- This animatic took me a year to finish so sorry for the drastic style changes.
STORY (spoilers for the video): A dazed and bloody Zim runs to Dib’s house for refuge after committing a heinous act. Once there, Zim reveals to Dib that he did what he did for the human, leaving Dib disillusioned and afraid. Though, Dib soon realizes that what Zim had done was far scarier than what he initially suspected.
Knowing that he was under the influence of the Pak and could not reprogram it to allow him to truly be free of the Irken empire, Zim took off his pak. For good. He destroyed the wires that would usually allow it to fit back in place. In doing so, he knew he’d only have a few precious hours left to live (as the Pak helped keep Zim alive) so he’d come to Dib to enjoy his final moments free of the Irken empire’s influence. Free to just be himself with Dib for the first and last time.
ZADF/ZADR EXPLANATION: I enjoy making animatics where the pair are somewhat soulmates, not necessarily in a romantic sense. I love depicting them having this close, undefined and unspoken bond. If you want the bond to be platonic, go ahead! If you want that bond to be romantic, that’s fine too! I always draw Dib and Zim to be around the same age because I believe them to be. They’re probably 17-18 in this animatic specifically.

Dib quickly reprogramed the PAK so he could be free and alive. Dib puts the PAK on zim and he is alive. Dib explained what happened and they hug. Zim I happy that his BEST FRIEND helped him live and they live together forever as BEST FRIENDS. The end!
