Catching Crayfish, Cod And Cold Feet. Murray Cod Fishing In May

- I chose a great looking spot to go Murray cod fishing in May, but first I had to wade across the icy cold river to get to the other side. It was a cold Murray cod fishing experience, but I was rewarded with some nice catches of Murray cod, Trout cod, Crayfish and almost a carp.

nice cod and nice cray, love how clear the water is there mate
Frog deep 😂 awesome session, great video! 😁🎣
Haha thanks mate.
Another great video. Robbie many thanks for sharing Hope you are well mate
Thanks so much Des. I am well thanks, I hope you are well too. 👍👍
Good call on the cray bite.
Haha thanks mate. There's a few starting to turn up now. 👍👍
As long as the family jewels stay warm😊
Haha they did but only just. LOL 🤣🤣
@@robbiefishing The water line on your shorts was creeping up to tiptoe level.
Hey Robbie you could put a flat plate near the base of the rod holder that you can push into the sand and it will stop the holder from being pulled over. You could make it detachable for when your fishing on a solid bank. Might just keep your feet dry and save your rod.
G'day Murray, thanks mate that's a great idea, but then there would be more things for me to carry..... Or forget and leave in the car. Haha 🤣👍
Good night out mate and I bet that water was soooo cold reward for effort tho mate cheers bring on the cray season
Thanks mate. Haha That water sure was freezing. LOL 🤣
Great video robbie, I can’t wait for the cray season to open! Keep up the good work
Thanks so much mate. 👍👍
Great mix in the catch, nice to watch mate.
Thanks so much mate. 👍👍
Well done robbie, awesome session mate love your videos
Thanks so much mate. ⛪👍

