Those of you who don't know. Sabine Meyer was the first woman ever allowed to perform as a member of the Berlin philharmonic. Not only is she bringing it she is a trailblazer😊
This Weber's concert was the first public solo performance of my brother who passed away 8 years ago at the age of 48. I recorded him at our city concert hall with a Sony tc-153sd stereo 7 tape recorder, I was just a teenager and my brother few years older than me. Mrs. Meyer is superbe: thank you for bringing me back to this memory with your amazing performance and the heavenly sound of your clarinet.
Sabine's performance is stunning - not one "off" note, superb staccato, dynamics (despite some negative comments to the contrary which are NOT true), tempo management, and simply lively & wonderful to listen to. Her management of the basset clarinet low notes is without a problem; and recording of these low notes actually manages them to be heard by the listener. And the unique slow mov'nt cadenza building on the Mozart quintet cadenza & extending it tastefully into the low basset range - WOW! Sabine makes the clarinet part sound light and easy, as it should. Yes, it is NOT the hardest technique concerto to perform (unless played on an early basset clarinet reconstruction as I performed it in 1990) but overall challenging in combining tastefully and cleanly technique & musicality which she has done here. Certainly one of the TOP performances that have been recorded! BRAVO!
Damn! I'm playing the first movement for solo and ensemble and I'm already shitting my pants with how hard it is, and the arrangement I'm using doesn't even have the giant cadenza in the middle, plus it's missing a whole lot of the fiddly bits. In conclusion, Sabine is really wicked talented.

Weber and Beethoven were alive during the same time period of early romantic era. They competed with each other in music and Weber at one point criticized Beethoven's 7th symphony. So yes. Thats why Weber sounds early-romantic style like.
Superb playing, but her tone throughout is spellbinding and lifts the entire piece to a different level. It would be niice to have the orchestra credited as well.
Wonderfully played - I am totally in awe. So nice to hear the spirited interpretation. I'd love to hear you perform in person at a live concert. Your sound and articulation are truly exceptional.
+Lauren Jones no I think she's holding it from (I don't know what's the english word for) a device for sustining it with the thumb (present in all clarinets). if you observe it deeply you'll see that her thumb and second finger are holding something... I'm sorry, but my english is too weak for this - I wish I explained myself all the same
+QuickScopersUnknown It is a Germain Clarinet. Thay are built with a different system of keys and barrels (Oehler). You are used to know French Clarinets which are built with Boehm. :)) (I'm a clarinetist)
Weber clarinet concerti sound better on a Wurlitzer clarinet. Not for jazz, but that sweet, pure sound is so good for Weber solos. Check out Karl Leister also, for example.
It could be you're not that big on the clarinets voice. It's not my favorite, yet you're listening to who I believe is the best player on that instrument and if you close your eyes this piece might just knock you out.
I think this is a recording with the Dresden Staatskapelle and conducted by Herbert Blomstedt. It is very annoying that people do not give information like this. Sabine is not completely alone? Or ithis is the most miracelous clarinette in the world ... ;-)
Music "Klarinettenkonzerte Nr.1op.73 & Nr.2 op.74 · Concertino op.26, Konzert für Klarinette und Orchester Nr.1 f-moll op.73: II. Adagio ma non troppo" by Sabine Meyer/Staatskapelle Dresden/Herbert
No, it is actually played by Chuck Norris and he can produce all the sounds of all the other instruments on it too. Lol!!! Yes, I agree, it is irritating that they don't supply that info.
Hey, I'm playing this as a sophomore in high school. I'm trying to win state (Washington state Music Educator's Association), so if any clarinetists out there have some tips on this piece - or the clarinet in general - that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Practice the piece in sections. The piece in its entirety will be very easy especially if you practice a lot of things like arpeggios and scales everyday as a vore routine. Being used to playing all over the range of the clarinet and playing all highest partials of scales and arpeggios will make your practicing experience very easy and you will understand the piece faster, exponentially. If you played Weber's Concertino, then this piece should be strikingly familiar and you will have a head start in understanding Weber's way with this piece.

I'd love this piece so much, I played it for a judge in my freshman year of highschool and got a superior I was so happy. Great sabine
Carl Maria von Weber ~ what a wonderful composer! Sabine Meyer not far behind with her superb interpretation. Thank you for the listening pleasure!
This woman has endured years of hard work and as you can see, it has payed off perfectly
Sabine, you just brought C.M.Weber back to life !

