That cap roll by black on turn 1 was wicked good. Lost 1 on a 3 cap.
Because caps only have a better defense than normal countries if they have at least 4 troops on them. Only then they will defend with 3 dice.

I mean, think of the true random dice rolls needed. Winning 2/3 your first roll, then winning the 3 on 1. Certainly well below the average result, but not that crazy. Blitz is just slightly heavier weighted true random at the end of the day.
Rolling even on a 10 cap is statistically less likely.
Although you had a slight hiccup with black at the beginning it turned out to be another decisive victory. Europe Prog Caps with fog & blizzards is my favourite!

To be fair to Orange, sometimes your spawn is so bad that you have to go for a pretty shitty cap. And I could have been pink's cap too that he took, but unlikely.
They swapped capitals. You can see at 0:55 that they capped on the 5 which later became magenta's capital at 17:55

honestly purple had the best cap and open. he got the 2-point central europe turn 1 with inpenetrable guard while his cap has access to 3 bonusses and can follow all the action in the middle of the board since everyone has to move past it. the only reason he died so fast was the mistake of taking france which card blocked white and got him killed
I definitely agree that you cannot card block someone early without a costly war. Some territory is just a place to trade cards with your neighbor 😄 if you wanna be good neighbors.

Pete ripping on Shim for his cap, but I'm fairly certain he just got the worst luck. White capped noob corner, 2 capitals in the spain/morocco pocket, a Germany cap, Ankara for some reason and I don't think orange had any material in South Eastern Europe to cap on

@@TheKillPeteStrategy nah Pete your being humble, I've seen games where you seem to know where every colour is by turn three , I don't even know where all my troops are by that point 🤣 , do you do that just by a process of elimination or is there something major that I'm missing?
The sooner you can figure out who's where the better. It really is mostly process of elimination.
Start with caps, then think, if 'blue' capped there, what bonus would they go for first.
Then later when you see how many troops blue gets you know three things: 1. if they took the bonus you thought, 2. Nobody else is in that bonus, 3. Where they are probably going next.
You do this for all players until you map out the board. Sometimes we miss kills because we read the board wrong. Nobody's perfect but it's a pretty good methodology for seeing through the fog.

No idea how Orange was a Grandmaster as a Grandmaster myself. That was an insanely bad capital placement and the only way to justify something like that is when the board presents you with all terrible options. That could be what happened here especially since Orange went last and probably saw no other reasonable capitals.

Caps defend with three dice instead of two so assuming you have three troops it's much better to use the defensive bonus of the caps

He could easily have lost the opening capital roll and the game would have instantly been over for him. It was a doomsday scenario.

No I hate dumb annoying distracting music. I came here for Pete and gameplay. Not zombie background repetitive music that you want to numb yourself to, background music sucks even in stores. It's one of those disgusting Modern day stuff that makes our population dumb. The music could cover his voice or what he is saying. Some content creators pick good music but it's only a few who do it successfully without taking away from the video