On fire ❤
Good one mate 👍👍👍👍👍 thanks for braving the cold to bring us entertaining videos 👍👍👍👍 I was freezing here today it got to 21 🤪
Haha thanks Cam. It was -3 here this morning. LOL 😂😂
Well done Robbie. Those Trout Cod look different, we don't have those in SA.
Thanks mate. They're a cool species. They were almost extinct at one stage.
great vid wish i had crayfish in my area
Thanks mate. They're certainly awesome creatures.
Love the stuff Robbie, keep it up, wish I could catch fish like u do
Keep up the great work and tight lines bro
Thanks so much bro. I hope you're enjoying your trip and catching plenty of fish.
@@robbiefishing loving the trip, but in the desert atm (broken hill) so no fish for me, unless I flick for kangaroo and camels? 🤷♂️😂😂
@@Tobysfishingandtravelling haha Are there wild Camels around Broken Hill? I didn't realise that. I thought they were further north in the red centre.
@@robbiefishing nah i don’t think they are wild but there’s heaps of camel farms, camels don’t need much water and they don’t like the green grass so the live on desert Tucker, but there is always emu and kangas for me to fish for 😂 atleast they would put up a good fight 😂😂
G’day Robbie, that’s nice looking water, mate 👍🏼. Great video as usual, well done. That water looks freezing, lol, better you than me, but fish to go ol mate and that beautiful Cod 👍🏼. That was very exciting with everything going all over the place, 😂. That was a beautiful Cray too.
Haha thanks Wayne. My heart sank when I realised that I had forgotten my cheese and had to walk back across. LOL 😂
Another adventure in Robbie's world, well done.
Be very careful with the saying worm, or worm's, and I'm happy that you didn't fall in the drink 😮😮😮😮
Thanks so much Gary. 👍👍
Talk about a smorgasbord. What a great arvo fishing.
Thanks Bruce. 👍👍
Top stuff love the slowmo of that carp
Great to see that was a near lost rod experience
I think that the case with all rod holders I haven’t come across one that any different in the sand
Although I I’ve seen a mate years ago who had a welded piece of chain on the upright and a cable connected via a spring hook to a peg in the ground about 1.5 meters behind the rod holder
Thanks Pete. That's taking fishing rod security to the next level isn't it. Haha
Hello rob
Mate I have a problem with cheese as a bait....I eat more than the fish do 😁
And did I hear you correctly the water at -98 🤔 lol
Nice cod rob and nice to see crayfish..
Cheers mate enjoy your day..
😎🏴🎣
Thanks Mike. Haha -98 give or take a little bit. Haha 🤣🤣
I hope you're having a great day mate.
Hahaha. Ya mad ya bugga.
It is most certainly going to be a good cray season this year. My Dad and I caught 5 between us this morning on worms and chicken ranging from about 6.5 to 10.5 cm carapace length.
Thanks mate, I have caught a few this week myself. The signs are good.
You bet I could feel that cold, just returned from a dawn beach fishing session in shorts and 1 degree temperature 🥶🥶🥶
WOW That's keen. 1 degree at the beach would be very cold I reckon. Even worse in shorts. LOL
@@robbiefishing Keen but maybe a little stupid? The water was actually warm though and the catch made up for it!
Your as game as me doing this just for a great fishing spot. Now that was well worth it though. I done the same thing 6am this morning just to go trout fishing -3 in Mansfield haha. Bet your getting pretty excited for cray season not long now
Haha wow now that's keen mate. I didn't want to get out of bed today. LOL 😂😂
Stupid what we do for a couple of fish, lol. How's the trout fishing down your way, Chris? Hope you are getting a few with that effort!
@@AndrewFishman the trout fishing is been really great but it's only just picked up now been a bit and miss. 3 weeks ago spent a week camping caught 132 trout kept one. 2 weeks after that spent a whole day trout fishing and caught 3. Sunday morning walked the river for 4ks and caught 11 and lost count how many I lost.
@@chriscoyne4827 Sounds like a lot of fun! Best of luck with the rest of the season. I am still looking for a brown.
What a good video! What nets do you use when Yabbying and what size hooks to you use for cod? Keep it up!
Thanks mate. When the season opens I use normal drop nets. Check out my Crayfishing playlist and you will see them. 👍👍
When the caption came up, ( see this log ) I thought you were going ass over head in the drink. I would of lost it as the water was freezing 🤣. Another great video mate 👍
Haha thanks mate. 👍👍
Like and share everyone. This legend never gets cold. We done legend 🙌
Haha thanks so much mate. The legend was on the phone during the video. 664 over. 👍👍
Good stuff robbie that spot is where dad fell put of his kayak and lost his favourite rod😂
Thanks mate. LOL Poor guy. I bet he was heartbroken and you probably stood there laughing at him. Haha 😂😂😂
@@robbiefishing You know YOU would have just laughed, yourself, mate. And hoped that the gopro had captured the moment in all its glory! You know it.
Brrrrrrrrrrrr. Great time
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Could you please show us how you tie your hook and set your sinker up Robbie, cheers🤙love the vids
Thanks so much mate. I definitely need to film more rigging videos. Thanks for your great suggestion.
What a day robbie, here where I live we can't catch trout cod and crayfish
Thanks mate. I'm so lucky to live where I do.
Always nice to see some trout cod in the system given how close they came to extinction and a 50cm murray cod is a respectable fish. He nearly took half your gear
Sandy bank like that might also have some freshwater mussels in there too, I'd leave it to someone else to go digging around with their toes in the 9C water
Haha thanks mate, so would I. That was a little bit chilly. LOL 🤣🤣
😂 you would forget your head if it wasnt screwed on 😂 bit jealous of the cod and catching cray on a hook must not have many around lol. not jealous of the cold feet 😂 love the slow mow 😂 glad to see your still loveing life. I hope you and the family are doing well mate. take care Robbie xo 😊💜🍻
Hey Aussie Chick, thank you so much for dropping in. We are well thank you, I hope all is well with you too.
You missed your calling Robbie, you would have made a great Stand Up Comedian or a Karaoke Host! 😂🤣😂
Hahahaha 🤣🤣
Thanks for your feet's cool sacrifice Mate.😁
I appreciate it....
Hahaha 🤣🤣 I would have been so bad if I didn't have to go back and get half of my gear. LOL 😂😂
Great video, reckon next time your in soft sand with that rod holder try put it in on an angle toward you. could help when you catch your next good cod.. Hopefully
Thanks mate, that is a great idea. 👍👍
Awesome session considering the time of year. You needed some knee high seal skin socks mate.
Haha thanks mate, I would love some. Seal skin leggings. LOL 😅😅
Hey Robbie, just wondering if there’s a rod you’d recommend that is good for bait and lure fishing in lakes and rivers. Cheers!
Hi mate, you might be best to pop into your local tackle store and ask them. Because I don't work in a tackle store I just don't know what is on the shelves these days sorry. 👍👍
Awesome session bro... We're is ferryl...?
Thanks bro. She wasn't with me that evening.
She's been spending a lot of time at the speedway instead of fishing. LOL
Well done Robbie. Fisherman don't like wet feet and cold water.
Thanks mate. Haha I'm OK with it in small doses. LOL 😂😂
I found a cray underneath a log on the low banks of murray in howlong today. only a little fella but it was cool
WOW What a cool find, well done.
hey Robbie, great video, the fishings been really slow recently, I recommend going to the reservoir in merrigum and there's 2 lakes there, one small one, one big one, the big one has been stocked with big Murray cod from another water system, and the best bait to use there is chicken and you just drop your bait straight down at a pontoon and I got my first metery there, and a lot of other people have got meteries there, if you can go there it'd make a great video, and the smaller lake has big yellowbelly but has weed everywhere and is almost impossible to fish, but it might be boring though, it's a pretty all or nothing spot
Thanks so much mate, I must get there some day. 👍👍
@@robbiefishingno worries thanks for the reply, have you heard of the spot im talking about before?
@@robbiefishing also dont expect a metery on your first time there, it took me about 3 times, but the first time I took someones advice and just dropped chicken down at the pontoon I got a metery
@@nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn361 Metery on 3rd trip is excellent fishing. I love chicken. Got a few vids using it in both fresh and salt for all sorts of fish. For weed bed goldens, float a yabby in the patches between the weeds or above the weeds. Chicken, worms, shrimp or soft plastics on a float will all work well too. Or rig a plastic on a worm or circle hook and fish it with no weight, or a very small running sinker. Rig so the point is buried in the back of the lure so it becomes more weed resistant. I like weed beds, they mean big, fat fish. But they can be tough to fish. And getting a bite is just half the fun, then you have to land the fish that is pretty determined to head straight down into the weed bed and bury you in green stuff. Love it!
@@AndrewFishman yeah ay metery on 3rd trip is good also yeah chicken is good as for baitt
Robbie is there a different between fresh water cray and salt water cray when it comes to taste?
Hi Catherine, I think they all taste a little bit different to each other. I prefer yabbies over all of the others. Haha Saltwater prawns are nicer than Murray crayfish in my opinion, but yabbies are the best.
I’ve never tried yabbies or fresh water crays or actually the Murray cod or trout cod
Yes another video been trying to get in contact with u Robbie had a few questions if that was okay on indta or something
Thanks mate. 🙏 The best way to message me is on Patreon. 👍
@@robbiefishingthx for that talk soon
You have to go back at the start next month with the nets 😂😂😂
Haha absolutely I do, but I probably won't. LOL It will be even colder then. Haha
Hey Robbie I’ve found another private dam that I got permission to fish and I’ve been catching both big catfish and decent Redfin. Oddly enough the Redfin have been there for years and years and the catfish haven’t been there in as long but they still survived any idea how so many survived? Thanks
Catfish are very much survivors. They and our predatory natives lived together for millions of years, the redfin cannot teach them anything. Catfish have a very sharp, and slightly venomous, spine on their pectoral fin and dorsal spine. This makes them pretty unpalatable to many fish, as they run the risk of dying themselves. It is not uncommon on inland rivers to fins a large yebbly or even the odd cod that has a large tandanus stuck in its throat. The catfish, themselves, are very effective and efficient predators and will be eating any young reddies they can wrap their whiskery lips around. When not eating redfin, yabbies are a smorgasbord.
That sounds awesome mate. I reckon Andy has hit the nail on the head.
Also, if the catfish were a little larger when stocked the redfin may not have been able to eat them.
to Robbie Fishing Thanks That im telling Dad the good news
G'day Dan, I hope you've had a great weekend mate.