Budimir Zvolanek This concerto isn’t basset clarinet.
Mozart concerto? Not what we have here.
@@cloudymccloud00 UR right. My comment is for Sabine's Mozart concerto on basset clarinet. Something got messed up not by my volition, sorry!
Amazing... my favorite rendition of this piece. I absolutely love how she ends it at 20:50
a tear of dyonisos created this phenomale human being
walk to the earth with all my peacfully respect 🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎵
Just... How does she do it!? That piece is so demanding and she nails it to every last note! Bravo!
Skilled playing. Sabine is excellent
Weber certainly was a master at drama in music!
Indeed. He inspired Richard Wagner very strongly.
Weber was best known for his operas so it’s not surprising
Opera for the clarinet!
Juste magnifique ! En particulier le 3ème mouvement!!
Excelencia🖌️
Lo estoy disfrutando.
Gracias.
Splendida SABINE.
Wonderfull Sabine!!
Enjoyed a lot. Talented Sabine,
She plays a Wurlitzer clarinet, which uses the Oehler (German) fingering system.
Thank you, Kaleb, for the insightful inside info.
Потрясающее исполнение!!!

Yiss hereiam I am understanding your pain right now.
Yiss hereiam the first movement is all about starting to practice slowly, getting insane, and be thrown into a mental asylum
If you think this is hard, go check out the Nielsen concerto. This piece is a walk in the park in comparison.
Yiss hereiam me too
How does your arrangement not have the cadenza it’s standard in every arrangement I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen at least 5 different arrangements.
An amazing clarinet player!
Absolutely fantastic tone .technick and interpretation. Imposssible to play Weber concert better!!
came back today, to ... utterly .... enjoy again !!!
Fantástico, Sabine Meyer genial. Gracias.

The thing about the sound of Meyer and Leister is that it is compact, in a beautiful way. American sound, if it is bad, tends to spread.
Fabuloso por lo bien dicho y su limpieza
Good points folks. I would consider Sabine the best we have in this generation.
The intro of this concerto really has Beethoven-quality.
It's that beautiful deep bass. Laid all down by Beethoven's teacher Haydn.
Weber and Beethoven were alive during the same time period of early romantic era. They competed with each other in music and Weber at one point criticized Beethoven's 7th symphony. So yes. Thats why Weber sounds early-romantic style like.
Idk about that Beethoven stuff but I agree it's an amazing intro. And very fun to play this concerto.
It has Weber-quality.
Amazing!!!
sabine is perfect!!!

Best recording ever!
wonderful.... absolutely fantastic... wonderful tone and amazing technique.... a beautiful piece + talent=perfect.

Really good, very impressive !
Phenomenal performance
is that picture like photoshopped with a clarinet in her hand

+emilianoturazzi she's holding it by the thumb rest
***** :) thank you ... I learned a new english word
+emilianoturazzi no problem
No, that's her actual hand, she is in part a clarinete, that's why she plays so well.
14:53 was crazy

Does this explain that she can hold it this way? It looks so strange, like if there was a handle!
I have to play this piece for my orchestra.

Is it weird that I like the orchestra part better than the clarinet part?
It could be you're not that big on the clarinets voice. It's not my favorite, yet you're listening to who I believe is the best player on that instrument and if you close your eyes this piece might just knock you out.
Has Sabine's clarinet low Eb on the bell?
Paul Martin Nope, that's a Wurlitzer. It uses the German system so the keywork is different from what you'd be used to.
Thank you Cameron. I've since observed many in use in German orchestras on youtube.
This is also the reason for the very different German sound and intonation.

I’m trying to do the first movement for solo and ensemble and I’m freaking out. Anyone have any tips?
Omar you have to practice more. Thats the only tip always helping

What kind of clarinet is that in the picture? It has holes where the holes wouldn't normally be.
Team Kooshball it’s a German clarinet so it’s different from the French clarinet that you’re used to. The keys and fingerings ar different

+asdisasdisasdis She's holding the clarinet in a really strange way... So yes, I think it was photoshopped.
some clarinets have a really big thing for the right thumb
all clarinets have thing on back for right thumb so you can hold it
excactly! some just have a really big one so it would be easier
