Why My DIY Litter Cube Litter Box is the Best.

  • I've attempted to address some of the comments I've seen in my DIY video. Overall, I thought I'd explain why my idea is superior to anything else I've tried or seen. Also to point out problems in other boxes that inspired this idea along with fostering kittens in the past. This video is also a Thank you for the views and likes and comments (good or bad) and subscribers. I best make more videos for my subs right!? :)

    this is actually a genius idea, i don't know why i never thought of something like this before since i'm really creative and handy too. i will be having surgery soon so i'm looking for ways to make cleaning up after my pets easier so i won't have to over do myself and end up getting hurt or risk opening the incision, and this seems like a wonderful alternative to a $400+ self cleaning box that i can't afford, i'll probably even use this after i've healed too since it could make cleaning up faster and more efficient

      Thanks for sharing. Hope you heal up well.
      The system does work really well.
      My basket scoop finally broke a while back and I haven't made a new one yet.
      But I still use the tilting method to expose the clumps and poop and scoop with a large metal scoop. Tilt and sift is definitely the way to go regardless of the scoop size.
      Drilling so many holes to make the basket scooper/sifter is kind of a back breaker just as a warning.
      Good luck

    One thing I didn't fully point out about the Omega Paw litter box is that if a cat pees on the sifting grate you will have half a pee clump inside the sifting compartment and the other outside, AND sticking clump pieces on the grate too.
    I have a 3rd box not featured in this video. My darling wife did mention that she "can't lift it with a finger." while it may be true that not EVERYONE will be able to maneuver the scoop with one finger... We can conclude this DIY design has a little bit of a learning curve. After a few uses it makes sense and becomes a very easy task. 95% of the time or more I am the one to clean the litter boxes. My kitties Love me, they know who takes care of them though I might be gone at work often ☺️

    • @Byromie
      @Byromie  Před 3 lety +1

      Indeed. Can't beat simplicity. I've been using a giant sized storage bin on wheels with a handle the last year. I don't have a giant basket scooper made for it, but I keep thinking about it. For now I've been using the largest hand-scoop I could find but still using the motions and concept of tilting the litter back and forth to facilitate removal of waste. That's all this idea is... A GIANT basket-like hand scoop to scoop all the contents at once. 😺
      How you been Pavel? Hope all is happy, healthy, and well. All good here.
      Check this out. Picked up eFoiling now that competition has drove the price down. Stoked to be surfing/ floating Lake Powell again. Been meaning to start a CZcams channel for this too, but just so darn busy to even keep my current channel(s) up to date. I feel less strained keeping casual short-video Instagram current vs the longer try-hard videos of CZcams. I probably need to approach CZcams the same way.

      @@pavelportnov8344 1st I was dreaming about motorized surfboard, but it was too expensive and I still had time for wakeboarding then. 2nd came efoil and onewheel about the same time. eFoil looked so much more fun and unique than the surfboard, but still too expensive. So I saved and bought onewheel.
      At first the onewheel supplemented wakeboarding, but then it replaced it because It takes too much time (and money) to wakeboard.
      I've been really missing my lake time and last year WAYDOO had a Kickstarter for a new entry-level eFoil. So I took a little chance and bought one with $1k savings of the Kickstarter.
      It takes 3 plus hours to go out on a boat with a crew, but the eFoil takes me away from my house for only 2hours. It feels sooo good to be back on Lake Powell and flying! 🕊️

    Plus, the Omega snapped @the sifter part....I had to remove it, & expand the pan. Albeit, your pan design is very unique,
    & very useful.
    Some people are just plain lazy, don't want to wipe a little clump, or shake it off if stuck. The Luuup is a huge waste of money...

