    Monster Chinook (King) Salmon fly fishing on the Caterina River in Argentina, these fish grow to over record size, with many already been caught over 90lb on the fly. Every year Chinook Salmon go up the Caterina River from the Atlantic Ocean, crossing the whole Santa Cruz river and then the Argentinian Lake (the biggest in the country) to arrive at these waters. This journey ensures that only the strongest fish arrive at this destination and over the years the strain of these fish have produced some of the toughest Kings / Chinook to be found anywhere in the world. Prepare to be amazed at the size of these fish and the sheer power these big fish have.

    A strong hold for a threatened spices, magnificent, protect those fish by any means. I hear China has put themselves in and around those locations, by giving 50 billion to influence there control. Dont let them destroy those rivers and fisheries.

    What the hell do they eat in Jurasick lake? They are similar to what we call gerrard rainbows in BC as they reach this size. Do these fish have a short lifespan of about 8 years or so?

    • @SportquestHolidaysDestinations
      @SportquestHolidaysDestinations  Před 9 lety +1

      Marc MacIntyre These fish are not from Jurassic Lake as they are all Rainbows these King Salmon buddy.

      Marc MacIntyre we have these in Alaska...they eat in the ocean that's how they get big also king salmon can be 3,4,5and 6 salt fish these are most like!y 5 or 6 salt fish, meaning they spend that long at sea.

    We have dealt with the same issue on the west coast Atlantic salmon escaping and our fisheries said they would not attempt to spawn. They have been seen in pairs and there is a catch and kill order for them I believe.

  • @flyderaght
    @flyderaght Před 9 lety +1

    Damn, that is a well kept secret. I am from the west coast of Canada originally actually. i take it they do not occur naturally. Nice fish though. Are you using big dark buggers to irritate them?

    • @SportquestHolidaysDestinations
      @SportquestHolidaysDestinations  Před 9 lety +1

      Marc MacIntyre Hi Marc, yes they are all natural fish it just took many years before people realised there came that far inland. Great new fishery you should come join us on a trip.
      Rgds Peter

    • @flyderaght
      @flyderaght Před 9 lety

      Sportquest Holidays It does not surprise me they go that far inland as the chinook in BC swim hundreds of miles inland. I take it the salmon are an introduced species and not natural. Do you guys drift egg patterns under them to target trout? Trout will swim under them and then bump the females to knock some eggs loose. I imagine fry patterns are quite good in the spring.

    • @sangredecase
      @sangredecase Před 9 lety +3

      Marc MacIntyre Chinooks are not native to South America Marc however they were stocked there in the 1930's and have flourished in the glacial fed rivers perfect for salmonid spawning. To this day there are stable spawning runs in several Patagonian rivers.

    • @flyderaght
      @flyderaght Před 9 lety +2

      Marc MacIntyre That is really interesting actually. I did not know they had done so that far back.

      Its amazing really, Argentina first received Brown Trout in 1904 and have since had self sustaining sea run and river based populations.
