    I am an old SL / ASL fan from WAAAAY back to the 70's I had original Squad Leader and got Cross of Iron, Crescendo of Doom, and GI Anvil of Victory in the early 80's . Much later in life I picked up an ASL rulebook Beyond Valor, Paratrooper, Yanks, Partisan, West of Alamein, The Last Hurrah, Hollow Legions, Code of Bushido, Gung Ho, Croix de Guerre. Also added 6 historical module including the Deluxe ASL. Never did master the rules to be honest. Life, work, kids, I still have pride looking at my collection on the bookshelf, but almost all my wargaming is on the computer for the last 20 years. I will always be an ASL fan.

    Not only do I cut out all the counters I must trim each and every corner. All in special plastic boxes neatly arranged. Now I am in a rocking chair at Sunny Rest Home for the mentally deranged...

      I hope there are at least a few asl players at the Sunny Rest Home for ya to clobber with your fancy punched units. 😁

    I just ordered Beyond Valor based on your video. I bought the rulebook a while back to supplement the starter kits, but was never brave enough to go "all in" with Module 1. Thanks for the nudge!

      From Cool Stuff Inc. I'm not sure what shipping to Scotland would be. They still have some in stock: www.coolstuffinc.com/p/138035

      @@WARdROBEPlaysWWII The green is for level 0. It has nothing to do with what it actually looked like. It could be dirt, grass, sidewalk, rocky field, or even a town square. Same for buildings and trees. Could be winter but trees will still be green. I always think of the maps more like a schematic then a picture.

    No Move counter: applies to night rules. The rule reference is on the counter.
    BF 24: Bow Flamethrower on the tank. Very nasty. :)
    The black counters with the flashes are muzzle blast counters for night scenarios.
    1st edition came out in 1985.
    2nd edition included Red Barricades
    3rd Edition has everything you showed. Interestingly, only 1 scenario from Cross of Iron made it to BV: Debacle at Koresten. :)

    • @johnran6015

      $20 you say, I looked up getting this and the 2nd edition rulebook and it comes to a whopping $220.00 with shipping. $20!?!? I mean it is just a bunch of paper and cardboard, but I've read nothing but praises for ASL, only youtube comments are saying negative things.

    • @vincentk3502
      @vincentk3502 Před 7 lety +1

      ASL is great. I played SQ in 1978 when I was a young kid... I played ASL later on in my Teenage years... I would still play it again if I could find someone in my area.
      I collected all the SL and almost all the ASL modules; missing just a few new ones.
      ASL is not for the simple minded person. Maybe rules and much time put into it to learn and apply them. My cousins use to say 'You were born to play ASL, not taught."

  • @Trebz50

    Can someone explain to me why they are so expensive?

    • @WARdROBEPlaysWWII
      @WARdROBEPlaysWWII  Před 2 lety

      I can’t. Because they can? I have a limited grasp on the pricing of games. The components are one thing, the hours of design and scenario design account for some element.

    This isn't a game of Monopoly we have here. I don't have enough little grey cells (or patience) to even think of entertaining this game. Too complex. Let's have a game of table tennis, more my style...
