way that's a dealbreaker. But the frame rate, which is meant to be locked at 30fps, is a mess, and seems to regularly fall below the promised threshold. You're going to see constant chugs, background scrolling jerks, and borderline freezes. This, in turn, affects the game's control sensitivity, the severity of its lag seeming to fluctuate depending on the frame rate's behaviour. Often unfairly slow to respond, it can get you killed, and the game feels much harder to play than the 60fps Steam version because it's all so janky. Weirdly, there's no consistency with how the frame rate responds, seeming to improve inside stage four's Lab."
    www.nintendolife.com/reviews/nintendo-switch/contra-operation-galuga
    To the other commenters wondering why the Switch is having such performance issues here: Since WayForward scrapped their in-house engine and switched to Unity, their games have been consistently struggling with technical shortcomings on the Switch. Considering where most of the developer's customers are located, this was a fatal decision.

    • @syltendo
      @syltendo Před 2 měsíci

      The simple answer is that not everybody notices input lag the same way, if at all. For me the demo on Switch was unacceptable, to others it was perfectly fine.

    • @Oliver-1984
      @Oliver-1984 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@syltendoThis, however, doesn't explain why the NWR review talks about a more or less stable frame rate of 30 frames per second, while the reviewer from Nintendo Life lists one technical problem after another. Subjective perceptions are all well and good, but I can't really understand this difference. Has there perhaps been a patch very recently? And to be fair, the footage in this review does look more stable than the demo I played.

    • @syltendo
      @syltendo Před 2 měsíci

      @@Oliver-1984 No idea. The input lag was enough for me to not care about the game anymore, at least on Switch. I’ll keep an eye on possible patches addressing that but I doubt it will ever get fixed.

    Paying for games isnt that insane, people always seem to imply that they should be cheaper. Do they expect developers to work for free? The big issue is that there are a lot of games and we want them. They complain when there arent enough games out and then complain when they are too expensive.
