Of course there are going to be times an entire orchestra is louder than a single flute. Her dynamics are just right, she crushes this piece.....after all there she is performing as a soloist with an orchestra while most of the you tube critics here are what...sitting behind the computer.....her finger positions are just exceptional. I love how she accomplishes these very difficult passages with minimal movement, she does not give into the “showy” fingering a lot of flautists employ. She gets the job done in the most efficient manner possible. I think she has a great career ahead of her. A great performance, and as a flutist I really enjoyed it.
haha jokes on you im tryna learn the piece too
@@ihavegcc472 she's not a supergood flutist thought she is good, but not the best:( :(
@@allons-y933 Yes but that's mostly not the 'fault' of the soloist. It's just as much a fault of the orchestra (look at the size of it and the number of string players!!) - and the composer! Chaminade has written low notes, which cannot carry as well as high ones. (It's fine in the piano version) Also most of the bits where you can't hear her over the orchestra are where the part is just doubling the violins or the other orchestral instruments, so it doesn't really matter.
Preacchhhhh!!!! I’m learning this piece and it’s incredibly hard in some places so mad props to her🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I think its also just the way it's mic'd to be honest. I think live it didn't sound like that
My flute teacher assigned this to me as a "summer project" so that sums up my summer😬
Ur lucky to even have one, try to be more appreciative... I can't afford one. But I really love this piece.
This is my summer project too
My flute teacher assigned this to me, too. But I don't have to do it for summer
That’s why they put the sum in summer.
same 😅
A wonderful performance. Her notes flowed like liquid gold. One can forget how much hard work and dedication, lie behind this level of skill. The long hours of practice ...
Yeah ! Like liquid gold, but on a silver flute.
This video went up 30k views after audition season lol
Johnny Poon as do most classical performances 😬
Don't know why but this piece brings me to tears. Such beautiful melody.
It is the passion !
I agree. To me, it brings forth almost all of the flute's capabilities and also pitfalls. It represents very well the best potential of the instrument. It's a showpiece!
i mean the song is inspired by rejection
C'est la magie qui opère.
Then theres me... a metalhead guitarist. I'm going into music as my major... as (drumroll please) a classical flutist. I've been playing for nine years and any time I start to think about it I cant help but laugh. I dress and look like metal.. and people ask what I play and I'm just there like 😐 classical flute. Beautiful piece. Just wanted to share that to those in the comments while yall enjoy her beautiful playing. Just wow.
😄😄😊 love that for you.
(and for the sake of flute playing in general! so much pigeonholing with classical concert flute :/)
Lmfao that’s hilarious
I’m sure you’ll do good though!
Who gives a fuck about u lmao 💀💀😭😭
And remember that she doesn't have any sheet music in front of her. I-
it''s amazing how someone can remember so much music! it's a skill in itself
@@rebeccatriggs4182 after you've practiced it for the 100+ time youd be surprised how much is just muscle memory. Still shes a professional and it is still amazing to witness.
Did y’all really expect her to not get “drowned out” by AN ENTIRE FRICKING ORCHESTRA BEHIND ONE FLAUTIST? It’s a whole orchestra and one flute. I believe that was intended by the composer.
That wasn't intended by the composer, it was written for flute and piano first, then arranged
Do your research!!!
@@sarahkraus8247 Very true!
Composer weighing in here - I cannot speak for this piece, but composers are incredibly aware of when a soloist will be drowned out (by either a piano or an orchestra). There are several reasons a composer may want to do this:
1. to make the emotion or inertia of the piece overflow in exuberance that it takes over in a big swell
2. to allow the soloist to be the background/supporting part so that the orchestra or pianist can have a moment in the spotlight. Either the soloist can stop playing (rests) or they can play an accompaniment part.
I really dislike it (most often heard in studio recordings) when the soloist is always the loud part, and the piano or orchestra are really quiet all the time - I'm thinking of examples where the piano accompanist is bashing something fortissimo out, but the recording engineer has pulled the fader down to make the soloist always sit on top - it completely ruins the whole point of that section of the piece for the composer. Obviously this is a live recording, not a studio recording, but I thought I'd mention this as an example so you can see how frustrating it would be for a composer to have their concepts completely overruled by the desire to have the soloist forever the hero 100% of the time.
There is more than one flautists
This is an example of excellent ensemble playing. Ms Miller's ability to shape phrases and blend with the orchestra when the music requires it) is refreshing, something that many soloists cannot bring themselves to do. Her intonation is impeccable, and she has more than enough presence to project her sound all the way to the back of the hall without being bombastic. Brava!
omg her tone is amazing! Vibrato on point as well! I wish I had her technical ability and tone when I was "youth". 100/10 amazing performance! she makes it seem so effortlessly and to hit those high notes as smooth and angelic as she did is flat out amazing! I hope she continued in the music world!
Get yourself a person that looks at you the way the oboe player looks at her when she walks on
I’m lovin’ it 😍
Right

