Over the years I've received questions about beards from guys as young as 11 and 12 years old. In this video I share my beard journey which started around 15 years old. Your beard development will be uniquely yours and will change as you grow older. When your beard starts to grow will be different than those around you. Genetics will play a large role into the development and rate of growth of your beard.
For me personally, it wasn't until my late teens that I had enough growth to actually wear some facial hair with some confidence. Through my 20's is when I saw the most development and into my 30's is when I had the confidence to grow my beard out fully with length. - Jak na to + styl

My friend grew a beard in 8th grade as you said it wasnt fully thick and coarse but he had a solid beard and then on our senior year his beard is basically fully developed and a nice beard

I dont even have a beard yet and people who were in their 20s hit on me thinking I was 18 or 19, and my brother was told he was a creep for talking to 18 year olds while he was 18 too and he had no beard xd. But now he has a masterful beard and long hair

Currently 20. I will be 21 in September. Right now I can grow a mean Amish style beard, my mustache, soul patch, and cheeks are still filling in. The hairs are there, and are slowly maturing. Also, you are absolutely right about patience. The key to growing an excellent beard has always been patience. For the longest time I’ve wanted to grow a beard, and as a teenager, I was always waiting for the day my beard would just pop in all at once. Obviously that day never came, but it taught me that patience is key.
At which age complete beard on chicks came? I am 20 with beard only on chin no side beard very thin hair was there in chicks

When I was 21 I couldn't grow a beard if I tried. I also looked very young looking on top of that.
I was always asked for identification when asking to buy alcohol unfortunately right up until my mid 20s. Now I am glad because at 53 I look like a man in his late 20s early 30s also with a full time beard.
So to any young man in his early 20s who can't grow a beard don't worry some day it will happen.

Great content as always! I'm 22 and I have a pretty full beard, only patchy in the area under the mouth and close to the moustache area! I have a moustache since 13, an my beard started to fill in around my 16's. I believe as i grow older it will start to fill in even more!

This was one of your best videos to date. It really made me think about my beard journey. I was around 14-15 growing what I could grow. I wanted a full beard so badly. Around the age of 22 I saw how it would grow and the addiction began. Now I have a beard that grows very similar to yours now. Super thick but mines a bit more curly. You're also right about beards not being perfect. Once mine hits that length it fills gaps and gives it that full look. Having a thick beard helps a little though. Lol Thanks for everything John. It's different for everyone, a good friend of mine had a full beard, and i mean all over the face, from age 13 while i only started seeing a little bit of slightly darker hair in the mustache and i've got an invisible soul patch at 15

im 18, my mustache is so close to connecting to the rest of my beard but I've grown to like the way it looks and embrace the patches as is. I know it'll fill in eventually because I can see vellous hairs in those areas but its so frustrating sometimes :/
The beard usually appears between the ages of 13 and 16 and its initial phase is a thin mustache, with hair from the lower lip to the chin. It usually stops developing at the end of puberty, usually full in their 20s, some men in the 21-22 age group still have a growing beard, after that age the growth slows down and stops in some.
When I was 13, right off the bat my sideburns grew down to my earlobes and I had a full peach fuzz beard

Lucky, im 15 and half and I only got some hair at the corners of upper lip, so that means I only now started growing mustache and it didnt even spread fully and its barely visible, I guess thats ok since I only hit puberty when I was 14

Interesting journey, I found some similarities in my own. Though I never did the chin strap or goatee. Growing up my father always had a mustache, though he could grow quite a beard if he wanted (so i heard). In HS around 14/15 started getting a neck beard going on, my mustache was always the weakest part of the ensemble, it didnt help that my lip hair was pretty light in contrast to my darker beard hair.
Then in college i experimented a bit more with it. Growing side burns/mutton chops. Eventually my mustache area and above the chin area started to fill in though with darker hair. Making it more appealing to grow a full beard and just trim the cheek lines.
Now in my late 20s i'm experimenting with growing it longer. How my beard is now (not in my profile pic) is probably the longest its been. I started out growing a beard in large part to be rather maintenance-free, keeping it shorter and trimming it every month or so was probably the best way to be maintenance free. But now I'm better able to manage those kinds of routines in my life so its not as much of a hassle as before.
I did fully shave once a couple years ago just to see what my face looked like again, don't know if i'll do that again for a while. Definitely prefer the look and feel of a beard, and abhor the feeling of stubble.
Was a proud wearer of a chin beard for a long time. It was an integral part of my appearance when I joined at my first workplace. Now, many years since that day, I rock a full beard.

