Exactly 200 years ago, on March 2, 1824, a national musical genius, Bedřich Smetana, was born in the brewery of Litomyšl Castle. His second opera, The Bartered Bride, premiered on the stage of the Provisional Theatre when the composer was 42 years old.
Under the baton of Jakub Hrůša, also forty-two years old, we entered the Year of Czech Music 2024 with the overture to this comic opera. It seems that the digits 2 and 4 won't leave us alone this year. :)