Ugh a queen. We stan
This must be the youth orchestra, they all look like kids. And they play excellently well. Kudos to the flute player. Such a difficult piece and marvellously played. Masterfully directed by the master Ben Zander. Superb!
If you listen close enough, you can hear at 0:24 you can hear that when the conductor says "crashed the wedding" there is a literal crash in the background.
Jessie Wang lol 😂
Woooow LOL that's so crazy! I put my phone to hear to hear it🤣😂
Found the perfect soundtrack for my day! Sharing this with my friends for good vibes.😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘
Sounded like it'd be in the soundtrack to a Disney 50s movie, absolutely loved it really paints a picture in your head
I love how the composer crashed the wedding, handed out the sheet music to the orchestra, and then started slaying
Such a joy to see this kind of jubilation among those who love the flute and orchestra. Watching this makes me hopeful about the future. This kind of piece is highly nuanced, concentrated, and exhausting to play. (There's almost nowhere for the flute to hide!) Major Kudos to the soloist.
What a performance! Special props to the rest of the band for making it epic!
Coming out of retirement to play my flute after 18 years. Beautiful!
I’ve never idolized someone like her I’ve been playing flute for a while now and I’ve always been first chair but some day I wanna be just like this amazing woman right here
OMG she is so good. I have to play this solo for All district band next year... AAHHHHH!
NAME OF THE MUSIC PIECE
@Mialee Smith It´s been 3 years since then, I am curious of how it went.
So beautiful. Bravo Hayley Miller. Bravo! Even with the power of a full orchestra behind you, you still soared.
I came for the piece and stayed for her. Wow, she's as beautiful as the music.
What's all this nonsense in the comments about her sound not being large enough and getting swamped by orchestra? I can't hear any evidence of this, and her technical prowess and tone seem to me exemplary.
I guess people aren't used to the tutti sections because they are not in the piano version?
Even though flutes are the quietest she make her really loud she she is heard
@@rtc_twisted7952 yeah I can't mind make my louder
@@rtc_twisted7952 yes

Beautiful!!
Precioso! Impecable y excelente solfeo... Esta obra me parece como un suspiro al inicio y la intensidad a la que llega sin caer en el virtuosismo obsoleto hizo una interpretación formidable.
Absolutely incredible 🎶🎶🎶 👏
I love the expression on her face when she’s done cuz she knows she slayed
I was very impressed with the neat expression and willpower. And the smile after the performance was a proof that the musician had something essential. Thank you! (#^.^#)

So y'all I'm only a sophomore and my band director just gave me this piece for a NYSSMA solo. If i can play it half as good as her I'll be happy😂 #fluteforlife
Cassidy Evans Omg NYSSMA solos are the death of me 😂
ME TOO OMG IM DOING IT THIS YEAR (11th grade), trying to get into wind ensemble 😬😬
oof, this sophomore did it in my school and got into state solo-ensemble with it. shes a legend ugh. striving to be like her oof. currently working on this song on my own and am gonna continue over the summer to get it by solo-ensemble. want to get it down by my sophomore year.
Erin The Flutist its a pretty good level 6, im sure you could do it! ive had it for a little over 8 months and the hardest part is the beginning/end where it repeats in my opinion lol. just training the fingers to go fast. youll do amazing!!
Omg, Nyssma is the most stressful thing ever
This was my video for my assignment of Musical hero. I have to present it today in 4th block