Wow this was such a super awesome video! Awesome throwback pictures, really cool to see. My facial hair started coming in around 17, 18 in came in well, early 20s it took off. Now into my 30s it's the best it's ever been haha.

I have grown hair all over my face except my moustache area since I was 12. Finally at the age of 20 I started growing black hairs on my moustache area. I am now 22 and rocking a full beard and I constantly am sprouting fresh follicles from above my upper lip. This video gave me alot of hope tho. Cheers

Had the old dirt stache’ at 16. Didn’t shave regularly until I was in my 20’s. Still takes me a month to grow a decent goatee.
i haven't started growing my beard until i was 16/17 and i now i am 19 and i still have a goate and little bit on the sides and it's patchy on the sides missing alot of spots and i have bumfluff type of beard so i have to use beard dye hopefully it will get it's colour when i turn 20 or 21.
I’m younger than 13 and am EXTREMELY lucky to have a small mustache. Not that noticeable but it’s real hair. Not peach fuzz.
I have noticed that my moustache and beard grow very differently as a teen. The moustache is many short hairs, some darker than others. The beard is a few long, dark hairs.

Was able to grow mustache and chin hairs in high school. That’s still my strongest growing areas till this day (age 28 now). But I can grow cheek hairs out now. Hopefully I can grow a beard if I give it some time 😊

I’ve had a Peach fuzz mustache since 5th grade and in 7th grade it became thick and dark, and in 8th grade I got side burns and cheek hair and a soul patch, the last thing that grew was my chin hair in 9th grade but now I’m in 10th grade and I can grow a full beard but I still have to keep it light because they dont allow it in my school
(Btw I’m middle eastern so it’s not actually something special over here everyone is hairy, although I still grew it a little earlier than most of people I know)
Only 15 and have all the components of a beard and and blessed to have it connecting not fully but its there in the sense of I just need those couple of hairs to grow out a lot more especially near my cheeks to the tache and goate

I grew a full beard at 19. Coming back stronger now at age 21.
I'm 26, slowly my cheeks beard grow since I was 18, still patchy but I can hide it with length. My main problem now is it's seem I will never have a connected sideburns. That 3cm area between my hair and beard will never meet.

I remember my Grandfather taught me how to shave at 14 years old in March of last year I felt very insecure about it because I didn’t know if my friends at school were doing it at that age and I didn’t know what there reactions would might be.
There’s nothing to be embarrassed about with shaving bro, it’s completely normal. While it can be a hassle sometimes, at an early age it’s cool and shows you’re growing up

I started my facial hair growth near the middle.of 6th grade at about 13, but I haven't had too much progress over 4 years (17 now) but I do have pretty fast growing hair as when I shave it pretty much comes back after 3 days

I got my mustache when i was 13. And I'm 19 now, i can grew a beard but on my sideburns are patchy, I'm waiting for it to fill in.
chile I got mine when I was 12 and I'm 14, hair started to grow on my chin and the left side on my face basically the sideburn but I haven't got any hair on my right side, how do i solve this problem?
They say it will take time for us to grow a full beard and on both side of sideburns, but i do heard of minoxidil, and it's better to use biotin.

I’m 17 had to start shaving when I was 13 just shaved my beard well “beard” off that was going for about 2-3months it was about a inch and a half long but it’s not super thick yet from a week ago I say it’s about 5-7mm rn Ik mm Bc I have a electric racer that measures in mm and I’ve shaven at every length and that seems about the right area I’m really hairy tho it’s everywhere my back my chest abs shoulders upper arm and can’t wait to see what I can grow in a few more years
I'm 14 and I can grow some sideburns, and a little bit of chin hair with a thin moustache that's just passed the point of peach fuzz, but too thin and light in color to be a full moustache.
Great video. All I could really grow was side burns and moustache as early as 13 for the moustache, and then 14/15 for the sideburns. Early 20's for the rest to fill in. Still a little patchy, but I'm sure we all have something about our beards we don't like :P

I started growing a few solid chin hairs early in high school. Now i only just turned 20 ive got growth by the chin/neck area, mustach and side burns are getting thicker. Plus some solid cheek hairs. But not alot😂😂

I can grow a proper beard no patches, but my moustache is just peach fuzz, it's dark but it's not thick at all. I don't want to cut it because it'll take like a month to grow back and my beard on the chin and cheeks grow as any other normal dude. Btw I'm 17 so I'm pretty blessed.

