How to uninstall Microsoft Edge (Chromium) using Command Prompt
If the option to uninstall Microsoft Edge isn't available in Settings, because you received the new browser through Windows Update, you'll need to use Command Prompt to remove it.
To get rid of the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge, use these steps:
1. Open Start.
2. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
3. Type the following path to access the Installer folder and press Enter:
cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\8*\Installer
Quick note: On Windows 11or 10, the "Installer" folder resides inside another folder named after the version number of the browser currently installed on your device; as a result, the name may change as new updates roll out. So, in the path, we're using the number "8" with a wildcard "*" to access the folder no matter the 8x.x.xxx.xx version you have installed. However, once the browser reaches version 9x.x.xxx.x, you'll need to update the path to 9 with the wildcard.
4. Type the following command to remove Microsoft Edge and press Enter:
setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall

You have saved me countless hours. My PC gets stuck in a loop opening tens of microsoft edge windows and I have found no-one with a similar issue. This is the only thing that has helped.

Great tutorial. But I tried this today on my Windows 11, May 18, 2023. Sadly, it didn't work. Does this mean they've caught up with this technique and have launched countermeasure codes? Is there a way to still make this work?

im on version 100.0.1185.39 and this cmd command is not working. it will give the prompt to uninstall and i click yes but the file folder still exists. any help would be great
Same thing happened to me, I just deleted everything in the Install file. Edge is finally gone, for now at least.

@@OakBlox i tried this but it's not deleting the app whenever i clicked uninstall, i even put a 0 value to NoRepair
never seen such a clear and complete tutorial. it left no space for guessing or any confusion. i walked step by step with him and everything he said showed up in my windows 10 and i got rid of the uninvited Edge. thank you

Didn't work for me either. Done it twice now and Edge still keeps comeing up. Even the "setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall" comes up with "setup.exe is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I just did everything that you said. I'm going to hope and pray that it works. The Microsoft Edge **** was literally driving me crazy and I tried everything on the Internet to no avail. Installer didn't remove itself for me. New version of Edge doesn't seem to delete the setup.exe. Or maybe there is another service I have turned off that is preventing the uninstall? any ideas?
Same here. They keep watching how we try and uninstall and block the uninstall. It is disgusting that they don't let us get it off our computer easily. It is like spam too. It was opened even after waking up my computer without me even clicking it. I changed the homepage and it put it back from google to it's own page. I can't even set a new tab to open in my own page, I have to navigate away from it some other way. I don't use widgets but they claim it is integral. BS

they may have released a patch or something to stop this, just tried it and didnt work, gets to the first do you want this app to make changes, click yes then nothing happens.

Most of these videos to get rid of MS Edge don't work. I just used Task Manager. Click on Startup Tab and disable. It never boots anymore when your PC starts up.
brilliant! I just changed the settings now. Let's hope that in those two months since you wrote this they didn't find a way to automatically change that back during a reboot. If you tell us how to get away from them they will read it and thwart us. Thanks alot whether it works for me or not...going to restart my computer now.

Nice video but i question ..you write do not update edge...chrom..that cuz you are use this browser but i use firefox so shall i just change chrom to firefox ?
this doesn't work for me and I have no idea why. My syntax is correct as Microsoft requests to make the changes... except nothing actually happens
Mine comes back not recognized . I had this uninstalled for a whole year and blocked updates from installing it. Now 1/12/22 my system updated and it’s back. Please any other ideas? I double checked the prompt twice.

Thanks -- Uninstall Edge worked for me ... However when opening links from different apps like Thunderbird email - they do not open in Brave Browser .. they only open in Edge (before uninstall) or Firefox based browsers .. so I don't know why they do not open in Brave even though Brave is my default browser ... Hope there is a solution for this

I followed this tutorial to the last letter. But sadly, the "setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall" doesn't do anything.
No error feedback, no success feedback. Didn't do anything. Edge is still here.

Hello. I did exactly what you say here, [in windows 10], but it doesn't work. Nothing moves, nothing is uninstalled. So it doesn't work

Ran it on powershell, It's saying "The term 'X86' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again." help.

I just deleted the whole Microsoft folder and it works perfectly now. Havent had a problem for a long time. Everytine edge gets updated and comes back...i just delete it again. Thats all