Haha I've got colour haven't heard that saying for years
Hahaha Jeff, I don't think I've ever heard it in the freshwater. LOL 😂😂
@@robbiefishing yeah that was so funny when you said it was a big saying on the CB eg any colour yet instead of have you caught anything haha
Just be glad the frog didn't say too deep too deep
Hahaha
Waders .
Hey Robbie why don't you move ur rods back on ur rod holder instead of having so much rod sticking over the front cause if u move ur rods back abit u wont have ur rods pulled in to the water
Hi mate, I like to have them high where possible to detect nibbles easier. I lay them low when it is windy.
Come to bluerock dam ill take u out on the bass
😂you will probably do it again mate
Haha most likely. LOL 😂😂
I have never seen that kind of crayfish.
When I read cold feet I thought you were scared of doing something, it was literally cold fish.
Haha sorry to mislead you, that was not my intention. This is a Spiny Murray Crayfish.
@@robbiefishing Thank you.
Bite the bullet Robbie and get yourself some waders and wading boots, you’ll never look back.
Thigh waders maybe, but never chest waders. LOL 🤣
@@robbiefishing
Thigh waders are fine, imagine how much easier, and warmer it would have been
for that video. The only problem I see is, the first video you do after getting them
I would expect to hear, “oh no, I’ve left the waders in the car,” or, “oh no, I’ve left the
wading boots at home!”😂
@xaj1543 hahaha that would 100% happen. LOL 😅😅
Awww Robbie that’s lame 😅xx
Hahaha
😂😅❤
LOL! I'll pass!
Haha Last night I was fishing and a young fella came and jumped into the water and swam for a lure right next to where I was fishing. LOL I couldn't believe my eyes. Madness!!
@@robbiefishing TOO bloody cold for me!
@@Urbanfisho Wuss. I went for a swim in a trout stream yesterday 🤣 3 degrees air temp, sleeting and windy. Come on mate, ya gotta toughen up a bit!

He got wet, not incontinent 😆😆
Sweet dreams are made of cheese. Who am I to dis a Brie

Fishing the world and the 7 seven seas, everybody is looking at Robbie.
I remember going fishing with Steve Starling as a kid and he made that same “Knee-Deep” joke. Still funny 30 years later
Hahaha It was Rex Hunt that taught me that joke over 30 years ago. LOL That's probably where Starlo got it from. 😂😂
Sheesh, robbie, I haven't laughed so much during your fishing and wading in the cold water stream.
You made my Sunday afternoon..
You are the man!