My mustache started coming in in the 4-5th grade and now that I’m in hs I have a bit of chin hair but very little facial hair on my sideburns and my cheek. I have some hair in my left side of my face and on my right a little.

Had a full mustache at 12 my hair is black so its really noticeable witch I love my mustache and I know got facial hair growing below my ears and on side of my face for 2 years know at the age of 15
I was 11 and started to have to shave, even had surgery to remove the moles on my face around my lip nose, I would cut them when i shaved..I was a hairy kid tho at 13 hair on every knucle even on my toes. I was in military class so i had to be clean...
Me at 17 currently, I have the sides and chin fully developed with no patches and it grows out unevenly to roughly 2 cm in some areas. I have a fuzzy mustache that doesn't connect to my sides.

Never did the chin strap. First shaved in 8th grade (13 years old) then grew out just the chin to see who could grow the most in my friend group. Then I did no shave November and didnt make it but 2 weeks because of beard itch (age 16-17) but I could always grow it and was full. Didn’t really experiment with it until i got into college at 18. Ever since, I’ve always had some kind of facial hair usually a beard. And with time, the only place i dont really grow it is under my soul patch, but once it grows out, it kind of covers it.

My facial hair just started coming in at 22 y/o, i always wanted to grow a big beard but i still can not do it. It still is a bit patchy and have a big bald spot under my chin and nothing connects, eventough i just turned 23. Hopefully it will come in as i get older.
My father and uncles had beards from 19 to 20 years old. At an age of 13 to 16 they only had a mustache. But I have cousins who have had a full beard from 21 to 22 years old. I don't know anyone who took longer than that.

I'm currently 16 and haven't shaved in nearly a year and only have thin hair on the edge of my face chin and moustache. Nearly none on my cheeks except a few random decent ones. I take biotin,use beard balm, and brush and massage my face. I make sure to wash my face and clean my pores. I also work out and eat a lot of protein and grandfather, and uncles all have full beards. Any advice or reasons I can't grow anything would be great.

I’m 17 and I don’t really want a beard but I want a mustache and that’s pretty much the only part of my face that I don’t have dark hair growing
mine started at my latter half of 12 years old, and i shaved for the first time right around my 13th birthday
I shaved for the first time when I was around 16/17. But it was almost nothing, just a bit at the chin, but it was barely seeable. Now I‘m 22 and it’s almost the same. It’s just a bit harder at the chin and there is a bit growth above the mouth, but also not very recognizable. The hairs on my cheeks are even less and they are light so they are 100% invisible. It looks so stupid to grow it out and takes a lot of time just to have some seeable stubbles from a closer distance. After shaving I have no seeable beard growth. Funny how genetics work.
I knew guys in high school who could grow really thick, long and full beards by the age of 16. I’m here in my mid 20’s (26 to be exact) and still can’t grow a full beard, I still have big sparse patches.
At least you have facial hair so don’t act like that’s an accomplishment

I'm 20 can't grow a full chin hair or beard at all but I have dominant mustache, I think it's suit to me.
I wish I could grow a fuller beard. I have some facial hair but it doesn't grow in super evenly or densely. I am considering doing Minoxidil but the first time I tried it the heart racing feeling made me super anxious so I discontinued.

I'm 24 now and I am lucky to be blessed with a full grown beard since the age of 18. Started growing it out in the summer of 2014. Shaved it off for Christmas that year. After that never had a clean shave ever again and always rocked a full grown beard

At 15, I’m able to grow “thin” or “stringy” facial hair on my upper lip, chin, half of my neck (annoyingly) and sideburns. It’s never neat and I’m scared it’ll stay that way and won’t become thicker and more fuller.
Stay patient, with age it should become thicker & more full!