      @Byromie  Před 6 lety +1

      CMS Sultana I've actually never used anything other than clumping litter. I've heard of the other stuff, but it always seems much more expensive. I'm kind of a "best bang for the buck" kind of guy... But maybe if I tried it I'd actually find that the BANG warranted the extra cost.
      No matter the used litter though, I imagine that tilting any box, shifting the litter to help expose the waste for removal will be handy.
      The idea for my box was partially birthed from me tilting my ordinary box to better scoop out the waste with a hand scoop

      Thanks. True, it is not a good idea to keep food near the box. Who eats in or near their bathroom, right? I think many people do it out of convenience... Or to create a sort of, "cat room" or "cat area"
      I have my treat/ wet food dishes near the litter box. Those dishes only have food in them for a brief moment each day at least.
      It's also a good idea to have a couple feet distance or more between food and water so that your cat is less likely to get food in the water and make the water gross. Even more true if you have a water fountain ⛲ feeder. It makes the filter and pump work harder when food gets in

      My green box was retired and I can't measure it. I've since gone to Top entry and no longer bother with cutting a side entry.
      If you're still planning a side entry I'd say 6 inches. This will leave a couple extra inches to help keep litter inside when the cat is digging. 4 inches is usually the MAX depth of litter to be used. A door that is 6 inches from the bottom will leave exactly 2 inches of a threshold... Or rather a "litter-hold" 😹

      @Byromie  Před 3 lety

      @@iknowyouwanttofly I no longer use the lid with the opening because this particular bin shown in the video is not tall enough for a cat to sit up straight. I want my kitties to be able to have sufficient comfortable space so they can go about their business pooping 💩 similar to the way they would outdoors.
      Not sure if I know what you mean by dumping in. The large basket scoop can be difficult at times to empty into a small trash can. Sometimes I simply dump the clumps and poop on the surface of the litter then use a typical hand shovel to easily scoop everything off the top to accurately put it in the can without dropping a single grain of litter 😹

      @Byromie  Před 6 lety

      💩That's kinda funny. And yet not so funny💩 It had a good idea but has some major flaws. Especially if you got cats that pee or poop in corners of boxes. They pee on the sifter grate and you end up with 1/2 a clump inside and 1/2 outside the sifting compartment.
      Mine will have a similar problem a little bit, mainly because of the bins not fitting perfectly flush inside one another clear to the bottom. ( a problem that would have been remedied with their real marketable idea vs this DIY one) but the problem is rare and cleanup is easy when it happens. Just a big tap on the scoop shakes it off. Then scoop again.

      I'm hoping to build one or two for a giveaway later, but none yet has bought one from me (out of my local area), because shipping alone is $50 because of the size! Add another $50 for materials and workmanship. $100. Unless you live close to Lake Powell, then shipping will be lower.
      At this price you probably better off building it yourself 😔. Really wish I could have brought this to market. Maybe someday. Litter box market is over saturated with sub par boxes or super expensive ones. It was hard to get investors to notice such a simple but functional design.
      Anyway... I've separated my cats topics to a separate channel (Cats & Fluff) to better benefit my viewers and subs who watch my cat content. I think it'll be beneficial to me too in the long run. I have

    You put the litter box in the linen closet?!! What about the dust and smell?

      There's an air filter in the room. It does a good job. Litter box is routinely cleaned. I add baking soda to it sometimes.
      Most of what is stored in that room is household tools, the vacuums, laundry machines and soap, other cleaning products and supplies. Cat food and cat stuff. The only linens or towels stored there are rags and dirty clothes bin for rags
      I'm not worried about the dust and things in there. Another large box is in the master bathroom.
      Overall, my home is very busy and crowded. 8 people and 5 cats. 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Never a dull day... Gotta improvise sometimes 😺

      @@Byromie understood. I'm such a neat freak and I know how bad the dust from my cat litter coats everything! They have their own room and I have to wash the walls regularly so that's why I was grossed out, lol.

      We all help out around the house. My 6 year old son vacuums the floors often recently.
      Speaking of vacuum, check out my 1st impressions review of the lupe Vacuum (best stick vacuum ever).

      I decided to break up my channel a while back. I do tips and reviews on ModnaR Spit.
      Continued cats stuff on "Cats & Fluff" channel. Though I'm hoping to get one last important cat video put here on my main Byromie channel.
      I try to deligate and rotate chores out to all able persons. We had a milk jug break on the floor last night. I and my 12 year old helped clean that before it became a bigger mess. 6 kids 4 cats.
